So I play a lot of Casino poker. I can't stand when people eat at the table. It's more so the people that eat burgers and such with their hands and then lick their fingers and dive in to grab their poker chips. Obviously if you're eating everything with a knife and fork I don't really have an issue , Just the get their hands nasty then get the chips nasty type people. So Do you eat at live games or Prefer not to?

No, I just take a break and go to the Cafeteria.

I did when I first started back in 2005-08 but no longer. I find it distracting and way to messy. I always getup and eat away from the table now.

But yeah the licking of fingers and overall complete disregard for sanitary practices is pretty disgusting.

Its always good to take a break and go eat away from the table. It gives you time to reflect on previous hands. To improve your strategy and to destroy the table!

Exactly , there's 100s of people a day touching those chips and table would never want to eat without a good hand washing.

I HATE it when players eat at the poker table. Besides spreading or getting germs (think about how dirty those poker chips are that you touch, then touch your food with), it's not healthy to just sit and play poker, sit and eat, and then play more poker. It is also distracting, and I bet you make worse decision when you eat and play at the same time.

I like to keep a drink (non alcohlic drink) with me but I wouldnt be comfortable eating at the poker table even with a fork and spoon. It would be distracting to me and everyone else too I think. I agree with all the unsanitary comments about eating finger foods also. Ive had a liver transplant so I take immune suppressants to prevent rejection. So I get sick or catch things much easier than people with healthy immune systems. I watch things like that closely and I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket any time I go to places with lots of people. I mostly just play online now and this is one of the reasons.

Nope. Really don't like it when other players do. Most players practice good hygiene, but every now and then you get one who doesn't. I'll leave the table when I get the 'eater' or 'sneezer'.

I saw one guy at work who Had a terrible case of warts on his eyelids and on his top lip and his fingers.... I felt really sorry for him.......... but I also felt like i wanted to avoid touching any thing he came into contact with ...lol i know it sounds bad... I'm bad but its an auto response...

If the Players were eating a Kabab from a van down the road then i'd be slightly worried But if the food is produced in accordance with Food Health and Hygiene in the Casino restaurant the problem would be more about mess than hygiene... ewww i hate sticky cards... Sweetened Drinks are worse than sweaty fingers but that doesn't sound to nice either... lol

I think Alcohol Based Gels for Hygiene are great...Use them... Close your eyes while they eat or get a masseuse to take the stress off with a rub down at the table until they're finished lol

If I am hungry then I eat.

I try to NOT use my hands because of all the chips and other stuff that I touch.

Usually good prices, good value and good food at the poker table.

I try to not tell the table how "good" the food tastes...….I don't want the fact that I'm in a hand (and pause eating the "delicious" dinner) to be a tell.

Thank you Inequitas. As long as I stay mindful my health is not that bad. I just have to be careful. I had the transplant in 2011 and since then my quality of life has actually been very good. I dont have much to compare it to. I lived a miserable life before, thinking I was having fun and enjoying. But it was actually a miserable exsistance looking back on it. Hind sight is 20/20.
Now I live in a tropical paridise with a young beautiful wife and our 3 girls. So I cant complain about a few minor inconveniences. Live is what you make it and I was given a second chance with this transplant. Im trying to make the very most of it. Staying super positive is part of that.

Someone did that here the other day , Dude won a huge pot off another guy at 2/5. He did it to piss off another person at the table (no not me) .

This question requires further context. At Playground Poker Club near Montreal, there is free food at cash tables. It has been like this at every cardroom that I have played at on the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake. Even the old, no frills cardroom that I used to play at, that had no kitchen, would order a bunch of XXL pizzas each evening (for cash and tourney players). There is no free food, apparently, at the Casino de Montreal (run by Provincial Government).

So if we're talking free food, then yes, I eat at every cash table I play at. In part, I'm just trying to claw back rake. When it comes to tourneys, where there is no free food, I eat at the table only when absolutely necessary. I hate paying over the top prices for mediocre food.

And yes, eating at the cardroom means eating at the table. It sucks, but I do it. I try to wash my hands before ordering and try to never touch the food. I try to order only single hand, utensil consumable items.

Every time! I have sesame chicken and fried rice, with hot and sour soup most days that I play.

I don't eat at the tables, and I find it very disconcerting when players eat finger foods at the table. Seeing someone eat a salad or stir fry bowl with a fork is OK, but only if the smell of the food is not offensive to others.

I eat before I go to the poker room. It's too much of a distraction for me when I have food in front of me.

lol, I guess I'm gross. I always order something about a hour into my session. Usually an omelette or steak and eggs. Something I can eat with a knife and fork.

I do not like to do it because it's not hygienic and healthy. I always make a little break because I eat fast and that's the best way. And I would recommend everyone to do it.

One of my favorite card rooms has GREAT chinese - comped. So I always get some when I go there. Furthermore, it's a waiting list to get a seat, and I don't want to give it up. I rarely get finger food, though. No matter what I get, though, I load up on napkins, and try not to touch chips with greasy hands. Unfortunately, I am a huge slob, so my bar is pretty low.

This one gets a pass since it is free food, and you have to eat at the table to get the food. So it is customary to eat at the table in Canada. You also try to minimize the food to chip transfer.

Most poker rooms comp food if you're playing awhile or high limits so yes I usually take advantage of that. Someone else brought up not wanting to give up your seat and I 100% agree. However, chips are gross, players are gross, poker rooms are gross and that can really get you sick. Etiquette says eat with one hand, play with the other and for crying out loud use napkins!!! My absolute favorite was going to a room and they had a chicken wing special. Are you kidding me! Worst idea ever!

It's unpleasant as you mention. I suppose that the people who carry out these practices should at least use hygienic towels when they are going to manipulate the chips.

I do not eat at the table because I find it uncomfirtable I better just take a brake.

I try to see if it can help me. Turns out, if they stop eating all of a sudden and pay attention, they have a pretty amazing hand. I also love when morons show their cards to their girlfriend sitting next to him. You can get the exact hand holding just looking at their girl.

I don't see a problem with eating at the table. I'll get anything as long as it doesn't get my fingers greasy to mess up the cards or chips. And only take bites when I'm not in a hand or in between hands. If your in a tourney or grinding cash for hours who wants to get away from the table to find food lol.

agreed, the main thing is to be respectful of the other players and the game. No hand-held foods, making a mess, or slowing down the action seems fair to me.

I like a couple of Oreos, other than that, no.

Maybe a small bag of peanuts or something, but if I need a meal - might as well just leave the game and come back later.

I always make sure to eat something that can be eaten with a fork and knife. I also make sure its something not too filling. Food coma equals bad play. Salads are my usual preference for when I play.

I dont eat at the table. I just seems rude to me and Franky with all the people who touch those chips over time...... I would not want to handle my food and those chips.

On occasion I will eat at the poker table. I prefer to just take a break from the table and go eat else where.

didn't expect this to get this much action. Now the poker room here has limitations on what you can have at the table. there have been so many complaints about people licking their fingers and then chipping in or taking to much time to act so the Poker Room only allows you to be in the hand with certain foods and if you are taking to long to act in a tourney because of the food they in less smart words give you a "time out"

I play a lot of tournaments, so yes of course. I do try to eat light and usually eat easy packaged foods - rarely ever order a meal at the table.
I usually bring some keto snacks - coconut oil packs, chomps jerky, sometimes some nuts. I play a lot at The Bike and get string cheese from the starbucks to round out the mix. I always have my backpack so I bring coffee and water as well.

I do find it disgusting that players eat with their hands actually touching their food then touching chips/cards etc... how gross is that??

Seriously though, I prefer not to eat at the table. Most certainly if I did, it would be a bite between hands and not during a live hand. I simply have no interest in giving my opponent more potential tells to look for; I'll just leave the table for the cafeteria and perhaps return to playing poker later.

Eating food with your hands (especially greasy foods) is just a no-no for etiquette. As noted by others, I don't really care if they have a fork / chop sticks or eating something small like oreos. I love it when other players eat, during live hands, at the table though. That's right, eat your food that way and give me potential information about your holdings. If you eat while still in the hand, you might as well be playing with your hole cards face up against me

It makes me very angry when someone eats at the table. Well, be patient or step aside. This is not a dining table but a poker.
