I think you always learn something. even if it is sometimes frustrating when you just do not win a prize. but the more you play you develop your own tactics and skills.

I kinda enjoy playing freerolls, sometimes I play while working at home, of course that when you start playing poker you expend more time on it and also helps you getting into the game, then with the past of the years one start playing less, but I still play one or two per day while doing other stuff at home just to be entretained a bit.

Is the time wasted if you cash in most? I do play everything. But freerolls are fun and no worries.

Wow. I've put some thought into how much time I've spent on poker overall vs. the meager return, but never freerolls alone.. It would take wasting even more hours to calculate an answer close to the real number, but I would guess it has to be in the thousands of hours. Crazy.

(not that I make any better return on cash buyins.. I'm just not that great at poker)

Hours wasted? hours learning to adapt to weird maniac ways of play and how to counter attaack this type okf players... freerolls area a great school for non-gto play
Thank you for this, and for many other similar replies from other people, as i am just strating to play poker with money at stake, and i thought that playing freerolls was a great way of doing this. This confirmation of that I'm doing the right thing is great :)

If all freerolls are canceled, it will be Black Monday for poker fans. What wasted time are we talking about?

If you are already a winning tournament player, then it certainly makes sense to value your time. Which can often lead to the choise of passing up on a freeroll, especially if it runs at a time, where you dont want to buy in to other regular tournaments, that usually take more time to finish.

Another good example is the CC club freerolls on pokerstars. They are nice tournaments, but usually more than 200 people compete for 100$, and because they run at a regular 10 min blind interval speed and start with 150BB, they take at least 4 hours to complete. Which is not really worth your time, if you have a positive ROI in regular 5$ tournaments or above.

if you don't have money to create your bank there is nothing better than this type of tournaments as we already know in poker anything can happen and between them is winning and you can do it

Hi,

I think Freerolls are a great way to improve one's poker skills without having the fear of going broke..especially as a beginner, it is great to be challenged as it is the case in CC FRs. I feel there are a lot of good players and I enjoy seeing how they play and learn one or two things from good players.

Cheers

I just finished a free roll and it was kind of painful. Just over a min cash, like 90 out of 600ish. I just look at them as an exercise in patience and discipline. If I can be patient with these psychopaths, I should be able to do well in regular large field tournaments. It was a lot harder than I thought though. Its hard to fold A9o and then see 2 guys call with Ace rags and whiff the board, but it is what it is.

A tip for frustrated freeroll players.
Most of them are over run by Russians and Ukrainians. These guys have no idea how to play and behave like maniacs.
I have found playing poker when they are asleep improves my return in tournaments and SNGs.
Just register and play when there time zone says they will be away in dreamland.
As a Cardchat example the freerolls on Stars start when the above register and overwhelm the tournaments.
On ACR when the tournaments run out of the Eastern Block timezone there are fewer players from the area and the incidence of maniacal play is less and the games more skillful.

The hours spent playing freerolls are very rewarding. You can gain experience. Because you are not particularly at risk

100+ hours. And yes, 95% of that time was wasted.

Freerolls are not a waste of time but you have to be careful about players who don't take it seriously.

Over the years, especially in my early online poker days, I spent countless hours in freerolls. Why not, I was only working part time and going to school part time. Life was easy back then. Now, my time is limited for poker so I'm playing less and less freerolls, spending my time on actual descent size buyins so I can get a sizeable return for my time spent, granted making the money. Any thoughts on how much time you've consumed in freeroll land. Is it worth it?

Even though I've moved to cash games, I still do enjoy the occasional freeroll. It gives me the chance to better enjoy the social/mathematical aspect of the game while letting financials take the back seat. I don't agree that you "waste" hours on freeroll land, you're either making a few extra bucks, or learning. Right?

Everyone made a voluntary choice. If you think that the choice is unfortunate, you can remove all poker programs and not waste time on trifles.:)

[/ CITA]

I belive that if you dont have the money to invest on your own bank roll, of course the freerolls worth it, i wasn´t any money to invest and, in a week a play five freerolls i get didn´t get money on two of them, on two of them I rised to the pay, and on one of them y reached the first place, so it was very difficult with more than 2500 players and only 5 dollars, but thanks to that i get my bak roll and even when it was a little amount, in two days i get to increase to the double, and make a solid bank roll, otherwise, would be impossible to me get even a peny on my bankroll. So... if you dont have money to invest, the freerolls worth it, and, if you have money to invest and the poker is only a hobbey and you have a lucrative job, deffineley the freerolls are waste of time.

The way the players act is the reason because freerolls are an easy way to get money to start, no point in getting frustrated by that I think
