I recommend starting with freerolls until you get a good feel of the play and your abilities.

I think it depends on the player. Also its about the finances.
My opinion is that the experienced players prefer to deposit, insted to try couple of times to start a bankroll with Freerolls. I think you have to be experience enough to start with some freerolls, instead of depositing small amout and multiply it.

so hard to deposit money..

I keep trying to use my visa card and the card company keeps refusing. I have paypal but I'm in US so US paypal wont deposit to poker sites. Sigh.. I am forced to get started with freerolls. Its like a minefield to make any money in those, but finally won three bucks..

I took the 3 bucks and played in five cent, 11 cent, and 27 cent Sngs.. This is on BetOnline. Ive turned into 17 bucks. Its been a fun two weeks.

What I'm trying to say is, if you are in the US with such limited options, at least the freerolls can get us playing online again. I really missed the past few years of not playing online.

Poker

If bankroll then do not go to tournaments which you don't on your bankroll, and better play SNG 0,25 to build up a bankroll

If you are starting, start with free chips to play at home with your friends, learn and study, play freerolls, you'll gain experience there then make a deposit and play! That's my opinion.

Finnish pokerstar Jens Kyllonen started his poker career from online freerolls. Sounds unbelievable that he made from 0 to millions of earnings. :D

would think the aim of playing poker

if your aim is to try , unsure. start from freeroll
if your aim is to max your win, I think need to deposit.

the other consideration is your efficiency of playing poker.
which means wining rate per hour

NL2, 12BB/100 hands looks beautiful
but would say on the amount if far worse than
NL400, 2BB/100 hands

same time rate, NL400 2BB/100 hands is about 20 times larger than NL2 12BB/100 hands.

I was purely live player till 2003. Somehow got a email from americas cardroom and they had a tournament on fridays 400 chips to start a freeroll think was 50 cent rebuys and add ons. I actually won my first tournament it had a stipulation had to sports bet 3 times your winnings fully to get access to that money. So I bet footbally initially i won like a grand after the football bets I was over 5000 dollars. This wound up paying for my entire poker career. I never deposited until recently last month with acr I wanted the offer they had on jackpots 20 days of one jackpot a day for free.

I dont like ring or anything like I do mtts but im very good with ring play and can build a bankroll from pennies on up which ive done over and over.

I was able back in day to use that 5000 to finance and play on over 50 sites at one point and continue to play and win freerolls. Now I still play freerolls daily with some mixed in mtts. I usually ring at am time zones when run out of games. I like to play 6 games at a time.

Each persons path is different is no one way of doing things. Just be wise and to handle variance imho you need to play more rooms or games especially more then one site and this should make you if your a good player profitable over all.

I would start with freerolls and if there are some tickets available to tournaments then use them.

Well, if I had spare money, I might deposit some, but as I don't I play freerolls atm, but they are quite frustrating, as so many people play poorly and like a maniacs, so I would definitely prefer playing in some micro buy-in MTT's. But hey, if you ain't got spare money, you gotta get there the hard way. :)

@CSINSC what does the deposit show up as when you deposit? The fraud department calls asking if I'm buying random things like women's clothing and hardware and I say no cause thats not what I'm getting but is that ignition's way of getting the deposit through?

Freeroll or not

The best thing with freerolls is that you will never feel the pain of losing money.
If you are playing to make money, it is not the fastest lane. But if you play to have fun, it is risk free. And you totally can create yourself a bankroll with freerolls. Just manage your subsequent money as if it was important money, not freeroll money. you should be fine. Then again, if you lose it all, who cares. Try again.

I like to play frirolla as it is an opportunity to try the hand without risk to lose cash. The excellent atmosphere when you play tournaments and it is possible to play well. If it turns out it is possible to win to play on low rates. It is of course the Internet of casino and a game on money very strongly differ from friroll. At the same time sharks who sometimes eat small fish are found.

Some very good advice on here. Most important would be your finances and if you can even easily deposit in first place. Freerolls are great but its alot of grinding for $2 lol. I know I personally have more fun if first pays out atleast double digits. ($10). :)

What about pre-paid credit cards? Is that what your visa is that wouldnt work?

Depends how paitient you are.Freerolsl dosen't provide you a big win.Once i played 4hrs for just 0.6$...but at least i ejoyed playing. You can start with 10$ is not such a great amount of money and if you keep a good bankroll managment (and win at tables of course) i will be able to cash out same money :D

I started playing freerolls years ago at Score Poker, does anyone remember them? I've built some bankrolls off of the freerolls as well as various forum prizes. I've made enough to make some withdrawals and with that money I've made some deposits to take advantage of some of the deposit bonuses. I probably could have made more, faster, if I had started off making some deposits with my own money but as a family man I just didn't have the desire to take the risk. Poker is mostly just a hobby for me, it's a fun way to pass some time.
