And here's how all of my AK hands, suited or not, have paid off. It's a very profitable hand for me! :D

I prefer any pairs rather than AK suited. Mostly the AK holder hit nothing from Flop, Turn , and River if doing preflop all-in situation against any pairs from online poker!

Most of it is. But not for me, more worse is AA. On AK much more to expect.

You 3-bet preflop so you should narrow your opponents range to QQ+ and AQ+, if he raised you over the top on the flop he has almost always got a set or an overpair.

Yeah this is why I hate 3-betting AK in ZOOM, it's just so nitty you are only ever gonna get a call from really premium hands which is why I don't ever 3-bet AK in ZOOM. In fact, I just hate ZOOM in general, I have such a higher win rate in normal FR and 6-max tables.

i'm loving zoom just had a 0.80c losing session on a $17.6 ev adjusted session, not fun but still sustaining a pretty decent win rate there and loving the volume i can put in 6tabling that shiz at 2k hands per hour :D and to update the thread AK is now a winning hand for me, i realise now that it is and should be a winning hand and when i made this thread i was a bit of a dumbass to put it truthfully.

Well from experience,

AK is a above-average pre-flop hand.. the chances of it winning are quite good.. but personally it's not a hand which will always win.. it's 60/40 with me.

I win 6/10 hands with AK.. however I tend to raise 1/3 or more of my stack with this.. to make most of the other people fold pre-flop..

in the cases you have shown above. the main thing is to keep an eye on your opponent and analyze his style of play.. does he call often with crappy to mid hands? or is he too tight and calls only with top pairs and premium AA/AK hands only?

like that 66 hand.. that guy seems like someone who isn't too tight.. and is very aggressive.. he got lucky that he got a hit on the flop and shoved it.

Honestly I think sometimes I prefer AK over AA as long as no one has AA :p Reason I say that is exactly like everyone said. AK is a drawing hand. It is a winning hand though and should be a winning hand for you. Does that mean we have to win every time? No. Does that mean we have to call the whole way to the river? No. Just like any other hand in poker you also have to read off of your opponents and putting them on a range. I see all to often people get either over-aggressive with AK or too passive. So really the question is what is the right way to play AK? Well take more into the hand then just thinking "OH wow I have AK I gotta win" instead relate to, table positions, any raises before, how much of a raise, relative stack sizes etc. Remember you're not just playing the 2 cards in your hand. With that being said, I like AK but you also have to remember if you flop an A or a K it is still only TPTK. So also be prepared to lay it down if you suspect someone hitting a set, two pair, straight, etc. TPTK is good, but not the nuts how much you people want it to be.

Huhwhat? That's not profitable at all. So if you're at 100NL, you raise to $30 or so? Obviously you gii if they push. That's awful strategy with AK.

yeah looking through a lot of shoving at flops with nut flush draw and overcards seems to have done me in, also floating a lot of dry boards for one or two streets with just ace high when villains have pairs in there range..

And here we have the answer....

AK is overrated.

Depends on situation-can be tricky-they don't call it Big Slick for nothing

I will say it again. OOP shove or call with AK. If you miss the flop OOP just give up on the hand entirely. If you flop a gut shot don't fall in love with the hand, many people just can't let go of an AK gut shot. Yes you always have 6 outs with AK for TPTK but many a times you are in a dominated position chasing that. So if you have a gut shot that doesn't mean that you have 10 outs to win the hand.

IP make a big enough 3 bet that it would be a tough decision to call for your opponents.

If you are the open raiser and miss the flop then deal with the hand just the same way you deal with any other hand after missing the flop.

Never over value the strength of AK (esp. AKo), and do not play this hand too aggressively against rock players. Even if you hit A/K on the flop, you may still much behind sets and 2pairs and just slightly ahead of flush/straight draws.

Btw...Please fold TPTK when facing reraise on flop below NL10. You are really behind and folding will save your much loss than you expected.

If you're losing with AK consistently I think you're overplaying a missed flop, and playing your flop/turn too slowly/giving too good a price when you do hit.

Remember, if you miss, and you think you're most likely up against a single pair, your odds are 25% to hit. If you're playing a TAG you're likely looking at a bet on the turn as well.

If you hit, check out the board and see what kind of draws or speculative hands are out there. AK is what people tend to be wary of, so checking isn't doing much for you. Better to make the opponent pay to see the next card and either get value or take it on the flop.

5NL 24 tabling, so basically I'm not likely to be thinking much.
Now get out there and win with AK
