playing for play money is not a poker. What's your one of the first thoughts when you think about poker? it's of course money, because poker is a money game. If you can't lose anything then it kills another big poker aspects. It's a psychological aspect of this game. Most people just don't care because they can't lose anything so something like fold equity doesn't exist most of the time. Play money just doesn't contain many technical aspects of this game. Play money are good only to learn the rules of this game.
If you have a plan to play poker for money then just avoid play money games because it will teach you many bad habits and you will take a lot of time to fix them.

I do not take playmoney seriously, as many players put allin on any cards, so the interest in the game is lost. I think it would be more interesting if playmoney cost some kind of money so that the players are not so willing to throw them around.

I play all poker games seriously, my biggest weakness is sometimes I play games I am not 100% happy playing, MTTs for me are a big turn off now, but that is how you get started playing Free-roll MTTs and progressing into real money games.
Play money allows you to make mistakes that do not cost you anything, and as long as you understand that some players treat play money games differently and will be indiscriminate in how they play, and you get an all-in fest right from the start, once the dust settles and the over aggressive players are knocked out, you start to see more serious players rising to the top.
Play money also allows you to experience different formats of Poker, I had never played Omaha until I registered for a game by mistake one day, and found I made all the rookie mistakes, thinking I had a flush with a bare Ace in my hand, and thinking 4 of a kind in your hole cards was a winner.
Over time when I realised I was playing wrong and I got into playing Omaha I found I enjoyed it more than Holdem, and now play the occasional ring game, but as Holdem is more popular I can get on a table in seconds rather than wait for an Omaha game to start.

When the fun Stops, STOP!

я считаю игру на виртуальные деньги не серьёзной, так как там почти все ставят не понятно с какими картами без попаданий. Идут в алл ин с 2 7 разномастными и так далее.

I don't play for play money, unless there is some other reason to play. (e.g. The league game, or the pairs game).
Just playing for play money is pointless becuase people never have a reason to fold, may as well call as it don't matter anyway.

I usually take playmoney games seriously. On the one hand because I am a competitor and I like the competition and the challenges, on the other hand I think it is a relatively good method to stay sharp and to practice. Unfortunately not all players take this seriously but but that is ok for me. Real money games are still more exciting though.

Play chip poker is where I've learned most of my "skills". I have played millions of hands on poker stars using the play chips (because Americans are not allowed to play real money poker on Stars).

Without the play chips, I wouldn't be half the player I am today. Yes, it's kind of like riding a bicycle with the training wheels on, I know most say "play chip poker isn't real poker", and while I agree with that to a small degree, I think it's throwing the baby out with the bath water (to use a cliche). It's still poker, even if it isn't the toughest, hardest, most competitive poker ever. It's fun poker, sure... but I still learned so much by experimenting, trying different moves, and it also taught me how to read players, how to take effective notes, how to adjust to "crazy loose" players, etc

You can learn SO MUCH from play chips, and it is FREE. Good lord I will never understand the people who avoid it like the plague. Why? Don't you want a place where you can try out different strategies without losing any of your precious bankroll in the process?

I love Poker Stars, they run ALL the game (I love to play Badugi, for instance, and there isn't another poker site in the world that offers it except Stars). Perhaps other play chip sites do suck, but Stars is THE BEST.

Curious to know...Do you take playmoney games serious? Or are they simply a way to play like you don't care? I sometimes find myself playing them more seriously than real freeroll games or micro-stakes.

Generally, I use them for practice, but sometimes they are the I DO NOT CARE what happens game...come to think of it...so are those cash games from time to time.

Sometimes FULL TILT happens no matter where you are.

Hope it is not on the bubble or in a big cash game.

suitable for learning the basics, but not really for more.

It depends. My interests do not go there, but it's a great way to learn or just plain ol' enjoy the game.

Personally I stay away from them for fear of developing bad habits. From my experiences on play money tables players tend to play reckless. After all, it's just play money and they don't care if they lose it. They are going to think twice if it's real money they are faced with losing.

I try not to play with play money at all, it is difficult to learn something in such games, since people do not have seriousness and many play all in with any cards

As always, I prefer people to speak for themselves rather than others.

You don't take play money seriously - fine. Others do and you will find thousands playing seriously at Reply every day.

oh no!) this way of spending time only spoils the game. as soon as I started playing for real money, I forgot about the play money. I tried it a couple of times and realized that this was a completely ugly game. But first, I learned how to win small tournaments with play chips. and when I plunged into the world of real poker, I was confused.) and at the moment I’m just learning and learning, gaining hours and skills.

I haven't played play chips for years, but when I did play I took it seriously cause I wanted to win tournaments. I take playing any poker seriously, only cause I want to win. Since I have been a real money player , I take it serious. Play chips are the right way to play, so you can learn the game well.
