Just so I can make a contribution to the thread. Its a shallow 20-50 BB table. Started with max buyin and couldnt get anything going. Feel free to comment on these two hands. Only two hands where I won on this table. I dont have a HUD but I can tell u in the first hand, it was just me and sb. He was raising absolutely every hand. Dont know why I called pre but he checked it down and let me catch the nuts..

The only issues I have with both hands is preflop play, first hand it is an obv fold while the second hand is an obv raise. Nothing notable about postflop, super standard.

Played some PLO for real money for the first time last night.

Turns out the lowest you can play at Partypoker is 25PLO (I have a small bankroll on there that I use to just goof around when I'm drunk, on tilt or both).

I lost 2BI over 215 hands, playing on 2 tables, one that looked pretty soft, another that had a couple of guys that looked like they knew what they were doing.

Not sure if I'm going to be able to keep on playing PLO since 25PLO is too high for my PP roll and I'm not sure I'm willing to use up my more serious but not larger PS roll on learning it, it's fun to play something different from time to time though, just can't decide ...
Yeah, its not a good idea to start at that level where the amount lost can be more substantial.

Anyone have thoughts on Omaha hi lo?

Not here, Hi/lo is not my game. I don't have enough of an idea of what is good and what is not to give a good opinion.

Anyone have thoughts on Omaha hi lo?

Love it and hate it. Spend most of my time playing at strs NLO/8 knockout STTs. Find that if you just play super premium hands you wind up in the money easily. And I'm talking about playing only maybe 5-6 hands until the final table.

I still feel like I play way too tight. The only thing I have going for me is I raise a lot on the BTN. Possible for someone to post a pre-flop what hands to see flops with?

Its a hard call to make, against an unknown, I would be closer to assuming he does not have anything

Yeah I'm not a fan of O8, I just do not understand it enough to have the urge to play. I could probably beat the game but I have too many leaks and dont want to waste time learning it.

hand 1) Im folding to his 3 bet preflop, We are out of position without a good hand. Secondly that is not a good flop for you and is closer to check fold.

Hand 2) You cannot play that hand postflop, nothing hits for you on the flop and not enough on the turn. Calling in both the flop and turn is just plain horrible

Hand 3) I have no problem with shove, no reason to believe someone has KK or 88 or 44.. I however think your raise preflop is bad. Just limp there and see a cheap flop with such a weak hand.

Hand 4) totally standard

General observation, you do not have to bet pot on every street everytime you bet.

Alright, Makes sense to me. I would try to justify the second hand by saying I was thinking it was a good board for him to c-bet, but mid hand I think I forgot I got 3-bet... Oops...

Also, what do you do with hands with pairs or hands with a suited A?

We'll say suited A hands like AK87, AQ43. (I'm not sure if those are junky or not) Should we be opening pots and calling raises with these hands? What about worse suited A type hand?

And I never know what to do with pairs. QQ-22 with nothing good really.
Should we be looking to hit sets with QQ-77? Limping in, calling raises, opening pots? I usually fold 66-22 all the time. Is that a mistake?

Should we be playing 3-in-a-row type hands a lot facing raises and open with them? QJT, T98, 765. When does it become a dumb hand to play?

IP, OOP. No real specifics on our opponents. I guess just assume they are all pretty good. I know poker is a lot of playing the player, but that's not really my problem. I'm just trying to grasp basic PLO things.

I hope that stuff is answerable.

My comments are in bold. Not very detailed but if you need more clarification, just let me know.

We'll say suited A hands like AK87, AQ43. (I'm not sure if those are junky or not) Should we be opening pots and calling raises with these hands? What about worse suited A type hand? I'm really glad you bring up this point because it is something that beginners do not always grasp at first. In the simplest way possible, 1 4 card omaha hand has the equivalent of 6 holdem hands. Now if you look at the possibilities of a hand like AK87, you have AK/A8/A7/K8/K7/87. When spread out like that, you really do not have much to play with. One of the things you are looking for in omaha is 4 cards that work well together to make straights, flushes strong 2 pair hands etc. you dont have that possibility with hands like that, they do not connect well. Not saying you cannot play them but in most cases, they are not very profitable.

And I never know what to do with pairs. QQ-22 with nothing good really.
Should we be looking to hit sets with QQ-77? Limping in, calling raises, opening pots? I usually fold 66-22 all the time. Is that a mistake?Another point that I am glad you are bringing up. Unlike Holdem, sets are not as godly, you will find yourself in a few more set over set situations so more than just the possibility of hitting a set, you need to have (if you have a mid range pair, Like 66 - TT) very good connecting cards that would add value to the hand. Same thing with JJxx and QQxx and KKxx, you need more than just a pair, you need some other cards that bring up other opportunities, like eg, JJT9 with a suit or double suited.

Should we be playing 3-in-a-row type hands a lot facing raises and open with them? QJT, T98, 765. When does it become a dumb hand to play? This depends a lot on the the type of players that are raising and what our position is. Its very hard to play those hands out of position against decent players. Still, only playing with 3 connecting cards and one drooler makes the hand a lot weaker.

IP, OOP. No real specifics on our opponents. I guess just assume they are all pretty good. I know poker is a lot of playing the player, but that's not really my problem. I'm just trying to grasp basic PLO things.Against decent players, it becomes harder to profit as you move out of the prime positions (BTN, CO). This is mostly because by acting first, you really have no idea where you are at and being in position presents a lot of opportunities for a good player to pick up on weakness and be able to bluff more profitably.

I hope that stuff is answerable.

I do not see how you could possibly be taken seriously, even if you did, when you are dressed like that.
