Lately are aggravating the laws that respect gambling, especially those that are online, by the great evasion that suppose to be their pages hosted in tax havens like the Cayman Islands. In addition, as already mentioned, the game control that is wanted to be done to safeguard its citizens from "vice".

In any case, the most affected are us, the occasional players who see the hobby as a secondary means of support, but only the future will say that it holds all this.

Recently China has announced that it will ban online poker and now I have just read on CardsChat an article about the German treatise on the end of online games. In this article, he highlights the performance of PokerStars with DVTM, to fight against this deal.
The treaty aims to prohibit betting online and allow only horse races, this in my opinion is a bias, because if it is then prohibited to prohibit everything.
It's just the state to identify players online and collect taxes from these players, it would be better, since the games generate revenue.
this world is slowly becoming a global police state...............time for an uprising......

I think as players we must be honest with ourselves and others by acknowledging that Poker does destroy some people. For those who have no skills in the game, and do not study to become winning players, it can be just as destructive as roulette or blackjack (for them). There are people with a people with a concealed gambling problem who hide it in Poker knowing they can defend their activities as not being purely chance. This enables them to continue their addiction without ever having to face that they have a problem. This is a Zero sum game. For every 'great day' we have at the tables, someone else has just had a miserable day. It's important to remember that. Don't get me wrong, I love Poker and wouldn't be here on this forum if I didn't. But as an aspiring professional player I have to acknowledge the danger it presents to some people, and the destruction it brings to their finances and sometimes their families and friends.
Governments who have a large number of people in their country who are hopelessly addicted to certain gambling games feel it is their duty to protect people from themselves. Some 3rd world ish countries have the technology to provide the Internet and computers needed to play online poker. Unfortunately many participants will not have had the same quality of education or common financial sense as others. They tend to be quickly defeated by more privileged opponents who have access to more resources. But we have to also admit that Poker can cause severe social and financial issues when played by the wrong people. No one wants to admit this or even say it because there is a conflict of interest in doing so. The best players know that their profits come from other players mistakes. So it wouldn't do their bottom lines any good to begin 'protecting' these weak players from themselves. And that's why you'll rarely ever hear any pros giving an opinion on this issue. A moral objection to weak players being targeted and exploited could be one of the reasons for a ban.

Now lets respond to that by asking why that same country hasn't banned tobacco and Alcohol if it cares so deeply about its people's well being? The very simple answer is TAX. Every country makes billions from smokes and drink in taxes. Most online Poker companies and providers are registered on desert islands in tax haven countries, to protect them from losing money to revenue. I think one of the main things that gets Poker banned is the tax issue. The main issue they have with it is that it's providing a way for money to LEAVE their economy without being taxed or circulating around again. This isn't a problem for countries with a high number of winning online players because those players are bringing money in! Which then gets spent there. But gambling sites could be a big problem for countries with millions of losing players as that money isn't coming back and their country already can't afford to lose it. Another reason is that some countries have religious and moral objections to Poker and other gambling games, but my gut tells me this is mainly a tax and business issue

Overall, I think it's a personal choice to play this game or not. And should not be interfered with by governments.
Absolutely... but to your point at the end it is definitely a choice and one which freedom indicates should be allowed to be made by the individual

Restricting access or consequences doing it aren't bad things to do.. banning the entire thing... just for poker, it'll help to create home game so the problem will be just moved anyway... I think... I don't know how it works there.

I have to damit, I find big the dayly amout of deposit I can do on all site I play poker.. I can't imagine myself make so big deposits.. Withdrawal, yes :D but not deposits!
In canada they made it more difficult to access to lower chanches. It's affecting credit score and noted in our credit file if we use our credit cards on online gambling sites so we have to use other ways to make deposits. Sometimes it can take 1-4 business days :p

But at a point, they aren't fouls, the lottery incomes become gains and you have to contribute to the budget anyway.. so they find a way.. that's for those who stay here after a big win

Our gov. here is monopolising gambling and lauched an online gambling site here including poker. Guess what? Only true credit cards are accepted. No gift cards, no electronic tranfert and you also have a privilege card linked to your account so they can really track everything you play, onvline and in their casinos and bring it back to your face anytime!

If you build it..they will play

While the word is that players in the U.S. are losing interest in online gaming, I am of the belief that if you build it..they will play. State regulation is fine but pools need to be combined. I think there is a lot of hope for the future of online poker but as usual, that requires the U.S. government to make an actual effort.

In my country (serbia), something like this is already in force. most banks do not want to allow players to play poker. It's very difficult to make money and you're even harder to pick up a potential win.

And there is the question : "Was that the world we wanted"? Would be awful if they ban online poker in every country. Some people don't participate in live poker and they only play online, becauses it's more comfortable playing when your at home. I don't have nothing against to pay taxes from my poker winnings, but if i don't cash it out and theres no extra income to my bank account from poker, why pay taxes then?

The government does not need something that they cannot control and receive taxes. And players rarely pay taxes from online poker.

but I think this news will not upset them. They have long been playing in their rooms within China, and not only in poker. The Chinese are very gambling people. probably the Communist Party wants to control it

Legalize Online Poker

I enjoy playing online poker. It is fun to play. Even when I don't do that well but play a good game I'm satisfied. It should be legalized. Marijuana is legal in many states, why not online poker? I suspect there is not enough money to be had by the government for them to get involved.

My opinion

I really don't know the impact of banning or keeping money poker. This is since the government has spent a long time trying to perfect the perfect human for the country and poker could stand in its way. You know how money screws up everything. The one thing I think is a good idea is playing for the government. This is because the government can raise you if you fall in love and poker is a good job witch the government should support. Like supporting the Olympics.

it's incredible how the government is smart, it tries to rip people's money anyway, but it's not necessary to ban the online game, they could let our online players live our lives in peace. Why take this fun? I would not like it if online poker were banned from brazil.

I'm convinced that live tournaments are better than playing online. You can go there with friends, have fun, and meet new people. Plus Live is another thing, because then you see the people against you Plays.:)

what governments should do is legalize and control poker. if say a state in the US would create and run a poker site that anyone in US could play on. they could regulate the site so everyone, except those conspiracy people, would know its fair and safe. They could tax the winnings and pave the streets with gold. poker sites are a money maker.

Why are many countries against online poker? I don't understand that. I am only for the development of poker in the world.

Lobbying, casinos have expenses and they pay so no one can run gambling but them
