I'm trying to deposit money on Carbon poker. They do not have a visa card option anymore. One option is still wire transfer. However they want me to transfer the money to some random person in the phillipines. It seems sketchy to me. Is it really legit(meaning my deposit will get into my account in a timely manner)? Has anybody else deposited money through the wrie transfer? what was your experience?
FYI i live in New Jersey. I'm not sure what my specific state laws are regarding online poker.
having the exact same problem. It seems somewhat sketchy to me as well, even though merge is a huge network. I honestly don't feel like going through the hassel to wire transfer to the phillipines. I emailed support and they told me that the visa option would be back up shortly, and that it was just down temporarily in my area.

WU/wire transfers to/from US players normally go to/from countries like the Phillipines and Costa Rica, so no surprise there. You do it if you want to play and have no other option. Also it's the absolute best way to withdraw. Lock WU withdrawals come from random people in the Phillipines.

Been playing a lot more live poker games of late but when you factor in gas/commute time it makes less and less sense. What is everyone's impression of Skillbet? I saw the banners with Lacey on 2+2. Can someone let me know either here or through a PM if its been smooth to deposit, thanks!

Does a bear chit in the woods? Do birds have beaks? Did Steve Brody take a chance?
Kind of a unambivalent question, but yes, I do.

i currently use Bovada. my deposit was done using a credit card. I have not made a withdrawal but i will update this forum when i do. they have a 100K guarantee tourn on SUN which was a significant reason in my selecting them.

I just started playing again after the whole ban and crap cause a friend told me about black chip poker. I like the site but players aren't too talkative. Would be nice to make friends here and have some people to play with.

I just started back playing as I am to far from a casino anymore a live one anyway living in indianapolis. online poker needs to be legal its stupid for it not to be tax it, only make it available for US players and have the federal government regulate it.

Off the top of my head...

Lock & juicy stakes (Revolution Network)
Carbon, Black Chip, Sportsbook/Play Aces (Merge Network)
America's Cardroom (Yatahay Network)

I'm sure there are some others, but those are probably the biggest/most popular.

There are also some advertising driven sites, and in a lot of cases they are bigger than we think.

The Facebooks sites, obviously, where in many cases you can win real money, but you can not multi-table.

Zen (associated with many Casino's, like Hustler, and CardPlayer) recently gave itself a new , and much better, look. But you do have to put up with ads. You can sort of multi-table. I actually have received real money from a win at Zen. The payouts were slow, but faster than what we are enduring at the Merge sites these days.

These advertising sites are purely promo sites. No ring games. All tourney's.

Then there are a few subscriptions sites. ClubWpt for example. Zen also has subscription games. Not sure if they are pooled with the non-scription tables.

FWIW, tourneys at ZEN fill faster, and bigger than any of the regular sites we Amerikants play at. But again, while better than it used to be, it is not an ergonomically pleasant experience.

And Yatahay is now called the Winning Poker Network.

Cool thanks for the suggestions. I haven't played the subscriptions ones yet, I'll have to check them out. Is clubwpt associated with the old tv show?

I saw some ads on 2+2 for Skillbet, anyone else try it yet?

kilgoretrout I play on Carbon quite a bit and I have made deposits using wire transfer and I have had no problems. I have not had to deposit for quite some time so I am not sure what the process may be now but it worked fine. The only time I had an issue was when the bank teller sent peco's instead of US dollars. That stopped the process dead and I had to return to the bank a correct. Not sure about the credit cards as I don't like to use them on any of the sites I play but who knows maybe that is easier. At Carbo as soon as the wire was sent and you follow the process it was in my account within minutes. Good luck.

^Pecos? I'm guessing you meant pesos.

I've had issues even depositing money so withdrawing seems like a even bigger headache.

I'm playing on bovada only. Not a huge fan of no screen names but they do pay out fairly quick.

US poker

I played on LockPoker for about a year, and made two deposits with no trouble at all. At the time I used my Visa card and it was incredibly easy. I cashed out for $175 and it took 8 weeks for my check to get to my house. That was the only time I cashed out from there. I heard if you have them wire it you can get it done in like 4 days.

I now play on Black Chip Poker and I could not use a Visa. So I decided to wire 100 bucks via Western Union to them. They gave me some address to wire the money to a representative in the Philippines, sketchy I know, but I did it. I had that 100 bucks in my account within 12 hours. My real life friend who did that same thing as me had his 250 bucks approved in less then 3 hours. Black Chips customer support has been fantastic! I cannot express this enough, LockPoker never responded once to any emails. Black Chip responds so fast and they are 24 hours. Hope this helps!

Crazy that people are willing to essentially send money off in a leap of faith like that.

I tried out Skillbet, it was super easy to deposit. Going to withdraw and see how it goes.

It's not a leap of faith, it's a calculated decision. So far I've received more from US facing sites than I've deposited (by a lot) so it was a good decision for me. As long as you've calculated in a chance they won't pay out it can be a +ev move to play on US-facing sites. If you can't afford to lose the money you're playing with than it's not a very good idea though...

How do you calculate that chance? It's more of a gut feeling than any actual %s

It's actually quite safe and makes business sense, so it's really no more a leap of faith than giving a site your credit card number. The major US facing sites all use foreign wire processors, so you're going to be given a foreign name and address, big deal. These sites & networks aren't in the habit of scamming deposits from US players, that would be cutting their own throats. They received a pretty major boost in US traffic when the big 3 got shut down to US players, they'd be suicidal to kill the goose laying the golden eggs now.
