Recommendations for strategy articles, books, videos? Recommendations for what the best order to learn & practice concepts of the game? What is the best way to learn and become good at reading opponents hand ranges?

Professional no limit holdem and Small stake no limit holdem, by Miller, Mehta and Flynn. The theory of poker, Sklansky. Crushing the micros by Nathan Williams (Start there IMO, the others are much more advanced))

And many many more.

Best way to get good at reading players? Play. Spend hours playing then reviewing.

Seriously, there is no quick fix, no recipe. The more you do, the more you see what there is to do.

Thanks, I see what you are saying now. Yes, I realize that winrate will not be directly transferable up through the stakes. thanks for the rundown on winrates and accounting for rake. As of right now, My primary interest is a learn online>profit live strategy. At least until I am out of the U.S. I figure I will be able get to the point where I can eat up fish for profit at live casino games on weekend nights a hell of a lot quicker then grinding it out online.

Just dont forget variance. Its a killer.

I'm a good skater & have been watching alot of hockey this year (once it started).

I plan on getting a stick soon & then will be shooting pucks off a fence in my backyard for 3hrs./day for the entire summer. I'm hoping (planning on it actually) on getting drafted into the NHL next year because I am a naturally talented/gifted athlete & a very determined individual (when I put my mind to something it gets done!).

I have never played 'ice hockey' but I played a fair bit of road hockey in my youth & scored my fair share of goals! I do know how to skate though.

LOL

So I was thinking and if you do the one spin on Black and win then you can freeroll your whole poker carrier.

I dont think there is an easy in for the NHL sry Orifice.

When you get the 30day trial for HEM2, you can run a trial of Leakbuster, after you've got some hand histories, you can analyze your stats and get articles on how to improve in the areas where your stats are bad. The trial only has a very basic set of stats that it gives lesson on and whatnot, but the articles are good. (at least the one that I read was good)

I wish you the best of luck, but you have very unrealistic expectations if you think you're going to get there in three months. Your best bet would be to get a job in your field while slowly picking up poker on the side. In the future when there is [hopefully] better access to online games, then you'll have a solid hobby that brings in an income.

LOOK man, its really great that you have a dream. we all had the same dream once upon a time. its great to watch pros on tv and read books and be optimistic. BUT; truth is,that it is a very very difficult game and what you are trying to accomplish is easier said than done. most of us here have loads of experience and are not trying to burst your bubble. we are just being realistic. you must spend endless hours playing and playing in order to master the game and even then you will still need improvement. sure some of us have made money off of poker but ,i assure you, that most people are losing players. If you believe that you can be in the longterm winning player category then thats great but it really is much harder than you may be able to understand due to lack of experience. the competition is extremely tough(esp online) and there are many people trying to do exactly the same thing that you are. taking all of these facts into account, give it your best shot and dont put so much pressure on yourself. spend time to learn the game and when you feel more comfortable ,then start putting hard goals and setting targets.
thats my advice.

this ^ part of your post I'd have to strongly disagree with.
Personally I never started playing poker online with thoughts of makin' it my career or a source of income to live off of. Or to hit the uber-big score either.
People play for many different reasons. ie. I'm sure there are many others who play for similiar reasons/motivation as myself >>> I enjoy playing a bit of poker recreationally, love (like?) the game, the competition, etc.
Others play mostly for the social aspect (btw, this isn't 'me'... for the most part I don't like poker players, lol).
What I'm saying is, people play for many different reasons.

This is so true. I started playing because I love to play games. Found out its even more fun when there is money on it. However I tend to hate other gamblers. People at the casino are either cool and ready to party and play some games and have a good time or they really suck and take things way to seriously. (a old lady who could have been my grandma called me a dumb f*ck one time LOL that was like the only live tourny in a casino I have won)

Also OP if you did one spin for 4k win and then did another for 2k and win then you could just do one spin for 2k every week and a half. This would give you more chances at a deeper run but you really want to hit the first spin(maybe you should go with red after all).....

Given that OP hasn't posted in 9 days, and nowhere but here, he is either out attempting to prove us all wrong, or has given up.

Been playing $1-$2 live at Foxwoods and doing Uni stuff. Learning a lot catching and fixing mistakes. It's all just exploitable value play right now. Stacking drunk maniacs and shit. Averaging 4-7 players in on limped pots, 3-5 on raised pots. Not learning as quickly as I want, but building bankroll.

Advice for getting max value out of these types of games? And resources read to crush them

1) I would relate it to weight lifting. After years of ineffective, on/off lifting I recently got serious about it, studied and implemented and transformed my scrawny ass by gaining 20 lbs of muscle in about two months and reducing bodyfat %

I can't help you with your poker. I'm as much of a newbie as you. But I wish you luck and I like your ambition.

But I just wanted to pick you up on this point.

I'm an amateur bodybuilder, and there's no chance you gained 20lbs of muscle in 2 months, especially if you also lost body fat.

Even if you were takign steroids, you'd struggle to put 20lbs of muscle on in 6 months, let alone 2.

Anyway, good luck with the poker. Let us know how you get on!

I would suggest depositing on either ACR or a Merge skin.
Revolution Network has the slowest payouts ATM.. So you might be waiting longer than three months to attain anything you've won/lost during your goal.

It would also be wise to invest in a HUD.
PLEASE get a HUD!! And post your graphs during your goal to this thread!
It's going to be so good!

Its possible, I went pretty extreme to do it. 6'1'' 165 lb somewhat muscular build to begin with, to 185 w/less fat in 2 months. Since then I've been maintaining. There's more that goes into it than I have time to post here, but it involved massive calorie intake when I didn't want to eat, whey, creatine, glutamine, casein, multi's at specific times & intervals. Intense, well designed workouts (*but only four one hour lifting sessions a week), minimal optimal cardio, and eradicating all unhealthy habits.

I would suggest depositing on either ACR or a Merge skin.

I know how to do it. It's just not possible to add 20lbs in 2 months. Maybe if you used to have the muscle you'd get it back from muscle memory in that time, but starting fresh? Doesn't happen.

Anyway, this is off topic. Good luck again

+1 even with creatine and some juice itd take longer, most people would have to bulk and cut anyway to get size and lower body fat %

Odd thing here, in the OP you suggest you are (relatively) new to poker, but the concepts you have brought up here are not those of a noob. Makes me think ringer!

I don't think you can advance by using a menu. You might find that your planning does not fit with your results. Every table is different and every player is different. There is no substitute for experience.
