My state is currently debating it again but wants to tax it at an obscene rate. The state next door I used to live in has had it regulated and legal for over a year and is showing massive successes.
It's silly the governments want to try to tell us what we can do in our own homes with our own money.
I still blame that crooked politician who I think in the early to mid-2000s painted online poker as a threat to "american family values" under the tagline "click your mouse....lose your house." People eat that kind of rhetoric up I think based on fear...which also explains why people vote for someone as incompetent as Trump.
I'm guessing a lot of people do not understand poker or understand online poker and take a politicians' word when they say it must be "evil" or "destructive." Hide yo kids hide yo wife,
pokerstars is out here taking everyone's houses!
And not to make light of serious
gambling addiction problems I do believe players, states, governments, and sites/casinos have a responsibility to promote responsible gambling and access to gambling addiction resources...but the vast majority of online and live poker players probably aren't degenerate gamblers and probably aren't gambling away everything to play poker.
Ironic that sports betting is seen in a better light than poker by the general public at times...and that's all about betting on what other people's actions are without any control of the action yourself!
