Is it possible to make true friends at a poker table?

I think it's possible but would never be the norm. I agree with earlier comments that doing so online is extremely unlikely. In a live tournament you could sit next to someone for a couple of hours. And there is a ton of downtime when not in the pot or during dealing. Once in Vegas I sat next to Pam Brunson for a couple of hours. We got along smashingly. I'm sure we would have become great friends had I lived in the area.

I really have a lot of such friends, they live in different countries, but we are all fans of the game of poker) and we easily find a common language, discuss the game, share information about freerolls, and talk about who cares about in this life.

I think it is possible to make friends, but personally I'm not having a huge interest in making friends at the poker table to hang out with. I don't mind seeing the same people at the casino table and enjoying a chat with them while playing.

In my case, I find it hard to achieve a solid friendship at a table, that is why I like to vary the casinos where I am going to play. So they have no chance to meet me and I feel calmer when I am in new environments.

I think that it is definitely possible to make friends at a poker table; however, I think that it is very rare. people are always trying to angle you at the poker table, being friendly with them will help them get more bluffs through, or possibly make you call with looser hands.

I think so because several times I have noticed that they start to talk while playing online poker they wonder this or that and they have a good time .. there is also the other opposite side in which they take insults in the middle of the game because of the ways in who develop their game and win strong hands with middle hands that improve on turn and river

You go to a bar, for a drink. You end up having a conversation.. There are a lot of places to meet people. If real friendship occurs, so much the better. At poker, there is the friendly game, for a few drinks, some pizza and a little entertainment. You are already friends, poker is an aside.
Haven't made many friends among my competitors at a serious money poker table. It's mutually exclusive, the first rule of poker is you don't have any friends at the table; everybody for themselves.

I made 1 good friend at a poker table. And this woman usually would beat me in hands I played against her. I respected her tournament poker game so much I tried to learn as much as possible from her. And in the process we found out we had lots in common other than poker. So naturally we became friends.
