To be successful at poker takes a lot of the same skills as beingsuccessful at anything. You have to apply yourself and it takes time, effort, energy and discipline. ... Poker takes long term thinking. A good player can lose in a session or for a very long time.

I think it's a matter of perspective for whom what counts as a profitable game. I usually charge money once a month. I'll turn that in when it's double the winnings.... If 1,000 forints more is a profit... Isn't it?
At the same time, when I win a ticket or a few euros on a freeroll, it's also a profit. Actually, it's 0... And if I take it up, it'll win even bigger.... So the question is, to whom does what constitute a profitable game?
Of course, some people make a living out of it.

If I didn't tilt, I would definitely be a profitable player.

We really never know if we're a winning player or not. Most of us ASSUME we are - for myself, I feel that the only true measure of "winning or losing" is our bankroll. If the bankroll goes up consistantly over a long period of time (years, not months), then we can assume that we are a winning player. But... it is still entirely possible our success has been positively influenced by positive "variance" (statistical variance from the norm)... and conversely, if we lose money for years, it should cause us to assume we are not a winning player... but this bad streak could still be the result of negative variance.

So my long answer in short is that we can never really be sure if we're a winning player or a losing player. For me, I use my bankroll to determine the answer as stated above, but that's certainly not the only way to judge it, there are likely much better ways, analyzing other statistics... but for me this is how I do it. And so my anwer is... yes I am a winning player, I have run zero dollars up on multiple sites into a very healthy bankroll, starting from freerolls and then using those small winnings to cash in larger tournaments and trying to snowball my way up the mountain (against gravity LOL). So far, for the past couple of years, I'm well into the positive... but it could certainly still just be variance from the norm. We can never really be sure. :)

As a recreational player just playing for love of the game, I am up a fair bit over the last 15+ years. I have made several small deposits over the years in the $100 range - usually just to chase a poker trip like PS Carribean adventure. But my 'big' win cashes happened years ago (like $3,500 at UB and $8,500 at Carbon Poker) so I have probably put $1,500 back into sites recently and out the window! It seems that bigger fields and more knowledgeable players make it harder to win big scores anymore. So I'm a losing player now I guess but still enjoying the play.

100% YES!

I am a profitable player, and I have a Bankroll to prove that, I have never deposited on any site and built up small Bankrolls on several different sites and then used the free-roll money I have won and built up my bankroll's even higher.
So my Bankroll's are all 100% pure profit, how can they be anything else? It is these type of statistics that I can also say I don't like to Gamble, because in order for you to be a gambler you need to put money up front on a wager, which I have never done playing on-line poker.
Sure in a live game I have, but I didn't start playing live games until I felt comfortable enough and felt I could possibly win. I have played in many live tournaments at different venues like Pubs, Clubs and casinos and when I have been eliminated from the tournament I would sit down in a cash game, and play while I waited for my friends to be eliminated.
I sometimes won more money from the Live cash games than my friends, who sometimes made the Final table and made the cash prizes.
Texas hold-em Poker, has many variations and each one has to be approached in a different way, MTTs, Sit and Goes, limit games, no limit games, Zoom and cash games all have to be played with a different approach, and when you can switch your playing style to match the different styles of game, then you can start to play profitable Poker.

When the fun Stops,STOP!

The only people making money off of my poker playing are the poker websites . . . I play for fun and entertainment. I guess I do profit from the entertainment the game provides me making me a happier person.

No, not really. But that's not even possible for me because I don't play enough. You have to play a lot of hands to even out the variance in poker. That is difficult to do with a normal working day.

Igen, nyereséges vagyok. Nem vagyok profi, de kis mértékben jövedelmező vagyok. Szórakozásból játszom, és következetesen visszavonulok.

Welcome my friend! :) Would you describe in more detail what I need to do to be a profitable poker player?

I would like to know if someone is profitable on limits excepting freerolls and if you become like this for to be a CardsChat member.

Depending on the format (MTTs, Cash, SNGs, etc.) the % of profitable vs unprofitable varies.

For MTTs (on the Chico network) roughly 20% of the players are profitable (80% are losing money!)

Remember this when you receive advice on "how to play." ;)

The second part of your question is simple. By being an ACTIVE CardsChat member, your game will improve significantly. We are all here to help!!!

I'm profitable, but not professional yet. Learned a lot with Cardschat 30-days course too.
