If countries continue to impose restrictions, it is a risk, either way, luckily it was reversed in some places when it occurred. other than that, zombie apocalypse, skynet or the internet service gets much worse as mentioned above :)

COVID may help online poker

I’m not sure how they could get the total number of players that have started playing online poker because of Covid because that is the only poker to be played. I know in my area(Midwest) the casinos are open but poker just started about a month ago and cash tables are only 5 handed. Playing at lower stakes with the casino rake makes it very hard to make a profit. Once I heard that the poker room at my favorite casino was going to start playing again of course I was excited to play “live.” I have always done both and I enjoy both. There is just nothing that equals playing “live” poker if you really love to play the game itself. Being face-to-face with your opponents and how the tiniest of things give you that feeling(or tell) that you have your opponents right where you want them.
There is nothing that equals playing poker live. With that being said, with the world’s current condition we may all be forced to play ALOT more online poker. I love poker. I’m a disabled Army Veteran. So I play online all the time anyway. It seems that Covid will definitely force all of us to turn much more of our focus to the online world of poker. Good luck to all. Hope to see you soon.

Either local government regulations or some option that somehow takes less rake and costs less to maintain.

If another site goes broke (Full Tilt), or another cheating scandal (Ultimate Bet). However, online poker keeps thriving in spite of regulation, payment issues and bots.

I believe that the evolution of communication is something that will never stop. We are close to communicating by telepathy. It's simple! Just implant a chip in people's brains to read brain waves and connect them to the internet. We will speak through thought. This will be extended to the animals too and so you can know what is going on with them. If they are hungry, thirsty, if they want to go for a walk, feel pain, etc. The future of communication will be wonderful. As for poker, I don't see why to finish. Not for lack of communication, but perhaps for lack of credibility. Well, let's play against robots, artificial minds or whatever. ;););)

They've already come up with an AI bot (Pluribus) that has beat NL hold-em, if something like this becomes widely available and is able to also circumvent anti-botting measures taken by poker rooms then this could potentially ruin online poker.

If every table has one or more unbeatable bots then there's no point in playing online anymore.

Laws and regulations can. Things are looking bad at my place as few people went into debt betting, online gambling and committed suicide. So the government is planning on banning all forms on online games that involve money and poker is also included.

No electricity no online poker

If I lose power I have no poker. Or if the particular site(s) I’m playing happens to lose their power grid that means the end of my playing there. I don’t even want to think about any scenario where large portions of the U.S. are without power for any extended amount of time!! Complete and utter chaos will ensue. The loss of online poker might be the least of our worries my friends. Just my opinion!

From my point of view it is the small number of players online due to the fact of finding many bots to avoid the profit and it is also discouraging

A vaccine for the corona will put a big hurt on it if nothing else, otherwise I believe its not going away, hopefully someone can expose how many sites are rigged though.

Put the people who count US election ballots in control of online poker. Every $100 deposit would be credited as $1 and be taxed $200 on the back end.

I found your answer extremely interesting. I am not disparaging the other people who came to comment, but most come with a certain pattern of response.

But yours caught my attention a lot.

In fact, I partially agree with you, I just don't know if this technology will be so close in the coming centuries ...
But supposing that this is already a reality, will your thoughts not be exposed with this new technology, since speech will be inhibited allowing you to speak mentally according to your right proposal?

But if that happens, it will be impossible to play poker, as everyone can hear your thoughts.

Do you agree?

I know these are assumptions :):)

I believe this would be one of the few ways to actually ban Online Poker.

I see that the only way to reinvent yourself would be with a continuous authentication system, and the only option I can think of is the launch of a VR glasses that does this process.

However, the base will be a program, soon it can be corrupted by a hacker, so maybe, it will be something difficult to control.

A second option that will not make much sense to the term online, would be to have a place, a kind of game store with numerous booths, where the player is observed by cameras allowing the same game online.

perhaps this is one of the only slightly safer options, as there may be less corruption.

I do not think that online poker will ever die, in fact, I think it more likely that it will grow. I truly believe that eventually America will legalise it enough that most people will be able to play and that will breathe new life into the online rooms.

The only thing that might kill it is another huge scandal, with either Stars or party poker at the centre of it. Other than the industry is strong and getting stronger.

Once everything ends. But poker is impossible to calculate due to randomness. No machines will help.

Who knows what's going on?) Big brother is watching you and not only in poker. The poor want to become richer. The rich are richer. Poker will only exists as long as it is a profitable business.

I think it has gotten so big that nothing short of no internet would stop it... Thankfully!
