Thinking about it, I suppose I could see people creating novelty decks. They can make decks with anything on them that want. But as far as going to the casino and them having decks with unfamiliar characters on them, I think it might throw people off. I suppose you could use decks without any characters on the face cards. Those already exist. For example, Bicycle makes Lo-Vision playing cards for people with visually impaired.

*sigh* equality and human rights should be a given - no debate. But to force such an issue on something as trivial as a deck of cards is unforgivable when there are ACTUAL HUMANS being effected on a daily basis!
If you have the energy to spare, deal with the real issues first. These are little pieces of coloured (yes, that's spelt correctly, it's English) card. Everyday you spend on this and a person is suffering, is a day you've wasted in the noble pursuit of equal rights!
Besides, who's to say the cards don't like being ranked this way? Who are we to force our opinions on them, respect the cards!

I'm all for representation, and if people want to buy and play gender-neutral cards then go for it.
I love the symmetrical design of the face cards so I dislike the art of these gold/silver/bronze ones. I love the history and evolution of the classic deck of playing cards too.
But the original link is just someone releasing a different design of playing cards. Your not being forced to buy them, casinos aren't changing the card style and your liberty isn't being threatened in any way. The backlash on this forum is a bit much for something that isn't a big deal.

Released a total of 1.5 thousand decks for the whole of Europe?!?! Well, something a little straight Europeans are running to buy this shit. Grandfather Freud would have appreciated her choice of symbolism-money, and what it says about the woman herself and her real interest "about protecting the neutralization of gender inequality".... There is only a desire to cash in on the "popular trend now" and nothing more. And it is executed terribly, because the eye is confused and does not cling to the symbols, it is too garish and really knocks during the game. I do not know where she studied there and how to become a forensic psychologist, but being a little familiar with psychology myself, I can assure you that the girl clearly skipped couples and will not wash anything away in psychology, etc., given HOW and WHAT she depicted on the cards....

I’d love to see that. To me, even contemplating that should be insulting to women because of underlying assumption.
Look at a picture of the king and the queen. Ok, the king holding a sword might make him look more powerful, but maybe the Queen’s power doesn’t require a sword.
Other than the sword I see nothing else that implies the king is more powerful than the queen, unless you take the aforementioned underlying assumption that women are weaker than men, because that’s the only difference I see. The king is male, the queen is female. Just crazy.
What’s their solution? Make the king and queen gender neutral? Or perhaps give those high catds a totally different name given the oppressive nature of a king?

There is a province, here, in canada, called Manitoba.
Are they going to change that to Personitoba.

Naturally I understand this is an attempt at humor but isn't the name Manitoba derived from Cree Native American language, like the name Manhattan is derived from the Munsee Lenape tribe? Little to do with a power dynamic.
As regards 'manhole', yes the term literally comes from a device to allow men to access underground sewers. And whilst I would make no argument that the average 19th century women wanted to work in the sewers, I'd hazard a guess many of them thought there might be more to life than domestic duties and cooking dinner for hubby.
It's been a long road from scrubbing floors to the Vice Presidency and every little helps.
