Why do you prefer tournaments instead of cash games?

I find I like to play for all the chips or none, so Tournaments are much more suited to that. Cash games are not a suitable place when I am in that playing mood.

I got hooked on the thrill of the whole process of building a stack, making it into the money, and battling my way to the final table. The few times I have won, or taken the top three or four, it was just so much more fun that grinding at a cash table, even when I win big time.

I used to be a bit afraid of tournaments. I grew up watching the wsop, but had very little opportunities to actually play mtt. I would mostly play cash games with friends. Even when I started playing online I was wary of the mtt games. The idea of entering and knowing that my odds for failing and not cashing are very high always made me want to stick to the cash games.

It wasn't until I played my first live tournament at a local casino and took 3rd that I realized how much fun MTTs could be. It was just a $50 buy in, so I didn't exactly hit it big, but I got hooked on the whole thing, and now I play almost only MTT. I will still play cash games live, but I tend to stay away from online cash games so I can spend my time and energy on tournaments. Right now I just have more fun playing MTT.

Winning a tournament can bring you moral satisfaction. Few things compare to that wonderful feeling when you finally managed to beat thousands of opponents and when you received a huge payoff for your efforts.

I prefer tournaments because of the lure of that big payday for the winner.

I also think they are more exciting than cash games. Cash games are pretty much straight forward where as tournaments you can have many different situations within the span of a few minutes.

You can be chip leader and punishing the small stacks one minute to short stacked and fighting for your tournament life the next.

I would say that is what draws most players in. Some people play them because they are also more bankroll friendly as buy-ins can add up quick in a cash game bad run. In tournaments you pay your entry and thats that for the tourney.

There are a lot of people who play only tournaments - the question is mostly for them. I'm just curios why some people prefer not cash games but tournaments?

Maybe because of the spirit of competition?

Or the satisfaction from winning a tournament is more remarkable?

I don't play poker to make money. Maybe that's why I'm not interested in playing with 6 - 9 people! There are more people in tournaments, so the game is diverse and unpredictable! It is interesting!

Tournaments, especially guarantee MTT's, give you such a great chance to win big without having to put up such a huge buy in. Seems like a lot of people value their stacks more knowing that if they get knocked out, they can't get back in. Unless of course it's a rebuy tourney then that's a whole different story. It's just such a rewarding feeling knowing you were grinding it out for hours with a big field to win the tourney .

Hi .A tournament is good for a few reasons.Firstly you begin with the same chips ,there is no difference between stakes.Second reason is that you cant run it twice or make a deal ,if you call there is no escape. Also the value is another reason ,for example if you buy in 2$ in a MTT the winner will take a very good amount of money( 2$ for 1400$).I wish good luck for all players and enjoy poker.

I prefer tournaments, because in them I can win a lot of money for the minimum investment. For example, I can win a $ 8 satellite for a tournament with a $ 215 buy-in.

I think many like MTT because it gives you more action once the rising blinds force players to take more risks.
Beginners and recreational players tend to go for Games with more action. Just folding hand after hand like a tight cashgame grinder bores them.

The downside is that you need to take some time if you plan on finishing high in the money...

I love both cash games and tourneys. I once had a Pro tell me that he loved tourneys because it broke down into 3 different games and helped him with all 3. He said the beginning reminded him of a cash game. The late game was tournament style. And the FTs were like SnGs.

I play both

I play both tournaments and cash game but to be honest I have a lot of fun playing tournaments I quite believe Im good in tournaments so it is awesome I also do like cash game and I guess I play more cash game than tournaments but when I play tournaments I have too much more fun.

What I like the most when I play tournaments is reach new positions and eliminated players on the table is so good I mean it is a shame for them but thats the game and all the time I'm going for the first place

Tournaments

Howdy,

I'm definitely a tourney girl. I enjoy the challenge of trying to make final table. Plus I find it the safest way to enjoy a game of poker, without loosing your shirt.

True enough if you are a good cash game player, the outcome of a session can be much more profitable but the reverse is also true, right? So I'd rather play tourneys and enjoy the process than go for the riches.

I just cant get the hang of cash games online, I always come up short. However, I like tournaments or STG's much better. I've really tried hard to play the cash game online to improve my skills' but to no avail I just cant seem to do well. I am a recreational player and like to see how far I can get in a tourney. I have done my best in STGs.

I like both, but I can't play cash for too long just because it makes me upset, even if I win I just don't feel comfortable, and at tournaments I can play for hours and I just feel good :D

That's weird dude I feel the same way.

When I win big in cash games I don't feel that great.

I think to myself now is the time to leave because I have a feeling I could lose what I just won just as quickly. Also I was not properly bank rolled for this particular cash game.

And I feel a lot more patient and under control in tournaments.

Cash games are stressful. You can hit the right cards and win big. then all of a sudden you think you are ahead in a hand and BAM money gone.

Very Stressful

I should

I should avoid cash games but sometimes I just think "maybe this time I will win". -> lose

That is why I prefer tournaments. I'm just better in those. I don't know why but that is the fact.:confused::confused:

I would rather play a tournament is the mental challenge. In a cash game you only need to worry about your current hand but in a tourney you need to plan for the long haul. Also in a cash game someone could win a very large pot then get up and walk away leaving you with no chance to get that money back but in a tourney the money is there til the bitter end.:D:D

cash is too random and to full of people who can reload at will,
prefer tactics and when you are out your out...
there seems to be some mystique attached to the cash gamer as being the essence of poker which I can understand but I much prefer tournaments as the cerebral answer to cash games.....

Cash games are more reliable source of incomes for good players. But also it's more stressful. Every hand you deal with money while in tournaments you deal with chips. Also tournament poker officially is a sport in my country.
