You mean other than finishing well I assume, while I try not to bluff a lot since I strictly play mtt at micro level I really enjoy pushing aggressive players off with nothing or really beating overly aggressive players period. I also enjoy a good conversation at the table while most OLP players are the silent type it does happen on occasion. This is one of the several reasons I play more at chico sites than any other its the only u.s facing site where this is possible.
I also - usually enjoy - the chat conversations on BETOnline and Sports Bet. It'd be nice if the other clients had chat features like they do.
Friendly suggestion - consider increasing
bluffing frequency, even though you are playing at the micro level. Although the common suggestion is not to - if bluffing is not included in a players arsenal it is difficult to make a deep run consistently.
Over the past several months I've been thinking a lot more broadly about certain spots, what would I do here if I had 2 pair, can this player call down here with only top pair with so many draws coming in on the river, could I overbet here to make it look bluffy when it isn't. Bluffing has to be included in a players game - or value is being lost on a consistent basis.
I like the game but sometimes I get crazy when I lose a strong hand against junk cards. Especially if this is nearing the end of the race and that's how I fall out.
I know the feeling all too well. Best to keep a level head. Just yesterday I was just outside of the top 10 in chips, nearing the money bubble. I opened in EP with A/Q suited.
only caller is BB who is the chip leader at the table.
Flop T7Q rainbow. I value bet 1/3 pot - planning to get 3 streets here.
Big stack shoves ?? OK - whatever - I make the call.
Big stack turns over 7/4 and the river brings in another 4, because ?? OK - you got lucky - good luck making that mistake against me again. I just shrugged and closed down the table. Dude was wreckless and got lucky - that is all - I made no mistakes in that hand - so there is no reason to get upset by making the correct decisions.
i really only get pleasure from going deep in tournaments....last 50 maybe
I've been feeling more and more lately like FT is the only pleasure I get - when considering earning money. It is pretty demoralizing to spend 3+ hours playing an event - only to see the
bankroll increase the buyin amount x2. Yeah - it's not a negative sum, but I guess my expected return on playing well has increased lately. Probably misguided, but lately - I've been playing strong poker, and just missing FT.
Here are things I think make a great game. A good table of people, some friendly chat(although not too much to distract from paying attention).
Freezeouts. Keeps people playing like they have some sense and not jackassery just because they can buy back in mulitple times. There aren't enough freezeouts though.
Things that make a game suck: someone at the table with an ego. Although this can work to your advantage, I still can't stand them.
People sucking you out because they are gambling for the rebuy/re-entry.
Rude dealers. There is one in particular when I play at Hollywood casino in St. Louis. Coming real close to calling the floor manager on him.
And kind of redundant, but I think rebuys/re-entry ruins the game. But can count myself as fortunate that I never had to rebuy or re-enter(at least live anyway).
More things I enjoy, just simply the game in general, watching other players. Even if I don't get an opportunity to use information I gain from watching, its still interesting.
I also enjoy freezeout event. I've found though - the largest field of players - that provide big chip donations play exclusively in rebuy events. The freezeout events go against their "tendencies".
Interesting mention about rude dealers. Can you expand on this? What types of actions are rude from dealers? I've never played live - so this is interesting to me.
Yes I agree watching other players and learning how they play is very interesting. I was unconvinced timing
tells, and player tendencies could be learned by observing online play. Now with a tiny bit of experience under my belt, this is one of the key elements of my strategy.
There are a few moments in a tournament, making me feel good.
Making a good read and win a difficult hand.
To reach the "hand for hand" process and to survive it of course.
Thereafter reaching pay jumps, final table and finally winning a tournament.
But most improtant for me is not to bust because of foolish bluffs or moves. I'm feeling good after knowing that i wouldn't act different in this situation.
I know the feeling of a foolish bluff as well. Just yesterday the flush and the straight came in on the river. I was only holding middle pair with an OK kicker, so when the lead player bet out 1/2 pot - I jammed knowing he should not call in this spot with only top pair.
He called with top two pair, so yeah bluff gone bad.
