Daniel Negreanu: "Bank of America Closing All My Accounts"

Daniel Negreanu, who has earned over $32 million from live tournaments during his career, announced recently on Twitter that he is having some major problems with Bank of America.

According to Negreanu, Bank of America (one of the biggest banks in the United States) will be closing all of his accounts, since he has deposited too much poker-related money in them.

It seems Negreanu is not the only poker pro who has had problems with the Bank of America, as Doug Polk revealed, that he had a substantial amount frozen 1,5 years ago for 2 months:

Believe me, banks want your business. However their legal departments might interpret US laws differently, which results in differing bank policies.

In the case of Colorado, its because the selling of pot is a Colorado law and the banks have to follow Federal law. One result is that you cannot use a credit card at a pot store. The result is counterproductive (for the government) because cash is not traceable, but credit cards are easily traceable.

I'm surprised he doesn't bank with TD Bank...it's an American/Canadian bank I believe..

Originally a Canadian bank (their 2nd 'Western Canada' branch was actually in the town I reside in 'Rossland, BC' & was opened in 1899).

It was originally the Bank of Toronto (1856) & in 1954 joined with Dominion Bank (1871).. becoming the Toronto-Dominion Bank.

In 1962 'TD' would have a new office located in downtown Toronto & would be the tallest building in Canada! The bank began to explore international oppurtunities in the 60's & developed a network of US representative offices.

In 1969 they adopted a new logo TD green & 8 years later came out with 'The Green Machine' (their first ATM).

International operations go into full swing in the 70's with a bunch of subsidiaries opened in the U.S. (& the U.K. & the MiddleEast).

In 1999, TD completed a purchase of 'Canada Trust' (for $8billion).

That's kind of wild. I think it might just be an issue with BOA as I had some issues with them too, completely poker unrelated. I found that they use computer generated algorithms to detect fraud as a measure to secure users accounts, and the odd depositing and withdrawing of large sums of money might have just set off their system. Most people in business with large money transactions do everything in checks and wire transfers. Maybe Daniel does a lot of cash in and cash out which confuses it.
