If you feel that you need to continue again, then of course do not even think about it. Re-entry bears fruit in most cases.

Here is this interestingly, that I thought, and is re-entri part of bankroll management, if this is so the feelings here will be superfluous.
For example, I crashed out of the tournament, the current blinds are 150/300, suddenly I had a premonition that I would win this tournament, do I need to re-enter, entering the tournament again my stack will be equal to 10bb, starting the game with such a stack is definitely not worth it.

Depends on the individual player? I have seen Professional Players re-buy for $100,000. Two or Three times in some of the big Cash Games, and still lose and go out on the bubble.
You have to ask yourself many questions like How much is it going to cost me? How far are we from the money? Can I make the money if I use the add-on? And more importantly Will I make a profit if I make the min-cash?
If the answer to any of these questions is No! Then I would not re-buy or add-on, it just wouldn't make sense.

When the fun Stops, STOP!

When it comes to re-entry tournaments, I don't really like them. There are often times when players push all-in hoping for a quick big stack with a potentially weak hand that they wouldn't have done in a normal tournament without a re-entry. I played such a tournament several times, then I used the re-entry maximum once, often with very good results because after re-entering my luck started to favor me :)

I am not adept at making re-buy. I believe that just one buy in is enough to play. I understand that bad beats happen and therefore end of the game, and if I fall for any wrong move it is a sign that I am not well, I prefer not to play again.

I played a final table in a 2.00 tournament last week where only 2 of us didn't rebuy 2-5x. It certainly was profitable for everyone there.

It may not be profitable for you, but I consider this part of my buy- in depending on the prize pool. There is a difference between re-entry and rebuy. For example in a "rebuy" I can rebuy right at the beginning giving me 2x the starting stack. Usually there is also an add on.

If there is a 2.00 rebuy I may cap the tournament at 10.00. 2 buy-ins, (2.00+2.00 twice =8.00) and 1 add on.

On a re-entry once you bust you can start over. I sometimes use a 2nd bullet but rarely more than that.

I don't see anything in either scenario which made one or the other less profitable .

What makes a game more profitable is having a higher skill level than the average player in the tournament. That's about it.

Playing in tournaments if applies game the I do one buy-in, if not applies the still usually do 2-3 re-entry. When I have a big bankroll, I do re-entry, and when the bankroll is small, regardless of the bad or good game, I do only one buy-in. That's what I noticed, looking at their games for a few months came to the conclusion that I have in the long run the total gain in tournaments is less when I do re-entry, and when I play only making one buy-in in the tournament the total gain comes out more. It turns out that to do re-entry tournaments are not profitable.

While for sharks like you there will almost always be +EV in rebuying (even if its just for 10bb) then edge won't be as big as playing from the beginning.

The shallower the stacks, the more luck, more variance, less of the skill edge that can be applied, and so your EV/ROI will be less when you late reg.

That being said, your ICM awareness may make up for it somewhat and that's what almost always it's still profitable to re enter really late, it's just much higher variance.

I personally don't like to rebuy for less than 20bb, but that's cause i like to 'get my money's worth' in terms of play... if i were just looking to max EV, then re-enter unlimited (as long as playing good) is completely fine.

And you made a good point, bankroll matters!

The entry with less chips should almost be treated like a higher buyin when considering BRM

I prefer freezeout tourneys. You see less BS play in the early stages if players know they can't rebuy. If I wanted to paying bingo I would sit with my Grandmother.

I agree 100% with you about people playing 'showdown' when there are rebuys, but on the other hand when I have a bad beat and rebuys are available, many times I have been able to get back into the game and place . . . So I guess you have to take the bad with the good . . .

Thread: Re-entry, profitable or not ?

I think it depends on the level of the tournament, as well as the cost in relation to the bankroll, you also have to take into account your state of mind if you are frustrated, better not to continue in my opinion since this way you could face the taking of bad decisions by the state of mind in which we find ourselves.

I find opponents Stack size is main determinant, and proximity to bubble depending on BB equity.

At smaller levels it is profitable. According to my experience.

I have experienced success on a rebuy but just once. Too lose most of the time when I rebuy. Mostly because of the way i have lost.

Re-entery gives you a low chip stack which aggressive player will
take advantage of.

some re-entry tournaments sometimes take away the micro winnings I get from freeroolls ... I've decided not to play them because it's tempting.

My rule of thumb is look at the last place finish $ winnings.

You should never put more money into a tournament than you can win from last place idealistically.

If you are sure, then why not try the second entrance.

Depending on the tournament pay out guarantee I will re enter 1 or maybe 2 times. Sometimes I will get lucky and spin in (ACR spin to get in slot), otherwise I limit my rebuys to 2. The min payout is never much and usually a little more then the buy in to at most double the entry fee. Unfortunately for me I am a min cash specialist lol. I seem to hit a brick wall and start to run horrible once I am in the money. Obv I am happy to cash, but would love to win with my AA when a deep run is going on. I never want to have to make the final table just to break even. Some tournaments are so top heavy with the prize pool that it becomes fiscally irresponsible to buy in many times over because you’re often so far behind the chip leaders that it’s impossible to win unless you go on an improbable heater.

If you do not count the buy-in to do 2 re-enter, then in order to win back the money invested in the tournament, you need to get at least into the top 20.
It turns out that the later you do re-entryand their number, all this together greatly affects the profitability of the tournament.

I rarely re-enter because my attitude is "there's always tomorrow". I am in no hurry to win!!! But I should also admit that I don't play poker to make money, I play poker because I love playing poker. Money is not a priority for me at all. I know that makes me a bit of a weirdo.

I don't want to embarass anyone so I'll keep this story generic, but I recently watched someone make 16 re-entries into a tournament that only paid 8 buy-ins for first place... so even if that player won the tournament, they would have lost 8 buy-ins. But they didn't cash at all and lost all 16 buy-ins. It was painful to watch but that player did it to themselves and deserves no pity or sadness. I just couldn't understand what goes thru the brain of someone like that, all I can guess is that they have an addiction to the action and just don't care about profiting.

From a practical standpoint, I might re-enter one time if I bust early and am still excited to play in that tournament. If it's a bigger prize pool for instance, that can influence my re-entry decision, but I'll never be one of those players who does 5 or 6 or more re-enters. I just don't think that is wise unless it is a very special tournament. I don't play for the money, but that doesn't mean I am un-wise about my bankroll, I guard it just like someone who does depend on their poker income to survive. I'll close by repeating myself - there's always tomorrow, or there's always next week! Rather than re-entering a bunch of times, I will just wait instead.
