I think it is said that you make new friends at the game table, considering that you play for real money. When it comes to money it is harder with friends. Yes, I agree that you make friends but only if you play on chips and not on money.

Absolutely possible. Juts like it's possible to make friends in other spots no one would think of. There's a show called a Million Little Things....characters became best friends when they got stuck in an elevator. Ya, it's a show...but I'm sure stuff like that happens all the time.

Players on the table are different. Some of them do not talk at all, other talk rubbish to try to tilt people and some try to be polite and extract information about you which they can use in their favor. There is also group who are there to socialize and relax and do not care about the game at all. I personally am ok to speak with somebody about general topics as far as it do not distract me from the game. I do not exclude the possibility to meet another player on the tables who have similar interests to you so that you become friends out of the table. If you meet somebody only during poker games and he pretends to be your friend most probably he tries to use this in his/her favor.

Of course you can make friends, it depends what you expecting from a true friend...
I always think, what's a good friend.
But wherever you go, you can make friends...

i met some people in an online poker room these days we are almost RL friends only problem we live in different states and it is hard to meet but on social networks in poker rooms everyone plays together and cheers for each other at some final table.

You sure can. I don't see why it would be different than anywhere else. As a matter of fact, I consider some of my poker buddies friends now. As long you are not gambling your life away with them, I don't see how it would affect your play decisions.

Met some good people at the poker games but it also attracts less savory people and narcissists so have some boundaries that command respect, keep loans tiny, and dont bother with people that dont reciprocate in kind, no matter what they say.

I think out of the tables can be a friend, but when you're playing, are rivals. It's good to know to help you, you know it too.

I haven't personal experience but it's possible I think.You need separate the game with human attachment .If you meet only someone on the tables he is not a friend but you can make a friendly conversation which is good though

I have personally made several friends at the poker table. I now play a home game with a couple of them. And one of them will be in my wedding next summer.

Yes but its hard because there is money at risk and sometimes ego battle..

With my friend of poker i make a deal everytime before tournament starts, i told him if i knockout him , he have some money back from me if i cash and viceversa.

Thats a good strategy for the friendship to go on

i learned the hard way that there are no friends in poker, my former best pal taught me that. i played a few times on a table that he was on and i didnt want to go against him even if i knew i had better cards, but he didnt feel that way amongst a couple of my other pals, they all go against me at the tables. later i realised they were no pals at all, maybe its just me and i have lousy friends never the less, when i play for real its just the game for me since that experience

I never had. I made acquaintances, but nothing more and I am rather fine with that. Obviously it is possible if perhaps in some ways a little bit harder then in other areas.

some people get very angry at others at the table

Friendships are formed anywhere including poker. Sometimes friends do not like to play at the same tables. Enjoy the game, friends will happen on there own do not force the issue. Have fun
