Hi guys, 2 am here, i was playing a tournament like 6 hours, and i won some money, i would like to ask what is better play tournaments or cash games, i mean in a cash game you can lose or win money so quick meanwhile in tournament you have to be patient and win all the chips you can , some of the gratest players dont play cash games and they just play tournaments why? i woul like to read your answers,ty.
hands down Cash is the best to play.
If you're going to go forwards with poker as a form of making a living you have to use cash to pad your roll in between the longer downswings in tournaments. Unless you get good enough that you can either use twitch streaming, coaching, selling a book, dealing, to supplement your expenses. Or get staked and charge markup while keeping your expenses and losses low.
Everyone says they either don't like cash games or are afraid to play cash games because they can lose so much money. I mean... not really, the same way you can re-buy into a tournament you can reload in cash. There is literally NO difference other than the blinds never change in cash.. Maybe because some people don't have discipline and chase losses.. but I mean if you don't have discipline when it comes to your money you're gonna chase losses in tournaments as well. No difference in playing 01/.02 cash game buying in for $2 or playing a $2 buy in tournament.
Tournaments are more fun, but not more profitable. I feel like recreational players like playing tournaments because it generally last a few hours and the alluring possibility of the big prize at the top. It's all smoke and mirrors really the top heavy pay out structures of tournaments is terrible generally causing horrible win rates per bb that can be cured by playing cash. Also the fact that by defying the
odds offers life changing money.
You said some of the best players don't play cash games they just play tournaments.... like who? You may only see them playing tournaments because tournaments are mainstream and televised, also published results. Cash games are not as mainstream and the results are generally private. I assure you though the majority of top players play cash. and High stakes cash at that. If you watch older productions like
pokerstars the Big game, or the loose cannon or Poker after dark the cash game, check bobby's room, or Macau, or go to any of these series like the
wsop and see how full every cash game table is or even the newer poker after dark the cash games that are on poker go you will see all the top tournament players playing in these cash games. You will have most of them that "specialize" in one or the other but they still play both because they understand you need to supplement your roll through cash and hope to bink a few tournaments a year to stay afloat.
