One day in poker luck is 80% and 20% is a strategy. At a great distance 80% strategy and 20% luck.

When you get a card, then this is luck, because there are occasions when during the tournament you will never have a top pocket, but 2 and 7 constantly. The other work of your skil

i do not agree with the 90% luck. if you are all in preflop luck plays a much bigger role. but aside from that, i think it is far more strategy than luck. bad beats will happen, but good strategy will pay off

That's funny I think it's more in luck of the draw but it's how the player think and react I like to call even if I have nothing just to get a feel of the players and see if they bluff more then they have some draw

Your skill for the game of poker INCREASES YOUR CHANCES/LUCK. I mean, you're not going to call with rags like 2,6 off suit all the time right? Of course not! That knowledge is skill. That same hand can benefit you in late position if lets say everyone folds to you however understanding when to call, bet and raise INCREASES YOUR LUCK! Yeah...so increase your skill as much as you can and your chances/luck will increase. Why is it we see similar faces at final tables or top 30?..its called skill, there are no Poker Gods favoring these people more than you. your intention to be better will help you be better.

I agree that luck more than strategy in poker. I guess 70% of luck and 30% strategy in online poker.

If you play for the moment sure it is all luck, but if you play for the long run it is all strategy. If you get called by worse cards and get beat a few times but only play a few times it feels like they got lucky. If you play a LOT of poker and people keep doing this you will make LOT of money because the percentages show you will win a large majority of the time when it is AA v 22... It really is all about the numbers.

Most ordinary people, if interviewed, will most likely say that poker is a game of luck. However, people who play poker professionally and take it seriously, think differently. They know that the constant superiority in the skill over the weaker players at the distance will eventually result in a steady win. In poker, you play against people, not against the casino, so much depends on you and not on luck. Poker is a game of mathematics and chances
I also think that luck is a very important nuance, without which it is almost impossible to win. But in this game much depends on you.

To the sad sina of AA

It is a game of luck and patience. I just lost a few minutes ago on AA.

This happens to me directly loses with AA, in the beginning was a happiness when it appeared AA today I get sad because you give a reise the opponent comes from all in and has no way to get away with AA and most of the time is defeat

100% Strategy

I've been thinking about whether there is luck in poker or it's pure strategy because there is a lot of strategy, but we can not put aside luck, nothing that exists in the world can generalize, I think poker is 10% strategy and 90 % luck, why in an AA hand that you lose to 22 preflop! It's a bad luck you had! So poker for me is a mix of the two!

100% strategy, all it matters is your EV (expected value), if your EV is positive it means if you play the same hand the same way, you will win the EV on average. You need to be aware that your lost some hands, but in the long run you will be winning chips. Especially, sometimes you are going to lose more hands than what you will win, but when you indeed win, you might win much more than what you lose when losing the hand, making the net EV positive, so you will be actually losing money if you fold.

It is a game that is based on luck for sure.
However, winning at this game and making money is based solely on strategy and skill.

Let's put it this way, receiving AA means being lucky, I mean, with 52 cards in the deck and exactly 2652 combos you can receive, you get one of 6 possible AA hands, basically odds of having AA is 0,22% so receiving them is definitely luck!
However, to actually get full value out of them, to also not lose a lot with them in some weird situations is based on strategy, skill and general knowledge of the game.

luck will always be an important factor pro I do not think that 90% of the game would be a lottery although sometimes it is more skill than chance luck has an important role luck greetings:D

Game Design Theory

Every game exists on a spectrum between 100% luck and ~0% luck. Betting on coin flips is 100% luck. Chess is ~0% luck (It’s not 0% because your opponent might have eaten some bad food last night, thus not sleeping well, thus performing poorly as the result). When a game exists somewhere between 0 and 100, the meaningful question is not “is it based on luck”. The meaningful question is “how challenging are the decisions that must be made within the skill portion of the game”. Clearly, poker is a game with great depth in the skill portion.

Luck is good for the stability of a game. Chess, for example, uses a complicated player rating system (ELO ratings) to help players find competitors who are skilled enough to make the game close. Poker doesn’t have this problem because even mediocre players get lucky enough to win on occasion. The variance of poker makes it so that weaker players can play with stronger players, which makes it possible for new players to enter the game.

Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic the Gathering describes the effects of luck in games in a very interesting lecture.
