I learned over 20 years ago when I was a child; maybe, 6, 7, or 8 years old. I picked up the hand ranks from that card that comes with the jokers with a new deck. Some one, maybe my father, showed me how to play once, and I played by myself after that. Poker was still kind of taboo back then, and I don't think my mother thought it was appropriate if I played. So, I didn't have too many people to play with until I found out my extended family played.
In my teenage years, I had a lot of older friends and disposable income- so I played more and more with them. After that though, I kind of went through a dry period where I wasn't playing as often.
Then, the Texas Hold 'em revolution happened. And, EVERYONE is playing poker everywhere.
I didn't get on-line though until a few years ago. It's a different experience, but I've found that I can focus and improve my "
odds game". There are few distractions. I don't have to focus on the player. Just my hand and the board.
