It depends what you preffer.

Cash games gives you the freedom of play any time and sit out when you want, and tourneys have a more strict game time, specially MTTs, they can take hours to complete, Sit n Go are faster to finish, its like a final table at MTTs, but its not that simple.

IMO Cash games are harder than tourneys, MTTs have a lot of recreational players, and Sit n Go are hard too, more regs, maybe not in micros. So, for me, tourneys are more profitable and maybe easier for a non professional player, but have that strict timeline that sadly doesnt allow me to play them right now (im right now in a hard job that just allows me to be online few hrs per day), and im not playing so much poker, right now i just can play cash games or spin n go, etc.

:D:D:D:D:D

Another thing to consider is the bankroll management, in cash games you can start with a 30 buy-ins bankroll, and MTTS have much more variance, so, i recommend to start with at least 100 buy-ins if you want to never break.

There are some other aspects to consider when choice a format, but that are the most important points for me.

Hello
Indeed in a matter of having a quick profit you can generate a greater resource as you could also lose it much faster, I consider that this will depend on the available time you have to play. I personally prefer the cash game because I don't have the time for long tournaments.

I find tournaments to be more of a challenge mentally and rewarding when you cash for it shows skill and good management. I do play cash also and do quite well but I just don't enjoy playing cash as much as i do tourneys!:D:D

I think it is better to work out the theory in the cach. And you need to go to tournaments when you know the theory well

I think the real question is between high stakes, low stakes, no stakes (free rolls).
It does not matter whether it's a tourney or cash game if the players play the same way.

I have always felt that it is the size of the stakes that drive players' play.
The more skin in the game leads to more responsible and intelligent play.
Just look at how stupidly crazy so many players are in free rolls and very cheap cash games.

Having said that I really do like the entry fee in free rolls. And the profit margin when you win is always 100%.

3-time bracelete winner Doug Polk say online poker tournaments are the top 1 in variance and the last way to really raise your bankroll in this game. Cash games demands discipline and method, more skills = less variance.

where do you find the best return...cash tables or tournaments?
I seem to be making the most money on low level cash games in a shorter time that it takes me in a mtt, but I wonder how you all get on.

I really like reading all the comments to these questions . Everybody on this thread is obviously a "crusher" , they describe how they can win at whatever they play whenever they want LOL Love it, that is why Poker is here forever!! First if you really need to ask someone else to pick what format of poker you should play, I say play more and you will find out what is best for you. If and this is a big IF , if you are a winning player at both MTTs and cash games at the stakes you are playing its pretty easy to figure out your hourly which tells you where you are making the most money. NOW - if you are wondering if 1 or the other will improve your poker game, BenCB - one of the top high stakes MTT regs playing these days , likes to jump into the $500 Zoom player pool on pokerstars which is a very tough place to win, many really good cash regulars , Ben thinks it helps his post-flop game to battle with these guys. This helps his main game which is the Sunday Highest Stakes MTT's . I think if you are just a recreational player you should play what you enjoy the most. :D GoodLuck

I prefer tourneys online and cash in person. Live tourneys often feel too slow for me.

I don`t like cash games as not all start with the same money or permanently rebuy which is hard for me to handle when those ones play with a lot of pressure.

Who not both?

You need to see your strong points and improve it. Its hard to say it if only you know you game style.

I much prefer playing cash over playing tournaments. Cash is much more convenient in terms of being able to join and leave whenever you want to. Also, cash has significantly lower variance than tournaments. However, I hear live tournaments to have huge value. I think a mix of both of probably best.

Low limit cash games all day. Get up when you lock in a profitable run, get up if your luck starts running bad to keep you from falling even further behind. Tournaments tend to be more feast or famine; 90% of the tournament players will usually go home with nothing.
