I like this article, especially this part

dffd19fe0cede0840ce3fed3d328120a.png

:D

When I started to play poker I had some tilt phases. Now...never. I think I am used on bad beats. :)
But I still like cookies :)

Anger is in human's nature but I feel you can ''attack'' it by put some volume on your game. By playing only one table you overthinking everything and maybe you doubt your play. You will not always win if you make the best play. Tilt occurs after a huge lost flip 8/10 time right? You can do nothing about a lost flip.

If my opponent played poorly the whole hand till the showdown this irritates me more than a standard flip situation.

Tilt is the worst thing in the world. I love to get out of tilt in the deepest breath and exhale. Pouring a cup of tea, I carefully and bravely walk out of tilt and continue to play poker. I get into tilt quite infrequently, as I try to control myself when playing poker.

Great, this article is about me.
When I started playing poker, I felt a lot of emotions. It was the joy of victory, anger and even the fury of defeat. But there were more negative emotions and they accumulated. I saw how I lost money because of a bad mood, but I still continued to play.
Sometimes it seemed to me that I could not play poker. I deleted the App and took a break. The longest break lasted almost a year. This period was good for me, when I returned to poker, I decided to control my emotions. I try not to sit at the table if I have a bad mood. I play cash games to end the game at any time if I get angry.
When I participate in a tournament, I use breaks to relax, I can go outside for fresh air or make myself some tea. When anger overtakes me, I can leave the game and try to put myself in order and calm down. This strategy began to bring good results and I began to feel more confident. Good luck to everyone, see you at the table.

Great Article! I spent a long time learning about and building my mind, throught poker I became a better person for life. Trying to control tilts for enthusiasm or anger or depression or unpatience... Nowadays I have learned to be more rational to take good decisions decisions and CardsChat have a part on it. Thanks and congrats!

The very end of the article gives us somewhat of an advice as to how to deal with tilt or rather, how not to tilt at all, but in all honesty, I personally think it is near impossible to prevent it from happening!

For example, the only game I am tilting at is online tournaments! If I play cash game and someone plays bad but gets lucky, I have the benefit of re-buying and win my chips again. Basically I am mentally prepared to be unlucky here and there knowing I have the skill to profit eventually.

In a tournament, I get to the table with the mindset that if someone gets very lucky against me, I will bust out and finish playing, which is really bad. My way of dealing with tilt is that I practically stopped playing online tournaments (aside from CC events and a CC freeroll once/twice a week).

On the other hand, when I play live, tournaments or cash games, I have no such problem as to getting tilted. I am usually encountered in talking with someone at the table, so even if I am unlucky or something that would usually tilt me happens, I am busy talking and having a fun time.

The article was very good and helpful. Tilt is something that I struggle with at times, other times I can manage it quite well. One of the most difficult things in dealing with tilt is the times it affects your decisions and you don’t realize it until it’s too late and you’ve put your self in a terrible spot.

In all honesty I can relate to the article, thinking back how I was before while playing poker. Today, I don't tilt any more so I guess I'm a robot. First of all, I play microstakes so if I loose, it doesn't affect me at all. Secondly, "feeling" emotional about it, merely masks what the problem is. The problem is you not accepting what happened and you can't let it go. You've stopped thinking. Like the article said: "check your hands." This is what you should be doing. You should be analyzing the situation and learn from it. If you can't be honest with yourself, you're always going to be negative when you're loosing in poker.

Well, quite extensive and detailed article. Interesting, instructive. Some concepts will try to experience the exact walk and preparation for the game. The main thing in my opinion to be able to stop, the inability to do it killed a decent amount of my bankrolls. In such situations, I remember one saying my Father would beat not for the fact that played, and for that revenge!

Translation is a saying with the help of Google - funny, although in general the meaning is preserved. Exactly, the main mistake of the tilting player is an attempt to rectify the situation by playing not according to the bankroll. Play all lost by a few high stakes. It is especially common for players in casino games - because casinos always have a profit.

There are three simple rules for a successful game:
1. BRM. Anyone, there are a lot of bankroll strategies, most importantly stick with them. Is always.
2. Learn the rules of the game and read at least the basic concepts before playing for serious money. This is a frequent problem, because new versions of poker games appear frequently.
3. Find your opponents by force. Among the players there are different levels of skill. I am sure that you will grow, but remember that there are always some players who are stronger than you. Playing with them is useful for your experience, but may be unsuccessful for your bankroll.

I don't tilt at any one thing mentioned in the article but if you combine a couple of those factors it can happen.

Being completely card dead has to be the worst. Blinding down to a short stack, making risky steals with junk just to stay afloat then finally getting a monster pair only to see it cracked is a killer.

At that point I will shut it down and find something else to do:)

I tilt too much often after a bad beats during online tournament.
It is not good for me because I like to play multiple tournament.
So when a bad beats happen in one, then I'm not in a good mood for all my games.
I will write down some phrase to calm me down and re-read this article a couple of times.

The biggest challenge of the poker player is not to learn the rule of the game, but to learn about tilt in your game and in your mind.
This situation is common in all players who most often leads to injury, this is part of the behavior of the mind, but the player must seek strength to combat this evil.

really enjoyed reading the article with usefull informations that everyone should benefit from it ) i would add just one thing about it , when you get bad beats and you are on tilt , other players expect to exploite the fact that you are tilted , if you are good at controling yourself you could use it to your advantage and have them playing a wider range while expecting you to be doing the same ;)

I believe that self-understanding of the reasons why you go into tilt is the best way to avoid them.

Often we learn only when we make mistakes, we make mistakes again, and if we do not control, tilt will lead us into a more complex situation.

As our friend mentioned above, it is very good to unlearn the mind for seconds from what is good for you, such as doing physical exercises or breathing techniques and concentration.

Tilt is a normal thing. but .. the most important thing is that the tilt remains just seconds after a bad beat,
and focus on the next, as if nothing had happened ..:cool:

To Tilt or Not to Tilt

I love jazz. The idea of listening to music by Dave Grusin or George Winston is new. I have written it down.
I like what is said about "I made the right play, it just didn't work out". I need to practice that pre-tilt instead of post. I do need to take a break more often and when to call it a night before throwing myself to all you pros listening to jazz, taking breaks, and repeatedly saying it just did not work out while you call it a night before you lose more money.
;):D

Interesting topic. Thank you.

I used to have big problems with tilt and still do. Poker is sometimes not a fair game and you'll need to understand this. It sucks that after 3hours of playing a tournament you get a huge cooler and you bust before the money, but there's nothing you could do. Just gotta keep playing and you'll win sooner or later. My advices would be:
1. Take a break( go to oustide and took a deep breath and come back to the game with new mind),
2. Don't look at your balance and don't be upset or mad if your loosing. This killed my bankroll back then. I was getting angry when I had a losing day and registered higher and higher buy-in tournaments to cover the loses and make profit. Never do that. You can't win all the time in poker.
3. Play more tables. If you have bunch of tables going on you might take less stressfull the loses since you have a decision to make on other tables. Not on tilt of course. Multitabling on a tilt never ends good.

My wife is on call for tilt control (of course, I return the favor). So if I am on tilt, she brings me a treat like cookies and milk; or maybe a sandwich (for her it is a cup of coffee). In extreme cases of tilt, I have sat out for a while for some distinctly adult married activities. There is a danger in this that I will never return to the game and get blinded out (at which point, I don't even care about the game anymore). But if I do return, all of the frustration of the game is gone. There have been quite a few times I have come back to a tiny pile of chips and still been able to comeback for a cash.

the tilt makes us our own enemy, sometimes we forget the impact of the variance and we focus to the results in the short term, we know that you have to control your emotions and be patient, The tilt is a psychological bias that must be very careful by the way, you must always have respect of the plans like Money Management, Devellopement of your games, get your thoughts and objectives clearer, Your thought process is the true way to measure your skills and progress. As you improve your thought process, your financial results will take care of themselves over time, if you continue the good work you will rarely fall in tilt.

Very good article about tilt. I've noticed that I'm always knockout after several bad beats or couple of lost pots. I play freerolls only and at the begining I feel absolutely free. But just I get some stack I start to worry about it and begin very sensitive to loses. That's why I don't play on real money and will have never played on cash game ))

I was one of the first members in CC to quote Tendler's book and I totally agree with him.
I mostly do not tilt anymore, but occasionally I give in to a good, heavy, greek cussing, just to blow of some steam.
The only key is to stop being results oriented. As long as you are certain that you played the hand right, the outcome is beyond control. I know it hurts to have your rockets beaten by a set of twos, but shoot happens.
Take a deep breath and go on.
