I think poker doesn't exactly follow a pattern. A little luck, skill, game reading, analysis of players at the table...

You have to be good to be lucky

I have lost track of all of the AK hands that I have lost to AQ or AJ. I make the right plays and it seems that luck isn’t on my side the majority of the time. I then see other players in similar situations- and it plays out well for them. Sometimes it feels like a conspiracy…. Maybe I should be a shareholder in some of the platforms used….

Poker is the fairest game in the world, 999 times out of 1000 you lose with the best hand. This is not an exaggeration.

Ask any good poker player if they're willing to risk their tournament on a 10 to 1 scale and they'll say, "Yes!" Everytime. The question is simple, do you say yes to this proposal every time? If yes then you understand the variance and you will reject the logic of luck.
Also, you realize that if you sit at a poker table with a spirit of gambling, you are doing this voluntarily.

Short term luck, long term skill.
That is why even biggest crushers will play only for small aprt of their BR. To eliminate luck, keep just skill.
(also it will help you to actually verify you have skill and not just luck)

I can tell you that, according to the Canadian Government, poker is classed as a game of skill, and can (but only certain circumstances), tax you on your winnings. I'll leave it at that, because, in canada, poker is in a very grey area of the law.

It's both, but I have a feeling that without luck, one cannot win no matter how good his or her skills are.

Luck will always be present in every sport, but in the long run the best will always win, in poker it works the same way, in the short term you may not get the things you want, sometimes the variance will not be in your favor but at the end of the month you will always come out in positive if you are a good player who studies his game a lot and shapes very solid and profitable strategies, that is why poker is one of my favorite sports.

I think it is necessary to have skill to get the most out of moments of luck

Base on the player

For shark it's a skill, for donkey it's a luck... Flop, turn and river tells the story, how the player response to each cards, calculate outs percentage... To complex to put it in one word.

Luck is what you make with the guts you play with.
Skill is clearly shown with Consistency.
