I wanted to see how good a player Ben Affleck was during that whole Bennifer saga lol....I flicked on Celebrity Poker Showdown and said to myself these people are horrible. THen I caught the 2003 wsop reruns and said to myself. I can do that. Mind you I knew nothing about poker really except for having played strip poker in college while drinking!! I used to play a bit of pinochle in my twenties with and old boyfriends family and was pretty good at that. Hadnt played any card games in years though.

Bought some books, dealt myself out a bunch of hands, studied the game from WPT and WSOP reruns.. Started play money play last August, real money play in September on party poker (cashing in first tourney).. Since then I have won 5 tournies including a leg of the online poker Tour and a Ladies Night on Poker Host and lots of final tables and cashes largely in freerolls or $5.50 MTT's. Slowly building a bankroll with minimum investment...

Yesterday was my 6th month anniversary as a CardPlayer.. I love the competition and the game...

LOL would you believe from a teacher in high school?

I guess the world was a different place *mumble mumble* years ago.. ;)

I learned to play at a weekly nickle/dime/quarter 3 raise limit game held at my fencing coach's house during high school. My parents wanted me to get out of the house more and would stake me $25 and buy me a six pack of beer and send me off to learn the ways of cards LOL yeah, I had interesting parents.

Anyways, that was oh... a long long time ago, and poker's been a part of my life ever since.

I learned how to play at the gold dust in deadwood, sd. I had a hundred dollars and sat down and decided to play in a 4-8 game. I won over a six hundred that night off of blind luck because I didn't really know what I was doing and the rest is kinda history on it but Ive done lots of reading and playing since that night.

Learned to play

I think I learned to play after watching the 2002 Wsop on tv. I was not even aware of texas holdem before then. Of course I knew of the other basic poker games such as 5 card stud/draw and 7 card stud as I played them with my family.

I learnt to play poker at a young age, with family. I then learnt to understand the game much better online. Online poker is great for just starting out. I also learnt many different varieties of poker online. Such as & card stud, omaha, 3 draw. I wouldn't have learnt these varieties without the online poker.

I think the best way to get started on poker is to learn the basics of the game with friends or family, then understand and expand your mind of the game in online poker rooms. You can learn really quick, it's easy, and a lot of fun.

the first time i ever played poker was with some friends at a keggar :). it probably wasn't the best environment to start, but as an introduction it wasn't bad i guess since i won. i am sure it was a beautiful combination of luck and drunkeness (of others). lol

I taught myself how to play

Through home games i developed a winning style, it seems to work online and in live games at casinos.

Private Home Tournement

I played (Holdem) the first time in a private home tournement. I only remember Two hands from that night. One I had 4 sixes, I slow played it and the guy I took out had a full house. He was a little bumbed to say the least. Then I remember the last hand, the hand I won the tourney on. I had The big slick and the flop was A K 8. I checked and he went all in. Of course I called, He showed A 2 and the turn and river were no help to either of us. I took down the money. It was very fun and I am hooked on this game now. I just want to learn and play bettter all the time.

By My self!

I learned to play hold-em about 3 1/2 yrs ago. My mom deals at a cardroom in town, and told me to start playing. I was intimidated to play live at first, so the first year I was self-taught online. I then started 2-4 cash games, and entered my 1st live tourney....the regions $45-ultd rebuys limit event, and placed 4th to cash $750...not a bad 1st experiance. Now I'm still self taught, and very well versed in limit/no-limit hold-em; omaha Hi; Stud; and Razz. Not to bad for a guy who didn't even know how to play Rummy, or Solitare. LOL!!!:icon_thum

I learned to play the hard way. My friend invited me over n we decided to play some poker. I sort of knew how to play but not well enough for money. 2 hours and years of peer pressure later i saw myself in a 20 dollar torueny. Well by the end of the night I had lost 60 bux and learned how to play. Tough price to pay? U decide
