I see cash games with a risk / raise bankroll mode quickly, tournaments are usually for those who want to risk little and have a great comeback, in addition to testing the skills against various opponents. And complementing that the feeling of winning a tournament is unique haha.

There's more variants in tournament poker than in cash games.

It's still predominantly about math and psychology, but you have raising blinds meaning the dynamic changes and you have to adjust your strategy.

I find cash games boring so lose concentration, and then money. The rising blinds in tournament play keep it interesting and force you to vary your play. That said, I've never studied cash game strategy and I'm sure I'd find it more interesting if I understood it better (just like cricket).
Oh yeah, also the dream of taking down a huge tourney and retiring to play cards full-time. You've got to dream.

I enjoy cash games but the roi of cash is no comparison to tournaments. Putting $215 - $550 with chance to win over a million dollars is amazing. Of course this type of event isn’t everyday but it does happen. The prize guarantees in tournaments make them more appealing and preferable to me. I also enjoy the excitement of making it deep and final tabling a tournament. That’s not to take away from the excitement of doubling up in a cash game. I enjoy that obviously as well.

Its just a matter of choice really.

Tournament is all about high risk, high reward. So if you have the appetite for it, then you can go for it.

Cash game, the risk is a bit controllable and you can play more judiciously. But the grind can be way too much, specially if you don't have huge bankroll.

For $1.10 on pokerstars, back in 2013-14, you could have scored $700+ on any given day (Just think about the amount of time I would have taken had I played cash game with that $1.10). That's what made the deal for me.

Now the prize pool has shrunk, but still you can score somewhere around $300-$400 on any given day with a $1.10 buy-in (Do check the tournaments for better insight).

People play mtts cause they aren't good poker players. They have tried cash but can't hang with good players so they go to mtts to try luck box. You see it all the time on stream people try to play cash and get crushed and then realize they are not good at poker and go to mtts and try bink mtts by playing nitty waiting for the blinds go to up high and shove hands like AQ+ and hope they win the flips or suck out when they are behind. And if they are lucky enough they can win a mtt and it covers their losses.

Cash Games are not attractive at the micro levels.... too much grinding for little reward.
I think it isneasier to build a bankroll with MTT on the low levels... and if you make it to thentop of a large tourney on Stars ornParty you can win significant amounts for small buyins...

I love both. It really depends on what I have going on. I love cash games because you can make money fast. I also love tourneys because you can make A LOT of money. The only problem is....you also HAVE to HAVE luck on your side in tourneys...just my two cents.

I PREFER TOURNMENTS

If to choose between cash games and tournaments I prefer tournaments

they are more competitive I think the cash games are earning money for me poker is to make money but also to the competitive side and overcoming emotions control leaks and tournaments help a lot in this direction

I prefer tourneys for very simple reason: freerolls are just impossible in cash games. I'm determined to build my initial bankroll from freerolls + you can't learn cash games by playing without money (I'm not taking into consideration play money games because I don't believe they would useful). Also I've been watching some cash games streams on Twitch from time to time; it looks so stressful as it's possible to loose lots of money withing a single game session.

I like playing with chips, playing with money makes me nerveous. I know it is strange and cash games will improve my game faster. However, playing with chips give me more confidence in the game.

I always play tournaments, there the adrenaline is higher and you have good prizes, you can also last more time playing and it's fun.

Yah tournaments are butta than cash games because you last longer .play more hands. and much bigger prizes. Now the cash games you will eventually lose all the money you played so hard to win in the tourneys

agreed in many circumstances. ie. there aren't many cash game players amongst the players who participate in the CC freerolls.
Personally I play mostly cash game poker but I still drag myself into some tourneys on the weekends occasionally (fields are just STILL sooooo SOFT it is incredible!).

tourneys are easier because they have a higher ratio of bad vs. good players in them.

Tournament is better for making money if you are a solid player,to play cash and earn you must be one of the best, more stronger players play on cash so you must be a perfect player if you want to earn in a cash game in long run, tournamentevery body can win but in cash game week player on long run be tapped faster....

Newer players Love tourneys. Thats why I mainly play tournaments with a smaller buy in. Yes you gonna get knocked out by a stupid call from time to time. But if you play smart you can usually make the money. I also will play 4-6 at a time at the lower stakes.

Hi all, I have read all the comments so far, my opinion is the feel is very different tournament vs cash game, a certain rhythm to tournaments with the added peek at the rising blinds evey now and then to make sure your stack to blind ratio is good, and chip building and all sorts of tourney ideas, for me a very different tune....
Cash games are more laid back in a sense, i get the feeling I'm just playing with friends, trying to outdo one another , good fun, I play some cash games when not in the zone for tourneys, although recently I haven't played many cashg because didn't want it to affect my tournament ranges etc, i always felt one has to have 2 minds almost if playing both, one mind separate for each version. ... (some cash games are longer than tourneys)

I also feel that's one reason why some successful tv pro's who end up playing a lot of cash games , tend to lose their tournament range and rhythm and still use the cash games ones, to their and our (as fans) dismay .... (don't shoot me lmao)

It’s mostly personal choice like asking ten people the same question, you’ll probably get many different answers. Myself, I like tournaments, just me, I just think you have to be a better player to go through hundreds of people

There's way more dynamic in the game, and it's more affordable.

For me it's a simple answer. I lose more money faster playing cash games than I do playing tournaments. And also the feeling of achievement when you make a deep run in a tournament or better still, a 1st place finish.
