A lot of traffic on this site deals with feeling bad about certain aspects of this game.

I got sucked out on when I was winning.
I got bad beat.
I got it in good and lost on the river.
It's rigged!
Bots
I lost my entire bankroll in less than 4 hours.
etc etc.

I'm interested in finding what unique aspects of this terrible/awesome game - players find enjoyable.
What are certain aspects of the game that are euphoric?

I play tournaments exclusively. Generally I really enjoy playing the game of poker. Even with all the negative stuff that every player has experienced, even when getting 2 outed on the final table bubble, even when my Aces up boat gets destroyed by quads - I still really enjoy playing poker.

Certain aspects of the game bring greater enjoyment to me - much more than just the general, every day enjoyment I get from playing the game.

I receive great pleasure from
1. Winning hands vs passive, slow playing, trappy players.
2. Making an instinctive winning hero call on the river when the math say I should fold.
3. Folding a strong hand A/Q+, 99+ preflop and not regretting it.
4. Correctly avoiding the temptation to shove on the flop when I flop the nuts.
5. Making a crying call pre/post based on notes I have taken - and being correct.
6. Collecting chips from and/or busting players who play overly aggressive.
7. Of course final table.
8. Of course - finishing top 3.

What are some aspects of the game that bring greater pleasure to you - beyond the general enjoyment of playing the game?

I agree with everything you say, winning is the best feeling, it's such a crazy high when everything is going your way.

Other things that keep me feeling good while playing: The right music, sometimes binaural beats, deep breathing, drinking tea (sometimes) and making sure to move around and stretch on breaks, it's important to stay calm and relaxed.

When you feel your best you play your best!!!

taking out, riding the rail..

It's enjoyable when after folding to a early stage bully, chipping up enough for when he tries to bully shove later in the tourney, you have the stack to confront. Win or lose, it's nice to see a bully sweat out a hand; no easy money.
It's also enjoyable to hang around, catch some consecutive hands, and get ITM.

Like you, I love poker. All of it, running good and bad.

I really enjoy the challenge to perform my best. I appreciate when I have studied a certain aspect of the game and recognize a scenario when I implement the study into my game.

sometimes binaural beats

Hey Evan.

You are one of several people I followed & learned from for nearly one entire year before playing my first hand of poker last year. I kinda know you. LOL

Beyond you teaching me quite a lot as a fresh rookie - I now know what binaural beats are!! :icon_rr::cool:

Thanks for providing quality content that is available for newbies like me.

I feel good ,when I am playing a tournament for hours and:

1. I gets in the money
2. Reaching the final table.
3. Everything works you way and you are all in, and 4 players sees you, and you win the
monster pot. And you suddenly are coming aware that you need to breath again.:)

You mean other than finishing well I assume, while I try not to bluff a lot since I strictly play mtt at micro level I really enjoy pushing aggressive players off with nothing or really beating overly aggressive players period. I also enjoy a good conversation at the table while most OLP players are the silent type it does happen on occasion. This is one of the several reasons I play more at chico sites than any other its the only u.s facing site where this is possible.

Making a big fold. Like pocket kings, queens or aces in a big a pot and it turn out to be a good decision.
Going deep in a tourney and finishing in the money.
Winning a monster pot .
Winning a monster pot by bluffing with weak hands.
Winning a big pot by slow playing a maniac who's got position on me.

When I know that I played good, no matter what outcome is, win or lose, that is what make me feel good.

A successful match of cards in my favor raises my mood during the game.

Nothing better then pushing around a table for a while in a tournament with aggressive small-ball, then finally getting someone to fight back and ship with a marginal hand, and you call them down with a monster.

I sometimes enjoy listening to music while playing cards. The best feeling for me is when i go on a winning streak though. I especially get excited when i get pocket aces preflop.

I like the game but sometimes I get crazy when I lose a strong hand against junk cards. Especially if this is nearing the end of the race and that's how I fall out.

Here are things I think make a great game. A good table of people, some friendly chat(although not too much to distract from paying attention).

Freezeouts. Keeps people playing like they have some sense and not jackassery just because they can buy back in mulitple times. There aren't enough freezeouts though.

Things that make a game suck: someone at the table with an ego. Although this can work to your advantage, I still can't stand them.

People sucking you out because they are gambling for the rebuy/re-entry.

Rude dealers. There is one in particular when I play at Hollywood casino in St. Louis. Coming real close to calling the floor manager on him.

And kind of redundant, but I think rebuys/re-entry ruins the game. But can count myself as fortunate that I never had to rebuy or re-enter(at least live anyway).

More things I enjoy, just simply the game in general, watching other players. Even if I don't get an opportunity to use information I gain from watching, its still interesting.

Can't stress this one enough. Even if I go out of a tournament on a bad beat, I know I played better. Bad luck happens.

However, those handing down the bad beat just need to shut their mouths as if they outplayed the person they got completely lucky over. Happened to me in a live tourney. Guy said, "you think I was kidding around??" when he got a miracle card on the river.
I was about to say something when someone else called him out and said, "dude, you had no business in that hand and were playing lottery poker....you didn't outplay him"

More players need to learn humility and be humble when they are caught with their pants down and the deal of the cards bailed them out.

The thing that makes me feel great at the poker table - even more than taking down a tourney - is if I make a great read and hence either make a correct hero call or make a fold where the villain would have expected to get extra value from me. Both of those are rare occurrences in my game, especially the latter since it involves either a third player being in the hand and taking the villain to showdown, or the villain voluntarily showing his cards after I fold. When they do happen, though, I feel really good about myself!

The final table feels so good, but winning in the end is really the best feeling!
The thing that makes me feel great is the same thing I hate the most, that's when I went all-in and the other person is ahead, that I still hit that card and win the pot. If it happens to me, I feel great, if it happens to the opponent, I freak out. :p
And as soon as I'm in the money, I start feeling great and calm as there is nothing to lose anymore. :)

The most amazing feeling for is is reraising a player that I know is beating me and make him fold, showing the bluff afterwards.

Making a good bet that is called on the river when I know I'm winning the hand. This is one of the great things about poker to me anyway.

There are a few moments in a tournament, making me feel good.

Making a good read and win a difficult hand.
To reach the "hand for hand" process and to survive it of course.
Thereafter reaching pay jumps, final table and finally winning a tournament.

But most improtant for me is not to bust because of foolish bluffs or moves. I'm feeling good after knowing that i wouldn't act different in this situation.
