i was at last years superbowl party 2004 and I watched everyone playing and I joined in and fell in love with the game. I've also watched the wsop and WPT before that so i had some idea of what I was doing.

I'm just like nearly everybody else here. I hadn't even known of Texas Hold 'em until I saw a documentary on cards and gambling on the History channel in 2002. Then two years ago, I saw the WSOP on ESPN and was fascinated. I watched probably every episode that year. Then, I basically taught myself the fundamentals, and turned to playing games with friends and playing online to learn the tips, tricks, and general experience.

Interesting story for you (well not really). About 6 months ago, I was still mourning the loss of my favourite tv show of all time, Friends. I was flicking through the channels one night, and I saw Matthew Perry was on 'Celebrity Poker Showdown'. So I watched it to see if he would make any of his usual wise cracks, which he did of course, but I also picked up the game that is texas hold em.

I had a friend that I worked with who invited me to his home game about four years ago. He said they were playing No Limit Texas Hold Em freezouts with $10 buy ins. I didn't know what any of that meant. He then went on to tell me that his wife would be cooking for the guys and that he had just gotten a big bag of some REALLY good weed. All of a sudden, everything made sense. That was my introduction to the game.;)

....

me and a couple of my friends seen rounders and decided we'd learn how to play and started having 2 dollar tournaments each night for weeks...it was fun and exciting when you got those crazy match ups against your friends and you get to learn how to bluff and play certain hands and position when you're playing such low pots...

rounders and shade really influenced me as far as movies...

and then i started playing at truepoker and now pokerstars...

...still willing to be humbled and to stay a student of this crazy a ss card game lol....i learn something new everyday it seems like...

no wonder it's the cadillac of poker!!

I remember watching the 2002 WSOP on ESPN and not knowing what the heck was going on. By 2003, I understood how to play Texas Hold'em, but didn't know a lot of strategy. I've mainly just learned through experience. Nothing can beat hours at the table, playing with a variety of types of players.

I started watching the 2003 W.S.O.P. on ESPN (rooting for Moneymaker) and finally got high speed internet so I decided to download party poker and give it a shot. I learned there and against friends at small home games. Watching t.v has given me the most insight into what's a good hand and what to throw away.

My dad. Started playing cards and betting on horses and greyhounds when I was about 7 or 8. By the time i was 12 I had a casino I ran out of my bedroom. LOL Had blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, and 5 card higher/lower. Not bad for 12 huh LOL. Played home games of 7 card stud when I was a teenager. And the rest as they say is history.

My brother-in-law taught me and my wife how to play Holdem a couple of years ago. We used to play it 4 handed over at the in laws house then we started playing 4 person tourneys for a $5 buy-in and I have been playing Holdem online for about a year now.
