bankroll: 1829.38

Played 1/2 10- handed again, and played a solid, very tight aggressive game. Made a few hands count, especially a failed chase where i had to bluff the river to take it down and it worked (for once).
Ended up with a decent profit for less than an hours work :)

What a rollercoaster ride today...I sat down at a table with the biggest calling stations i've ever played against. (see calling station thread for pics)
anyways in the first while, i didn't realize how much they would call with...
i lost half my buyin ($200) to continuation bets that just got called down with second pair, then my remaining $100 on AQvs 99 when i hit my Q on the flop, and he obviously called my continuation bet, then set me all in on the turn when he spiked his 9.
I really should have laid it down, but i think i was tiliting a little at that point.
Anyways with 1 buyin down, i decided i had to make it back up...i didn't want another -$200 day.
So i made them pay for their draws, and let them call me down with 2nd pair even though they got lucky sometimes. I ended up with not the biggest profit, but better than 200 in the hole :s

I decided to play a satellite to sunday's 25 000 guaranteed tournament on sunday for $10.90 + 1.00 and ended up winning! Got very lucky with a few races, but to be fair I had odds to call each time, and on one of the hands (A9 vs my A8) he really should have folded. I made a huge representative reraise and he still held on for an all-in in which i got lucky. When it got down to 3 players i gotta say i absolutely bulldozed them. They were just not willing to put any chips in the middle with less than a top 10 hand, 3 handed...not the way you play to win...
Anyways so i won the ticket, and will be playing (and hopefully placing) in this sundays 25K GP! (actual buy-in is $100) This will be the biggest tournament I'll have ever entered, and hopefully i fare well.
https://www.cardschat.com/showthread.php?p=402730#post402730
I also entered a 2250 GP TURBO which i didn't know was a turbo when i reg'd...
Ended up paying $15 in buyin, rebuys and addons which led nowhere...i hate those bloody things - literally the only way to win a turbo rebuy is to get reeeeally lucky with races the whole game. I never once played a hand that went past the flop without an all in.
Anyways enough complaining :) - i ended up a few dollars down today, but also ended up with a $100 ticket to a big tournament sunday, so i'm happy :)

Profit: -27.40 + $100+$9 entry to $25000 Guaranteed

What did you start with? How did you manage your BR thoughout? Did you play the micro ring games a lot and move up in levels as you had more $ ?

Effexor (read the first post) ;):
Q1: I started with $11 that i won from a cardschat freeroll.
Q2: In the beginning stages of my 'journey' i really didn't know any real strategies with poker aside from hand selection. I had no idea what limits i should have been playing with my BR size, and often played too high for my bankroll - which sometimes turned disastrous. I lost my first BR by doing so - it was up to about $100 and i went broke on a losing streak in which i went on a big tilt too.
I now generally follow the %5 or %10 rule (not having more than X% at a single table at one time) and basically follow any bankroll management rule that you can find on this site.
Q3: Yes :) I started at 1c/2c NLHE, $1 SnGs and freerolls and i now play $1/$2 (just took a step down from $2/$4 after a big losing streak and my BR got too small for those stakes), up to $30 SnGs and up to $20-$25 MTTs.
Basically i was a freeroll whore who made a little dough and have so far made it up to what i have now :)

Bankroll: 1897.33

I haven't posted in a bit, and have played some in the days between so these profits (or lack thereof) are from today and past days.
Played some MTTs and did fairly well, but didn't hit the money. I've also played 2 small SnGs - 10-seater $5, and $2 20 seater. Both i was playing a very tight aggressive style, and busted out on a bad beat  lol typical for those levels i guess.
I played 1/2 and .5/1 ring games today, 3 tables of 10-handed and was playing very well for the first while, then lost a big pot on the 1/2 with my QQ vs. a KK when he called me down, and i ended up losing half my buy-in.
I started tilting, so decided it was best i leave while i was still alive :p
Also played a nightly for the first time in a while, placed 3rd (VERY good game btw guys - lots of fun. It was a tough table too - Rob, List, and 36s eek)
I lost alot over the last few days, but i'm not really worried - most was from MTT and SnG buy-ins, and a bill of it is from cash games...though i could do better :/

Aha, Chuck T keeping at the madness!!!!

I have only one tip when it comes to managing a casino/poker bankroll....
DO NOT take your entire bankroll on play it one hand of blackjack.

Ish a bad idea :)

and with that being said...Good luck!

Nice to see you have a + day. I like watching your posts. Helps me see that I am not the only one who has swings and changes. I feel your losses. Have gone from 97 to 20 in a week of crap cards and now am pushing it back to 60.

I went 3 for 4 in $5 heads up matches today and should have been 4 for 4 except 2 card suckout on river in one.

Chin up and all that stuff, have a good long weekend.

Bankroll:
Titan: 1658.86
PS: 28.69

Played 1/2 shorthanded for about a 1/2 hr or so
The table had a bunch of shortstacks (fishies) and a big stack, about 2 times the buyin (a big calling station who took control of the smaller stacks)
I just played my normal style, and took down all but 1 pot i entered. They were pretty prime pickins :) lol
one big pot was me having KT and opponent with QT and both of us hitting top pair. He made an all in semi-bluff on the river (though he was a small stack) when it paired the middle card on the board; i think maybe i should have laid down the hand, but regardless made the call and took it down.
I don't know if i'm playing again later, so i decided to post this now while i can still remember.

Bankroll:
Titan: 1802.31
PS: 28.69

Played 2 tournaments today:
1) 25K - i was really nervous, but fairly confident; in the end i just played too tight though. I played maybe 5 hands the whole tourney (2 hrs of play). Competition there was surprisingly soft, but regardless who i'm playing against, i won't play AT typpe hands OOP for a raise, and that resulted in me being shortstacked and playing increasingly tighter throughout the tourney. I ended up with 3.5BBs and an all in with my A5vsAJ and his hand held up.
2) Sat. CC $10 Special - great game, had fun with you guys. Probably should have taken first place, but threesixes bulldozed me :p I was a big chiplead too :/
Anyways, i'm positive in profits today, but i'm really down about that 25K...false hopes of hitting cash i guess - either way i'm going to try for the next one again.

FreeRolls on Titan

Chuck etal,
There are a ton of freerolls but all seem to be password protected. Can anyone tell me how to find those that are not?

scthrower:
there are plenty of freerolls out there that don't require passwords - try prima network, titan, poker.com - many sites have no-requirement freerolls.
If you're looking to join cardschat's password protected ones, read this:

Just like i added my miniature PS bankroll to my overall BR, i'm now going to add my CDPoker free $20 from pokerinside to it (which i have just grown a little playing some 0.02/0.04 OH8)

Overall BR: 1802.31(Titan) + 28.69(Stars) + 21.84(CDpoker) = 1852.84

Hey I checked up on you in the 25K and saw you went out like 70th or so. That wasnt too far from 187 bucks my friend.

I usually do very well in those type of tourneys at Titan. I play really tight like you for the 1st part, but bet very aggressive when I have a huge hand. I usually like to play only a few hands early, but try to double on them if possible. Whether I trap or bet big depends on my reads, but thats my goal early. I switch gears later on (80 - 100 left?) provided I have acheived a larger than average sized stack and tend to prey upon weakness regardless of my cards. By this time most of the players that are left are thinking they may money if they can hold on and will fold if you can convince them they are beat.If I am a low stack I will try to wait for a premium hand and double through a big stack that I read will call with a lesser hand. Not sure if this is good advice my friend as I am no expert, but it seems to work for me. Good Luck, and keep building that bankroll :D

Perfect my man :)
that's basically what i try to do; usually the biggest problem for me is getting the right hand at the right time early-middle on. When i have an above average stack, my guess is that i cash a good majority of the time. When i don't, it's basically a crapshoot as i have to take races and try to double up when the blinds hit 50/100 or 100/200.
And yes, this is valuable and good info, 6s :) i know that you're pretty damn successful with the titan mtts, and any advice from you does help

again, thanks bro

Ah Chuck keep up the good work with these posts, I'm another one who regularly reads this as inspiration. It's nice to see your bankroll steadilly increase. Pity about the 25k, I too had the same thing when I won an entry to a big tourney(100K):I played super-tight, and even when I got a premium hand PF I was still afraid to bet big, in the end I bottled it and went out quietly, something i hate doing, much rather go out with a bang!
As for someone mentioning freerolls, 32redpoker do a nice one on the last sunday of every month with a prize fund of $5000 with no entry requirements. Played in it last night, come 75th out of 1800 players, for a payout of $7.50, might have done better, as I called an all-in OOP with AQos and got slaughtered by KK. Oh well...
Anyway, enough of my ramblings,
keep up the good work Chuck

Thanks for the kind words, KD :)
i have the same problem as you. I just plain get overwhelmed with big tournaments/cash games.
The key thing to remember is that the majority of the players in tourneys got in through satellites like you & me, and are honestly not fantastic players. Sure there are the sharks out there, but they are few and far between. i was REALLY surprised at how poor the play was in that 25K. I saw one person overcall, against odds (when do you have odds with this hand anyways :/), two all ins with 69 suited. wild.
Just remember there are donks at every level - it's just adjusting to the stakes that's the hard part for me, anyways.

Bankroll:
Titan: 1802.31 [just realized i botched yesterday's starting BR, which should have been 1762.31]
PS: 28.69
CD: 21.84

Didn't play any ring games today, but played a nightly (gg by all as usual ;)) and the $5 3K guaranteed and did fairly well in both.
In the MTT, i finally had a healthy stack by the end of the first break, and it carried me to 20-sumthing place. The key hand that put me down was me raising the 500/1K blinds with a KQ, and a gambler pushing behind me. I had to fold, and after asking her if my KQ was good, she showed me 78s :)mad:). I think i'm getting more back into MTTs - the competition is just so soft, that i honestly feel that i could hit cash regularly for a nice profit if i were play my game.
Anyways i rebought once, and added on, so my MTT profit wasn't as nice as it could have been.

Profit: +12.81

Titan: 1815.12
