That depends on everyone, I myself can only play very seriously when it's worth real money, because that way I value every action I take more!💰💰
I play freerolls a lot and I don't ITM very often. But like you, if I pay for low or mid stakes poker I can often make to the final table. I consider using money as just part of my entertainment budget and when it's gone then I play more freerolls.

Personally, yes, I have played a lot of freerools and I think I have evolved a lot and I still have a lot to improve.

i think you can learn the basic with freerolls or no-real money, but if you really want to learn and expand your game you need to play real money.
I agree with you 100%. But i would take it a step further and say not on micro stakes poker either, both MTT and cash. When you play low to mid level you see the game tighten up, maybe more ABC poker. I actually get ITM more in these games. My problem is bankroll management and tilt which are whole different topics!

In my opinion no, because playing for play money is not as useful as playing for real money. Yes, in the beginning you can learn combinations, but this is not enough to learn how to play for real money in tournaments or cash games!

Oi,
Play freerolls and satellites for real money. The mistakes and bad experiences themselves will help you improve. Always notice the mistakes made when leaving a tournament, often the pre-flop allin will disappoint you, even if you have the best hand. Don't think you'll get very far if you depend on him alone. Be aggressive. Beware of the 'tilt moments', they can play a tournament all over the water. One hour the prize will arrive!

You can progress without betting your own money, that's why Freeroll tournaments exist, the more you study, practice and learn about the game and your opponents, the more possibilities you will have to win real money and start building your bankroll.

I play for fun more than money playing freerolls and the freebies on GG. Can spin up real cash without putting any money on at all. I’m £342 in profit on party and have only put about £100 in 5 years

I believe that if you don't play real money, it's difficult to know if you're a good player. The strategies for the fictional game will certainly be very different.

Hi,
I am not a good poker player, but I like the game and want to get better at it. Currently I am playing on free poker apps like WSOP that don't require you to stake actual money, as I just know that I'll probably be a fish as soon as I start playing online tables that bet real money. However, I am noticing that these games are not very satisfying, with there almost always being players that just go all-in preflop and then just buy back in. Is it a realistic goal to try and get good at poker without betting real money, or is it necessary to bet real money to get proper practice as people are actually playing with something to lose? Also curious as to what people think on what the balance should be between studying poker theory, such as calculating outs and pot odds, versus just playing the game to get better.
You can accumulate a bankroll in freerolls, but to progress, you still need to play paid tournaments in my opinion. My opinion.

Yes I think you could improve significantly playing free games
And indeed I would recommend beginners to prefer it

Yes but online play money poker can be fun if you don't mind that it is crazy -- the thing is that people sometimes treat real money the same way but when the BB is only 2 cents some people treat that as play money too so is the only "real" poker high stakes?
