I have read thread and come up with no explanation. I can say that this is not uncommend. I can also say Sportsbook has a horrible reputation especially from its sports betters. Belonging to several merge sites is not an issue as I belong to ten playing several different ones daily. (I did read that you only belong to one.)

OP,

Just a thought, but have you tried sending them ID documents (a scan of your drivers licence/passport and a utility bill or something)?

"Security and verification purposes" makes it sound like they are waiting for something like that to be sent. Perhaps they want you to send ID stuff in but are too idiotic to, umm, actually ask you straight out for them. Either just send the documents or try sending them an e-mail asking them if that's what they're waiting for.

Rob,

(Hi! Where have you been!?)

I'll make a thread in the mod forum about this in due course should the ID thing come up blank. While there remains the chance that OP is either lying or witholding part of the story (I said I'm inclined to believe him but it's not beyond reasonable doubt that something dodgy has gone on) or the chance that this is more an issue of their support's incompetence in asking for ID documents than anything more malicious I would suspect (and personally recommend) that we'll keep the links up.

Should the ID thing come up blank I'll see what we can do about getting a Sportsbook rep in here to answer the OP's (and our) questions, which I think is a better course of action than just nuking links left right and centre.

But why wouldn't they tell him that, rather than tell him there will be no further correspondences on the matter. And if you get a rep in here I belive it would be better to have the OP and maybe a few mods and possibly Nick the only ones talking to them asking the questions, otherwise it could turn really ugly LOL.

You underestimate how completely incompetent some support staff are.

Admittedly re-reading some of the mails does make it seem less likely that it is just a documentation issue but still, it's something that's worth checking.

Didn't realise OP had joined site same date as first post so? Link from site says that site is US only, but looking through terms and conditions it only looks as if Singapore and Australia are excluded?

Not U.S. only. This from their site:

LEGALITY

All bets made on Sportsbook.com, in the Sportsbook.com Casino or the Sportsbook.com Poker Room, are placed over the internet which reaches virtually every country in the world. Some jurisdictions have not addressed the legality of internet gaming, some have specifically legalised internet gaming, while others may take the position that internet wagering or gaming is illegal. In practical terms, it is impossible for Sportsbook.com to determine the state of the law in every country, state and province around the world on an ongoing basis. Therefore, by clicking the "I agree" button, you are acknowledging that it is responsibility of each individual to determine the law that applies in the jurisdiction in which he or she is present and that accordingly (a) you have determined what the laws are in your jurisdiction; and (b) it is legal for you to place a bet via the internet and for Sportsbook.com to receive your bet via the internet.

And for the OP, who was wondering where Sportsbook was out of:
Sportsbook.com is incorporated in and conducts business from the country of Antigua and Barbuda.
http://www.sportsbook.com/info/houserules.php Scroll to the bottom for the passage above. But in that same link page, it says they only ask for your address when you first deposit. Also says:

MEMBER'S ADDRESS

It is your responsibility to ensure that we have your current address on file at all times. You may only have one address on file at a time, and this address MUST match the billing address of ALL cards that have been used in the account. Any failure on your part to do this may result in an audit on your account.
Before making a deposit and to avoid unnecessary delays in processing your payouts, please make sure your address is correct and that it matches bank records. In the event that we are not able to verify your account information you may be required to submit additional documentation for this purpose. This may include the following:
  • A photocopy of your picture ID (e.g. Driver's License, passport)
  • Photocopies (front and back) of your credit cards
  • A credit card statement or utility bill
  • A credit card verification form
  • Imprint of your credit card
It says nothing about requiring that info beforehand or they will close your account and seize your funds if you charged the deposit on mastercard.

Calls are free from the U.S. http://www.sportsbook.com/info/contactus.php - don't know about the int'l #. Probably just for deposit issues. Have you tried the 'click for live help'? Might be less likely that a live person will give you the bums rush, like their email support.

Thanks Divebitch :icon_thum

LOL - How can I ensure if they have filed my address correctly??

I did give my correct address (doh) and yes it of course matches my credit card.

Dorkus, I followed your advice and sent another email, directly following on your post from last night (about 14 hours ago).
You can see it below. I have not had any kind of a response yet.....

I thank you that you are inclined to believe me.
I also get your position exactly.
Yes, I could still be lying. True. I respect your position.
I also had no intention to start any kind of a war between this forum and one of its sponsors.
I actually, honestly, did not even know that you had links with Sportsbook at the time I first posted. I just dove in and posted.
In your position I would do the same (i.e. nothing yet) based on one unverified report from just one poster (me).
I would wait until you see at least one other such complaint from another unrelated Poster first.

If you can get a rep from Sportsbook to comment on this - great. Because that's exactly what I have failed to do in all my efforts so far.

I am just going to leave it at that now (at least for the moment) because this has basically cost me a lot of time and energy, its also real busy for me at work at the moment.

As I said I can let the $100 go. I prefer not to, but it's not the end of my world. It was an explanation that I really wanted the most. And to highlight the way this site has shabbily treated a brand new customer and withheld their funds (and ignored their own terms and conditions regarding refunds).

If Sportsbook can prove that I have cheated, colluded or attempted to defraud then I will personally issue an apology to them and a public apology to every reader and contributor to this thread. That's a guarantee I will stand by.

If I get any response from my last mail to them, then I will post here.

Thanks again everyone. Great support and advice. Appreciated enormously.

Dear Support,

Could it be the case that you require me to provide you with some verification of my ID and or home address? I can happily provide you with scans of my passport, drivers licence, and a recent utility bill and credit card statement.
Can you simply tell me if you believe that I have done something wrong? I understand that you cannot disclose details regarding security, but if you believe that I have done something wrong, or attempted to do something wrong, then please simply tell me.

I, my name, solemnly state that I have only ever attempted to open ONE account with Sportsbook poker (this account) – and in fact have not even attempted to open another account with any other poker room on the Merge Network.
I have not attempted to conceal anything, or attempted to deceive anyone.
No-one else residing at my home address has attempted to open an account with Sportsbook Poker or any other poker room on the Merge Network.

The payment method for my intital deposit was Mastercard, which is personally issued to me and remains in my personal possession and has not been misused and is not stolen.

I would very much like an opportunity to clear this matter up. Please let me know if there is someone I can contact (or who can contact me) regarding this matter.

Thank you

Regards,
my name

I don't think I could be any clearer, fairer, or more polite than this?

Not U.S. only. This from their site:
Sorry, by "link from site" i meant the link from Cardschat. The Cardschat page https://www.cardschat.com/sportsbook-poker.php says twice that the site is US/canada only

Unlike all of its competition, Sportsbook Poker is one of two poker rooms that exclusively accepts US and Canadian players and does not serve any other clients.

and

Sportsbook Poker (www.sportsbook.com) has instantly become a popular poker site that ONLY accepts US & Canadian players and features probably the weakest competition of any poker room in the current market

The page gives site 9/10 for banking and 9/10 for support. :)

My girlfriend is here with me right now. For background info (I really don’t like to discuss personal stuff, but here it’s required) - we actually just spend weekends and holidays together. Through the week we both live alone in our own places.
We live in 2 different cities 85 miles (130km) apart. In Holland, if it makes any difference.
My girlfriend has a PP account and plays occasionally during the week. I know this. She tries hard and loses and I love her for it.
I know for sure from last Saturday that at the time that I had registered myself, and then played the 3 (short) games, she was not home (out shopping).
Then later that day I had told her that I had opened a new poker account with Sportsbook and that I had found it was ludicrously easy and fishy. I also suggested that maybe she should look into it as well at some point.
I even said to her, don’t join straight away, look first, to see if it is your kind of site.
Subsequently she has gone right ahead and opened her own account at Sportsbook later that same weekend.
This was (of course) in her own (different) name using her own (different) address and her own (different) debit card.
All information we have both provided to Sportsbook was both 100% true and correct.
Crucially, I think the issue here is that she has registered from her own, different computer, but connected on the same wireless network that I registered from, so most likely the same router IP address, of course.
Turns out her account is now also blocked….
So anyway, I am presuming this must be the reason for the account suspension/closure.
I don’t know her password and have never accessed her account. Or tried to.
We have never played at the same time (actually during last weekend as with most weekends we hardly played at all) and so CERTAINLY have never played on the same table.
Sportsbook (like all sites) should easily be able to prove/verify this, or otherwise.
Sportsbook should also easily be able to identify that any attempts to log into either account during this week will have been from 2 different IP addresses (i.e. hers and mine).

She is very angry right now and close to tears.

I can understand why my girlfriend registering during the same weekend from (presumably) the same IP address might have triggered something and aroused suspicion.
However, this is an entirely INNOCENT situation. We are two totally separate people, male and female, living at 2 different addresses. Miles apart.
Had they bothered to try to contact either one of us, or even merely asked for some ID, or just even half heartedly responded on any of my numerous emails, then this could have been easily cleared up (and still could be).

We have also (both of us) had separate accounts at PP for several years. If we were the type of people who had ever tried to cheat/collude, then PP would have stamped on us for sure.

I remember when I last opened a new account 3 years ago (with Gnuf) someone from support actually called me within 10 minutes to ask me a bunch of questions (I guess to verify I was who I said I was).
No problem, so why could Sportsbook also not do that instead rather than just deciding to ban me - and then refusing to enter into any discussion, or provide me with any reason?
I have made several repeated attempts to have them explain to me the reason - all of which have been responded to in the usual non-communicative pigeon-English way.
Well, I think I have figured out for myself now.

I guess if I now open another new account somewhere then I need to be 100% certain that my girlfriend also does not ever open an account at that same site (just in case she ever logs on at my place, or I log on at her place)????
Which if correct, is plain crazy.
There must surely be wives and husbands out there playing on the same site. Let me re-emphasise one last time, we are both mature, professional people, who play for pleasure and enjoyment. It is not (and never was) in our vocabulary to ‘cheat’.
I am not trying to ‘labour’ the point, but even if we wanted to ‘cheat’ please consider: I am an IT professional and my girlfriend is a bank manager. So if we wanted to ‘cheat’ would we would play only $2 SNG’s and 0.05/0.10 limit??
The proof is in Sportsbooks records. Feel free to go ahead and ask them if there was any collusion. If you wish, we can also provide both PP usernames. Same story………..
I have emailed support with this information and requested that they confirm that this was indeed the trigger behind their decision to block me.

Mods: if you are able to get in contact with Sportsbook, and want to pm me then I will happily provide BOTH usernames. There was no collusion, nor any attempt to, nor ever intention to. Collusion is bad. I KNOW that.
Sportsbook must/will know IF this ever happened. They keep records and are required to keep records.
Both of us are also more than prepared to provide any/all requested ID and also sworn and signed statements. This is a chance here for Sportsbook to clear both names (both mine and theirs).
I AM COMPLETELY OPEN HERE TO THIS
Please make this public – I (we) have NOTHING to hide.

I know what some of you might possibly think after I have posted this, but I really don’t care about any negative reactions. I have always tried to be 100% open and honest on this forum.
Let this be a warning. We are completely innocent (as most of you are). Where are the rules for all this kind of thing? Where???

I was naïve before but now I am both bitter AND cynical.

Be careful!!!

There also still remains an open question – why are they breaking their own terms and conditions in respect that they simply refuse to refund my deposit to either my netteller account or bank account?
Their credit card policy clearly states that where their credit card processor cannot handle a refund then they will offer this option. They have not offered it. I have requested it twice and both times it has been ignored.

Thanks
Best regards,
Mike (my real name).

Sorry this was so long, I really do feel really bad about this whole situation. 2 hard working innocent people treated like s**t is not right.

Tomorrow we are off to the casino here. No problem with bricks and mortar poker (as a few earlier responders have agreed upon).

The two accounts should not be a problem however I am not sure of their terms. My husband and I each have accounts on several poker sites. The only time there was a slight problem was with bodog because their terms are one account per household, which I of course did not read, but they did email me saying they would make the exception.

Good luck to you guys, Maybe you should Fax over the IDs with a cover letter to the verification dept anyway, it can't hurt.

I advise always getting permission in writing, before you ever create a 2nd account on 1 ip address. This could save you alot of problems.Number 2,be ready to send them documents to prove who you are.Might be a good idea to send your ID when you join,so they have it up front.Be smart!

Has your girlfriend received any e-mails that say anything more than "We're closing your account lol bye"?

Nick (the guy who runs this place) is trying to get in touch with someone over at Sportsbook at the moment, so we'll see how things go.

Thanks for the replies.
I am not going to keep banging on about my innocence (the lady doth protest too much, methinks) for Shakespeare fans...

Dorkus > She has emailed support and got a similar reply. Management, bla, bla, etc.
They have offered to refund her visa card, (as they also offered to refund my Mastercard) - but they have said it will it take up to 15 days. Ridiculous, really..
But Ok.
If she gets refunded, I am OK with that.

I can honestly state that I am sure I know of married couples who both have active accounts at the same site. They live together. Sky Poker (I have satellite TV here) is just one reference for this.
In this example, we do not even live together!
I stand by all of my statements - we are 100% inncocent in this and do not (and have never) 'cheated'.
I will not say this one more time, because I realize it must be wearing thin.

Only Sportsbooks has all the answers, and only Sportsbook has the truth.

I would LOVE them to re-instate our accounts - OR
Close one account and keep the other one open - OR
Close both accounts BUT refund us both our deposits.

We are transparent in all of this and will continue to keep you all totally updated, until this reaches a conclusion.

This is an important case, not only for 'us' but for the poker community as a whole.

PS

To the mod who PM'd me, thanks (if it was indeed a mod).
The last 3 times I have posted on this thread, I have had a reply from Sportsbook within 20 minutes (usually after having waited up to 24 hours).

So I think you are watching :)

If you do the right thing, then we will publicy applaud you for that..........

PS

That last line was an open invitation to Sportsbook (who I really feel are monitoring this).

Please admit that you made a mistake, or at least a rash or hasty decision.

It will be good PR for you.

I will accept it and we can all move on.

Thanks, Mike

For once OP sounds genuine.

My suggestion would be this. Take it up with the credit card company. Tell them that you have been the victim of online fraud. That should trigger enough bells for them to get involved.

They have legal teams, companies fear lengthy correspondence with other companies that have legal teams. Anything purchased on CC has legal protection.

Just draft a letter explaing what has happened (dont make stuff up) but add a huge bias towards you being the victim of fraud. Question the legitimacy of the company etc etc.

Let's not go to war just yet.

I have received just now the following:

"Thank you for choosing us for your gaming entertainment. We hope you had great experience and that you'll visit us again soon.

This is only a RECEIPT to confirm your recent withdrawal request. A second email will be sent to you to confirm the funds have been sent to the address you've provided. Please keep in mind that your withdrawal request should be received within 2-3 weeks".

So, it seems that a) they are monitoring this thread or b) the mods on this forum have done a fantastic job!!!

Either way, I should get my deposit back within 3 weeks.

That must be an industry worst, as normally transfers to neteller take 24-72 hours.

Please mods, do not close this thread until I can confirm i have received these funds. i will lose the $7.50 profit i made - but that is trivia.

Thanks a MILLION to every single contributor to this thread. As I have said before, your support means a hell of a lot.

Cheers,
Mike
