Why do you prefer tournaments instead of cash games?

I like how the system for tournaments are set up. If ya place, you begin to win more as you, chase for first place.....

I like the structures of tournaments and a start and finish the challenge of being champion. I never know when to stop in cash games there isn’t that choice in a tournament when it’s over it’s over.

I like the icm aspect and the shallower play, but I dont like watching people limp check to sitters and fold to 1 blind stacks.

I prefer cash games, but I like FRolls b/c there is no risk of loss especially if I'm just chilling and having a good time.

STTs are far different from MTTs for me. I really like STTs, they are shorter, faster and stamina isn't the key issue. I'm a fan of that.
Also there is a natural Finality built into Tournaments, everybody gets shortstacked at some point unless you get lucky and have the skill to play that well. Which I also like.
I prefer cash in general because of the lower variance and it feels more fair because of that. But Tournaments are more exciting for sure.

Playing tournaments is heaps better because I don't have to worry about whether or not I should get up and leave the table or if I should play today... play this morning at what time and when should I finish.. etc etc

I don't have to have all these questions on my mind all day... well whilst I'm playing I should say. See I don't know about you but I know for me it just becomes too much are then combine that with that bad beat .... it turns a nice day into a sh#t day faster than Usain Bolt lol

Tournaments just don't have all this baggage to contend with. I can play until I'm knocked out and go get me a glass of Coke, happy days! ;)

I think, because in cash you gain money only when you playing personally vs somebody and in MTT, players enter, then being thrown out, leave money in the prize pool and you don't have to even see most of them.

tournament play

I like tourney play because of the challenge, cash games are more fun in person. in tourney play we have to change gears so many times, cash games are all about playing super tight. easier to lose your stack in a huury too if you aren't careful. I like the marathon of the tourney. endurance

MTT's like a big trip, like Alice's adventure in Wonderland. So many people you meet on different coasts. And you need to talk each other in different language and change yer accent

I enjoy the mental challenges a tournament has compared to a cash game. You have a game plan in a tournament and you may need to adjust this game plan for various different reasons, and knowing what to do and when to do it is when you discover "poker skill" not just luck. In cash games the only skill you need is to read your opponent in the current hand you are in.:D:D

There are a lot of people who play only tournaments - the question is mostly for them. I'm just curios why some people prefer not cash games but tournaments?

Maybe because of the spirit of competition?

Or the satisfaction from winning a tournament is more remarkable?

in tournaments you can recover from a bad run. If you have a bad run in cash games you can't exactly recover until you take more money to the next table. You end up losing more money.

They are such different games that I discourage cash game players from just "trying" a tournament on a whim.

Winning a tournament is very satisfying but can take a long time.

If I don't think I can sit down for 5-10 hours then I wouldn't even enter a tournament.

You can win 20 times your buyin in a tournament - but that is difficult to do at a cash table.

Good luck !

I'm starting to enjoy tournaments more just for the satisfaction of making it deep into the cash against 500+ other people.

I think cash games are a more consistent way to make money - but I prefer tournaments because of the story of going from beginning to end with different phases and when you finally win you have outlasted the entire field. This is more of an accomplishment for me then grinding away at cash table.

I just tried it. I was playling mirco cash games semi loose agresstive with range all over the place every now and then, it worked quite well . Won 2.5 buy ins. Tried it in 3 dollar tournament came 2nd out of 350.

Maybe just lucky. Sometimes I call or 3 bet with crap hands . Q4 off, 28 suited , 39 suited

I like more tournaments, now I'm trying cash, am following zerospoker, sinkarma in his challenge of 100 dollars to 100 thousand dollars, and I'm trying to get my own challenge.

That depends on each player, I really bored the cash game, I like the mtt and one of the reasons is for competitiveness as you said, however unlike the cash game, the tournaments variance is usually harder, to me the cash game seems a slower process

I do play both but prefer tournament poker over cash any day. For me the reason is simple. I used to be very athletic and into multiple sports big time and was even qualified to be professional bowler at one point. Then I got hurt and was unable to do any sports seriously. This was a killer for me. For me tournament poker lets me satisfy my competitive nature and why I play them for the most part.

I think that in tournaments, there are more chances of getting a better prize than playing cash tables, at those tables I think the risk of losing much of your bank is bigger than playing tournaments or sng

Actually, cash tables have the lowest variance. But you do need to use BRM which many people don't have the skill or patience for.

I think people just like playing freerolls which are all MTTs. That's why I play in a lot of MTTs.

Cash game:
...is a grind.
...you can lose a lot of money quickly but not win a lot quickly.
...long run has no luck in it for anything significant.
...is structured for highly skilled grinders.
...there is no glory in cash games.
...there is no excitement except for obvious donkey-whales at table.
...high frequency rake.
...feels like a job to play.
