To be profitable in poker is possible and even easy.

You need to study maybe 20 hours to make it happen and of course play punch of hands on the tables. NL2 only think you need to do is to have your ranges right and kill the calling fish in you. Well, you don’t even have to kill it totally =) just a bit.

Depends what you mean by profitable.
If you are talking an hourly rate then no.
On the other hand i have never deposited and across four sites have a total of $2,000.
However, I treat poker as fun, and the dollars that I have won fund my enjoyment:)
P.S.The people I know who have made some big money in the past, usually crash and burn, that includes live and online players.
I knew one guy who won $66,000 one night playing online roulette collected his winnings and quit.
His bother was and still is a winning player with over $250,000 but he is a math wizard and not everybody can claim that skill.

imo we all play poker to make money -- the thrill of quick easy money is what reels u in and then u find out its a hard way to make an easy living like doyle said. its a challenge to become profitable, the majority of players lose and that's how it works. if you want to be a winner then u have to work harder than 80% of the players online and live.

Yes it can be. But it can take a lot of practice, discipline, patience, and desire to constantly improve not only your raw poker skills but your mental toughness, self awareness, ability to keep good records. And to always challenge yourself to improve.

I'm in my first year of overall profitable play taking a first place $1400 win in an online MTT, a few other small cashes, and since beginning to play live a small, but healthy and encouraging profit from live play in casino cash games. But it took years of self growth, study, patience, practice, and being honest with myself to even get that far. And I'm fully prepared to realize I could end the year a losing player or have an incredible 2017 (or a massive downswing in 2017). I'm still nowhere near good enough to make even a part time income yet from poker but I'm working on it. You've got to assess your interest and if you have a love for the game too.

You will lose early on. Consider it payment for the practice and education.

It can be, if you play freerolls and you don't deposit big sums of money. You make money on freerolls and then you play with that money. It works for me and I have profit from poker.

I've always been of the idea that poker is just an extra, something that allows you to give yourself luxuries, and especially to entertain.

It is cost-effective depending on the amount of time and work you have to devote.

For some poker is profitable, for someone - no.
It all depends on the skills of the game and delivered the final goal.

Poker is my hobby. Because to me it is advantageous spiritually, and not materially

You can have fun or be entertained by playing 3 4 crowded cheap tournaments or satellites at a time and maybe you get lucky and get hugh prize. Think about it

I wouldn't do that before you have the necessary expierence/skills... Cuz if you're still mostly a beginner in the game, you're not going to last in a big live MTT event like wsop or EPT (or only with a lot of luck). So better to invest a lot of time and energy first in studying the game, playing freerolls for example, then to jump right into it...

I personally lost a lot of money already by playing cash games right away and not really knowing what you are doing (I knew I had talent for this game and was succesful with playmoney but still...). First time I started playing heads up with about 50$ buy-in, which was pretty stupid. I was told I played good but until the point you play really well, you will have lost a lot of money in most cases... Better to read books first and start playing at the micro stakes for a while. I do believe if you are a good player, you can even be a pro just playing cash games at micro stakes... Because winrate will be higher there (if you are good enough) and you can really make a nice profit playing several hours a day (and multiple tables).

Wether you want to have poker as a hobby or to make it your "job", depends entirely on YOU. Ok do need some intelligence or "skills" but a poker pro recently told me about the myth of "poker talent", which he says does not exist... You just have to study the game hard and improve your game all the time until you master things, and I believe him. Hard work pays off. Only 1 way to succes, never give up!

Profitable if you approach the game intelligently and competently read articles and books to have nerves of steel)
I believe that poker is also profitable if you play live poker, and playing online is not always lucky yes and in most online poker sites operate on the principle casino

online poker is not profitable for me either.

In my first year, I came to be with 2k profit, I think I got excited about it and the game turned strong.
Today I try to fight against a great damage that I already have playing
