Is it for fun or money? Often we think it's for one but our actions say something entirely different. If both, how do we balance that?:wavey::D

Over time, the motivation for playing poker changes. It is equivalent to changing the perception of the game itself, its results. It's fun for me right now. I used to try to earn money by playing poker. Unfortunately, it didn't work out.

Hi all!

I play for challenge, fun, spend time, win ... but I can't deny that money is an outstanding motivation. If you join, enjoy and win is welcome. :dancing2:

Thanks greetings :icon_sunn

I only ever play for fun, I always choose sites that offer free-rolls and that is where I start, then once I reach $50 in winnings I will buy into 10 and 20 cent Sit and Go's until I make $100 then start playing the 50 cent Sit and Go's eventually working my way up to the higher stakes.
But to be honest I really do not want to go above $5 buy-ins on line as I cannot read players that easy through a computer screen.
In live games I will buy-in for anything up to £25, but do not relish the Idea of losing 100s or even 1,000s of pounds at a Casino.
A friend once told me of a £500 Tourney that was coming up and offered to stake me into the game, I declined because I would be more worried of losing his money, I would not have played well and lost the lot.

I play because it is a hobby to pass the time. With the issue of the pandemic, there were several weeks that I could not leave the house, and I went back to playing poker online, but I am lying if I say that it is not a dream to be able to win a little money that would do me quite well.:cool:

I play because it's a hobby, picked it up watching ESPN wsop back in the days.
Nowadays I am learning a whole new level of poker that I didn't know of, a lot of game theory, strategy, etc, and thinking about start playing for money.
At GG Poker you get a 0,25 USD daily free spin, and have been playing on that site for the past 2 weeks, it's free so can't hurt if I lose, that way I pick up some experience in the process.

For me it was a mix of both. Fun and socializing and self confidence about feeling good that I had a legitimate skillset. From there... the money and the high of winning definitely took over.

It's great that you are questioning motivations, and know that it's ok to have both working for you :)

I find it very fun, besides that, you can really improve many skill for life, like attention, people reading, decision making, strategy, and so on...

And if that is not good enough, you can even make money with this, so, where is the reason not to play?

Some people are fanatical about football, some rugby, tennis, cricket or some other sport. Personally I am fanatical about poker.
When I was younger I loved all the sports I have already mentioned, but to be honest about it I was only fanatical about any sport I could take part in, because I have always been a do'er.
I have to be able to play the sport in order to be interested in it, But as you get older you cannot do the things you used to so now I cannot run or compete in any sport, so I concentrate on Poker.

And I love it.
