I learned to play in bar poker leagues actually. I still play those tournaments sometimes but I'm more into online play and the card clubs now.

I learned to play by watching poker on T.V. I then decided to give a shot at online poker. I live close to a casino and started playing there. I have grown to love poker.

I learned how to play at home games, by losing lots of money. But now I am pretty good. You have to lose money before you can start making it.

I learned watching wsop but did not perfect it until I actually play in person at the casino. Online has really improved my game though.

where did you learn to play

OK in my family poker was a given. My dad was an avid player(my first 5-6 cars were actually his poker winnings as was my 4 brothers and 1 sister and 1 house we lived in) so we all learned at home. My dad switched between cards and HVAC to make a living.:p I considered myself a decent player (only played backrooms and never casinos) untill i decided to take it online. I now know I suck and have much to learn. So now I am actively trying to relearn my game.

Poker came into my life online at Ultimate Bet when a bowling buddy of mine said "download UB and we'll sit and play at a play table together and just bull shit".....I did that and had no idea of how to win at this game but after about 10 hours a day for about a year or so, I started getting pretty good and built up about 10 million play chips then found out that players were willing to pay for play chips on eBay so after I sold about $400 worth of them I re-invested that money back into the site and have never looked back. I make most of my money to pay for everything playing poker online.

Funnily enough, I learnt to play online, using a tutorial I found on holdempoker.com quite a while ago... since then I've progressed from playing with play money chips onto real money.... also playing some games for some decent money with friends. How about you? Where did you learn?

From my Dad, when I was 7 or 8 years old. He was an excellent draw and stud player, but his favorite game was an old one called Pitch that I haven't heard of anybody playing in years.

Honed over the years: first with family (our family reunions always have poker, pinochle and crib games going), then with friends, especially in college; the Army; and finally in poker rooms when they finally legalized it in Montana. A poker room in Great Falls was the first time I ever saw or heard of a wierd game called Hold 'Em.

Pitch is actually a game separate from poker with very different rules. My family has played it for as long as I can remember.. it's also called 'setback' and can be played with partners or 'cutthroat'. I really love this game and have tried to convince my buddies I play poker with to give it a shot but it's kind've tough to learn the strategy at first and a bit hard to teach also. There is a computer version of it called '3D pitch Deluxe' that you can download a shareware version of at random sites.

Hmm, I learned texas hold'em from a cousin. Then I donked $700 bucks at full tilt, where I learned that I have a serious tilt problem. Then I finally learned to play more solid poker when a shark made fun of me at sportsbook poker.

I learned simple 5-card draw from my parents: it was one of those camping card games we played, among Gin and others. I learned Hold'em when I was pretty young, about 12-13. My first true tournament was at a friend's 14th birthday, we played for like 4 hours and whoever had the most chips got $25, 2nd got $20 yadda yadda. I got 2nd in that tourney (behind the birthday boy, figures :p), and that is where it began. When poker showed up on TV, I began watching it, along with playing with friends more often, mostly not for money. I started sorta playing online with playchips a year ago, and I have been placing higher and higher in freerolls (we are talking the last 2 months or so). I'm not exactly sure where this will lead, but we'll see. I greatly enjoy the game for the sake of playing it, and I will continue to do so until it doesn't. :D
