I only started playing poker (Hold 'Em) seriously about a year ago, and really really seriously probably 6 months ago. When I first started I would watch it on TV and my older brother taught me a lot too. I've never read a book on poker either, but regardless of this I do pretty well currently on pokerstars
at the money tables and at their SnG's. I think I just picked it up slowly by watching other people play and playing for real money and losing. I think this helped get me started cause I didn't want to lose money!!! That's a pretty good incentive for a poor college kid. Basically every time I sit down at a table, every hand I play -- I look for something to learn. Win/Lose/Draw I take some little inkling of knowledge from each hand and eventually I got pretty damn good (I think). Maybe one day i'll make a living doin' it.

PokerRoom.com, only because I could buy in for $10. All the other sites were $50 and I didn't want to spend that much. That was almost a year ago. After having a little success, I realized I needed to study more if I wanted to get better.

My first poker experiences I was very young. My dad would come home from work and sit and teach how to play poker his way. Later in life I learned his way cost me money. Now I use my own techniques along with his basics of the game.

I learned the basic of the game by watching pokermillion on television, then i went to the book store and bought "winning poker for serious poker" the only book they had that seemed interesting about the game. Then i bought the Super system of course and then Play poker like the pros (yes i'm an Hellmuth fan) From that i played online and a few home games !anyone heard comments about the new hellmuth book btw ?

I found myself watching the wsop on espn last year. And yes the $$$ caught my attention also! Watched how the game was played, played online, bought some books, bought a really nice table-chips-cards-etc...., have people over every friday. From 5-6 people to around 20-30 come over now. Even got some places to host some big tourneys(around 75 people). Plus Moneymaker is from around here, so everyone knows about the WSOP!!!

I'm playing poker (live) for about 4 years now, but just for half a year online. I llove to play it live because it's a beter feeling, but also online is OK.
I learned it from a friend who was very intrested in it and bought some books about it, after that I read some of them and started to love it.

I learned poker via the internet. You can find so many different articles about poker. Unfortunately I haven't played live in a casino yet.
Here in austria it is hard to find a casino, that offers hold'em tables.

I started playing at my fraternity house, and to get an idea of how situations played out, I watched online games a lot when I began. I didn't start playing online until about 9 months after I had been playing, but I think it's definitely a good tool to use for the beginner to get an idea of common hands that win, etc.

When I wanted to expand my game to stud and triple draw I did that too. Played in free tournaments, etc. first to get an idea of the action.

I learn to play 5 card draw poker as a kid...

Learnt 7 card stud poker on the Super Nintendo game "Vegas Stakes" as a teenager...

And I started to learn Hold 'Em from the UK show Late Night Poker..

Been to Crown Casino in Melbourne a couple of times to play their "Learn to Play" tables... The dealers are great for strategy ideas, unbelievable... :)

I've just got back into poker because of the WPT, they showed an event sponsored by Ultimatebet.com and the rest is history...!

I first learnt the game of poker by watching the world series of poker on television. I had watched the shows for about a year because of the excitement and intrigue, but never played a hand of poker. Until a family gathering arrived one day and a big poker game took place. Everyone underestimated me because it was my first real poker game, but I already understood all the rules and concepts and the rythym seemed to flow naturally. I even imitated some of the playing styles that the pros used on tv. I won big that day and have enjoyed poker ever since!

"bounced" into it

A bar that I bounce at started having free tournys twice a week...bar staff was offered 50 to deal to the tables(about 4 hours) the tournys took off and they started having them nightly...it is ran real well, we had tux shirts and everything, the bar owner, who also owns an entertainment shop taught us what we needed to know, so I learned poker watching others play

I learned on tv like most other ppl here. I then would have 5 frnds over and have 5$ by in tournaments. we played for fun but it got kinda boring because we figured if you have money involved your going to strategize youself and not go all in with pair of 4's....

I am self taught through my many poker books and real life experiences. I own 7 poker books that I have studied and used to be victorious.

On doyles room I won 5 5.50 sit and go's in a row. In other words I don't suck.

I believe that everyone is constantly learning about the game and that makes for increased competition for the carp sharps like me self.

I began playing poker after I saw Mel Gibson in Maverick. I instantly was hooked on the game of poker and began playing poker as early as age 9. I've been playing ever since :p and trying to avoid the Maverick Complex

I learned to play poker at a very young age by my mother and father. They taught my brother and I how to play and we would play at least once a week for pennies. I guess gambling was just in my blood. I have been playing poker at home games most of my life but only learned Texas Holdem last year on line when Club Dice started their trial mode. I enjoy it thoroughly and have met a lot of nice people on the site.
