because I love the game with all its bright colors, lots of new people you get to know, the joy of the game, friends who share the same passion, there are actually many things that speak for it, most of all the friends in the game predominate

I like playing poker because it's a game that requires self-control and discipline. Other games have the luck factor as the most important. Poker manages to balance things between luck vs. skill.

PASSION I would say mostly the love of the game the ups and the downs no when to leave the wave and when to ride it. Luck, and skill can't ask for a better game

I totally love playing poker but only Texas NL Holdem tbh. It’s such a well balanced simple game which is also super complex on many different levels. This all sounds cheesy but you know what I mean.

I wish I played in 2004 like I do now, possibly wouldn’t have lost as much

One of the most common motives is money. Dynamic and not very difficult, the game allows you to quickly and without much difficulty to get a considerable amount of money. The modern poker industry can allow a person who has caught luck by the tail to live comfortably on the money received or even on a percentage of the winnings. However, the poker game does not always end well for the players. There are many cases when a person, having incorrectly chosen a position in poker, completely loses, gets into debt. But do not blame poker for everything – the game is not to blame for the fact that people are unable to control their own actions. The feeling of excitement is often disastrous and leads to disastrous results, regardless of the type of activity.
Another reason for playing poker is personal growth. Poker develops thinking and judgment, helps you feel more confident, develops diligence and teaches you to think ahead. In addition, playing poker allows you to feel people, feel their emotions, understand them better. And, of course, you can't do without a sense of proportion here. Even if you don't know when to stop, poker will quickly teach you to understand at what point it is worth trying hard, and when it will be painless to retreat.
And the last, most pleasant reason for playing poker is the appearance of a sense of rivalry and excitement. In small doses, excitement, as well as healthy competition, are vital to a person. Big and small victories make you feel more confident, raise your self-esteem.

I like the competitiveness. I played sports my whole life but at 40 the only thing I have left is beer league hockey and poker to satisfy my competitive itch.

I like to play games, and I love to win. Poker is a game where you have a big influence on the chance to win, and if you love to optimize your chances, then it is the perfect game for you.

How do you then maximize your chances to win?

First you have to win more than the casino charge.

Rake:
You can't beat the rake, but you can play in the casino with the lowest rake.
One example is playing 1/2c cash games where the rake vaeies from 3,5 % to 5 %.
Over time you can save a lot of rake playing on a casino with 3,5% compared to 5%

Reward systems.
The rake can also be reduced by the reward system offered by most casinos.
And now it gets difficult to predict the value.
Many rewards are more a lotery ticket than a reward, and I don't like lotery tickets.
Reward systems often try to motivate you to play more, so be carefull not to fall in that trap.

Freerolls:
Playing the freerolls offered by the casino can contribute to the chance of beeing a winning player, so use that opportunity.

The way you play:
Most important is the way you play.
Only play good hands
Position is important, late position give you more info on your opponents, early position gives you less information.
Respect the value of your hand and don't take more chances than the value of your hand.

To make a income and have fun.

FUN!
I have always played games, since the first time I could throw a dice, Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, growing up my games changed to Monopoly, Cluedo, Risk and many, many more, the best part is that you are part of the game, and to be a winner, you just need to be lucky.
I could set up a Chess board before I started school, and was the Chess Champion of our school for 4 years running, I just loved getting involved and winning at anything I tried, I didn't win all the time because that is the nature of any game, but it taught me to accept defeat and try harder the next time I played.
Practice, Practice, and Practice again just like any game, and Poker is no different, you have to accept defeat when you lose, pick yourself up and try again, I would play Poker or any card game for match-sticks if I had to, it has never been about winning money, it is always about the competition, the battle between you and the rest of the World that want to try their luck.
Winning is great, whether it is the wsop or a game of Snap with your Grandchildren, they think Granddad is cool when he can win on the Play Station or X-Box and Poker is no different, It is Fun, Enjoyable, even Exciting past-time, the only difference is that there is prize money at the end, and whether it is $20 Dollars in a Free-roll or Thousands of Dollars in a huge event, the best part is being the last man standing.

When the fun Stops, STOP!

in most cases, in order to distract from other problems, with rare exceptions, to earn money.

Because I love to play poker, an the possibility of winning money is tempting.

I have moments where I can't stand poker, so I take a break from poker. But I always come back.

I play poker because it's an interesting way to earn money of the fish... a difficult game that you need to understand the way how to win, a game that eludes those who don't know it..... love this incomplete calculus that mixes logical cleverness with luck
