I think with amateurs everything will be much more unpredictable and therefore definitely more interesting. I am definitely in favor of having amateurs :)

So I posed this question because after watching season 1 there was a lot of chatter around season 2 and it seemed quite split on who to invite for the next iteration.

IMO amateurs shouldn't be invited to this - at least not yet. Part of the allure of Game of Gold was the behind the scenes commentary and dynamics that the pros pulled back the curtain on and adding amateurs - unknowns really - to that mix might greatly affect the "story" and push focus back to the game only which doesn't differentiate it from other shows.

In my opinion it would be good, especially for players like me who are a beginner looking to become an amateur, it would be cool to see what would happen!

NO i don't really want to see any amateurs playing in the second season. I've actually skipped all hands with amateurs in Poker After Dark and such tv shows that i've watched on youtube. Well it's because when I'm watching hands played by pro players im trying to think the way they think about the hand so I can learn something new. Amateurs can't teach me much. So that's it.

I just finished watching Season 1... It's such a cool concept. I definitely wish there's a season 2.
If they want amateurs, sign me up !

If the amateurs know what they're doing and are serious players, then by all means they should get a shot!
players should be selected due to there skills as a poker player, not how much money theyve made playong poker. It would be a great opportunity for the amateurs to step there game up, and better there skills, and to break into the world of professional poker

A wise man can learn something from the dumbest of people. Just because they are an amateur doesn't mean you can't learn from them.

The difference between an amateur and a professional is that an amateur spends his time on several different things that interest him, while a professional spends most of his time on one thing. When they meet on the same thing, the difference between them disappears. For an amateur, everything he does is a hobby, while for a professional it is a profession. A hobby is loved, but a profession is not.

IMO putting amateurs in the game with professionals would be like putting a street fighter in the ring with a golden glove fighter we already know the out come so what would be the point of watching. So i'm going to say NO!!! Lets leave a good thing alone just my opinion.

I don't think I'd want to watch amateurs play. I already see amateur play every day in pokerstars freerolls. :ROFLMAO: What's really valuable for me is learning from professional players. Watching their unconventional moves, enjoying their bluffs and watching how they react to losing chips.

Amateurs would be great. Especially if they can develop their backstory. Maybe even create another Moneymaker effect?

I havent watched battle of gold season 1, but i know that there are only 16 players who fight for the title. So for me it wouldn´t be a great decision that 4 amateurs playing in this battle because i think this should be an exclusive tournament where the best selection of poker pro´s are showing their skills and i dont think it is the same tournament if 25% of players are "unknown" amateurs - if it would be only one amatuer who is qualified i would agree but 4 amateurs is a bit too much.

i prefer to see well respected pros in action. i want to learn by watching strong players, and see how they play their hands and in what positions.like others have mentioned a famous athlete, streamer,or someone in the chess or backgammon world might be interesting, but i sure don't want to watch Joe or Betsy Nobody.

Why not? everyone must be able to access tournaments even if they are amateurs!if they lose they will learn something: study if they want!

Do not add amateurs at this point in time. I think it is great to see pro on pro battles. They can add amateurs after 3 seasons.

No I liked a lot the first season, seeing the way this players think is precious. An amateur will only follow and do what the pro players say. They don't know better and usually in this format an amateur doesn't stand a chance, he has to be really lucky to finish 1st.

It would be fun if it was only amateurs, now that will be fun to watch...but to let them explain the decisions that they made. That way you (the viewer) would see the difference in thinking.

If there is a choice with amateurs or without, I definitely vote for amateurs. I think it's a good idea :)

Instead of 'amateurs' I think they could pick '4 relatively unknowns' and have them all playing on the same team!

One idea could be to choose 4 online MTT Twitch streamers. A short tournament series could be held amongst a small hand-picked group to arrive at the final 4 players (maybe start with 9, hold 5x 9man SnG's & pick the Top 4 players).
OR, I could just pick them, LOL.
Maybe have one team made up for players from Northern Europe (they could be called the 'Northern Euro Donks'), have another team made up of old school MTT players (ie. Helmuth, Negreanu, Seidel, Hanson), and another made up of 4 women.

Yes, maybe 4 is too much but 1-2 is good. Also make some sort of audition for the amateurs... like first win a satellite then video interview. Remember original Big Game? Hilarious moments always come when amateurs play with pros, they were hand selected this way.

When the subject is entertainment, having some amateurs playing against top pro players is very fun. Who would not love watching an amateur winning a hand against Negreanu with a big bluff ou a hero call?

I think a separate show with amateurs only instead of mixed in with the pros would be a cool idea. Keep an eye out for Bensbenz stream house show coming soon.
