To all the Cardschat members in Vegas for the Colossus:
Even though I have not yet personally met any of you, and I have only exchanged CC messages with Debi when I needed help, I am living this experience vicariously through you. It would be great if all of you could write a brief posting detailing your experiences and how it felt.
I arrived in Vegas after an 8 hour drive Saturday to 100+ degree temps. After registering for Flight e on Sunday, Stephen texted me that he had arrived around 9pm from Cleveland. I agreed to pick him up in the morning so he could reg and play in flight e as well. He said quote " I get up real early" call me when you get up. So after waking at 4 am I was ready to go by 5am so I texted "wakey wakey" no reply. I decided to drive to circus circus to roust him up, but no response. As soon as I drove off at 7am to head over to the Rio, he texted me and I returned to wait for him and girl friend and other friend at Mc Donalds next door. While I was waiting some guy walks over to my car and asks if I was buying drink there and I said no. He said he is selling straws for $1 because he stole them all and they are out inside now.
LOL haha 20 minutes he sat 30 feet from me on curb soliciting his sale. He even tried to sell to an employee that was arriving to work. He then shouted at me "Hey are you with the LV police". OMG I said no so he continued to sit there pushing his straws to everyone and talking to himself when no one was around. Finally a young fellow who previously rolled his eyes at the idea walked out with 2 drinks and no straws and the fellow made his 1st sale, then Stephen showed up. I had butterflies early in the morning but by the time we arrived 2 hours early I became very relaxed and felt almost in the zone. Finally it was time to play. 5000 chips is not a lot of starting chips but the blinds started at 25/50 and after 2 hours it was only up to 150/300. Not bad at all really. My 1st hand I got QQ in the sb and went all in, while the fellow who raised in 3X bet ahead of me considered his call what seem like an eternity. My mind started to wonder then I felt a little nervous thinking what if I am out in 1st hand??? Finally he folded his AJ phew. I saw Debi Dakota sitting across the room finally for the 1st time and went over to say hi. A couple hours later when my stack was at 3500 chips Debi came by my table and said she was out and do I want to go out to dinner tonight. I was in BB and was staring at KK when she arrived. So she took a couple of pictures of me with my best poker face (photo to come) and watched as I tripled up. The next 2 hours I was completely card dead folding A10 twice to 2 big raises. That may have been a mistake thinking back, but at the time it was the right play. We had a very fun talkative table, which made my experience very enjoyable. The player to my left sat with me the entire 6 hours while all the other original players were KO'd. Though I didn't make the money, I am proud of the way I played and I only made one mistake the whole game and that was drinking too much water in 1st hour and had to go to bathroom twice during game and missed 4-5
hands. I would have to say "YES" I would play again in the big game in the future. Also to note I never had over 11300 chips the entire game. So lasting as long as I did was a good accomplishment.
