Sometimes it's very difficult to keep emotions

real live poker and online poker are two totally different games
When I first played online poker, I was very nervous
Later, I began to understand the difference ... but still I sometimes get nervous again :D

Good question! It depends on the person and that it accumulates with experience

It's pretty hard. But without controlling emotions - winning poker will not come.

Try to meditate before the tournament begins.
There are many techniques of meditation and I am sure you will be able to find such a technique that will allow you to remain calm.

If youare talking about rage and anger you 100% need to get rid off it. Thats the first thing that leads to you being broke because of poker. You need to shut it out completely.

Without emotions in poker, you can not play it, and it's interesting, but you need to restrain them a little.

You have to constantly remind yourself to think about things in the long term and not in the short term. Most people love the thrill of winning a big pot in the short term, but what you need to understand is how much variance plays a role in your short term results.

As far as practical things are concerned, the best thing you can do is once you lose a big pot just stop playing and walk away. One of the hardest things you can do, but just do it. Take your anger out on something else that isnt poker because you'll end up saving a bunch of money and you'll be able to come back with a clearer mind.

Also only play on a full nights sleep when you are mentally awake and alert. It's WAY easier to go on tilt if you are tired. That's my experience at least.

I agree with everything you told me and I am developing my strategy day after day. Thank you:D

There will always be emotions but the key is to keep these inside.

Its not possible i'm afraid..

Reactions will happen...sure you can suppress emotions, but you will pay for it in the future.

What do you do to control the emotions in poker?
It's very hard to control emotions in poker but in my opinion is essential to control emotions when you play poker especially if you want to win some money.:tomato::playingba :five:

Not sure how you would aggregate the data for the question the OP ask as it would have an infinite about of variables. All I can answer is you really need to separate the emotions from the game as it makes you less profitable.

Any type of gambling results in some kind of emotion. Its really heard when you get bad beat after bad beat, but in the end it can't control how you respond to the rest of the game. Breathe deep and keep at it.

How to play without emotion

I think playing poker you shuold be emotionally distract. What helps me to be distracted? Of course TV and music. The risk of watching TV at the same time of playing is to miss the worthwhile hand. ooops, and the time to make a decision is over while you sitting with open mouth infront of TV box. I prefer to listen to music because it allows you to watch the table and at the same time to be immersed in a pleasant melody (or in thrash metal:p).

I think that a lot depends on the game, when I play poker with my friends at the casino, I'm very worried and it really gives me away. and when I sit at the computer and play for example in the automaty, then no one sees me from the competitors, and accordingly I am calm, and I have more chances to win.

It's very difficult to control your emotions when you get a bad beat where money is involved. I agree to just keep doing the right things and math will eventually go in your favour doesn't stop it hurting when you get 300 BB in with aces and get cracked by tens though!!!!

Very nice thread! Tilt hits me instantly when I play and that prevents me from doing any meaningful volume. Wish I had some answers to give and there are some good suggestions here. I currently play about 180 BIs for SnGs and am thinking about dropping down further. I am a bad loser and I think if I could find out why, things could change. Totally understand the Wild West stereotype of gun fights over poker games ;-). Good old days...

If you use math then it takes emotions out of the equation.

See what I did there ? lol

After you get through the "what do I think he has? what do I think he thinks I have?" leveling - the math prevails.

If you are isolated preflop then your opponent often has approximately 30% with his bad call.

If you are three to the flop then you are often flipping with the other two guys' bad calls. And one of them might hit!

Also I never take it personally. It's almost never personal LOL.....Oh, he smashed the flop? - well great - I needed the action to make more chips.

Good luck !

Comedy Gold.

I also agree, learning the probabilities and principles behind hand ranges preflop, learning the equities and odds postflop, really take the guesswork out of it.

The more you know about Poker, the less you can take it personally.

Still, anyone can get on tilt when some dumbnut takes the pot repeatedly when he shouldn't. But that never lasts.

To control their emotions you will help itself game, I mean many game, over time emotions go. If you are too emotional you should not play poker, it is better to choose a different path.
