there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of - you need to correctly assess your strengths and play according to your bankroll and everything will be fine

I used to when I would play outside of my means.

Stick to a strict bankroll management and this will help to relieve some of that stress.

I was extremely nervous and scared while playing high buy-in touraments. I still have it but not that badly. I think it's the lack of experience. When you start to play poker regularly, the fear will fade away and you'll start feel more confident.

When I was about 16 I was at a party with my older brother and I watched a guy sign his paycheck and through it in the pot. I thought I would never play that game. About 35 years I played my first Holdum game and have been playing ever since

tell us more about it how did you overcome your fear?
I think it's no secret that most of the participants in this forum are here to participate in Cards Chat freerolls. This is a little like a game for money. Try to play in a tournament with a decent buyin to really feel the fear of playing every hand. Good luck

I feel as if it is not a fear of playing for real money, it is a matter of people playing outside of what they can afford and being fearful of being put in a financial situation if they lose. For most people who play, poker is a form of entertainment. I mean yes, you do try to win money, but you are paying for the thrill and the entertainment that comes with sitting at the table. Many people who play scared are most likely playing with money that they can't afford to lose, which ironically, increases your chances of losing because you will not play marginal hands that you typically should play.

If you are fearful of losing your money, I recommend not playing until you are not afraid of losing that money, because it is a big part of the game.

I don't play for real big money. My deposit limits don't allow me to risk a lot in a game.

I have no way to play real money poker with fear, otherwise I will no longer call myself a poker player or bettor of any sport, if you play with fear you will surely lose very easily.

Cool title of this thread!

Yes, I am scared of doing so EVERY day! It is a lack of confidence, which I hopefully will overcome. It does have one good thing in it: it makes me more cautious.

It seems to me that it is much easier to play for money if you convince yourself that you have already spent it. the worst thing about poker is playing more to win back

I have never been afraid to play poker for money, if you play with fear you will lose very easily and you are not brave enough to play in tournaments for more money :rolleyes::rolleyes:

You just have to accept the fact that mistakes in decisions happen, it's normal and you don't have to be afraid of them. Even if you play without significant mistakes, there are still negative sessions, it's part of the game. You can remind yourself of this (reread or recite it) before the session. And I recommend the book "Mind Games" by Jered Tandler.

I had a background with sports betting before getting to poker but it took me almost three years to move from play money to real money. I took my time for sure having recognised the respect it needs.

Fear is created from a skeleton in your own closet. Once u face this skeleton and deal with the matter, fear never returns.

Made me think of something I heard from a cartoon: 'In a perfect world, I am the monster under the bed!'.

I have a real fear of playing cash games for real money. I play well, but always play one hand too many.

I stick to tournaments, where one, or two bad plays probably won't do me in.

As long as it is on the budget there is no need to be afraid of playing real money, if you lose live with it and that's it, and don't throw all your hopes and dreams on poker, try to be realistic sometimes

Clearly one is afraid of losing real money, but if one does not take risks, one does not win, poker is a betting game where you will always be risking money in each hand that touches you, if your income is very little and you want to invest it in poker, do not I recommend I would say that 10% to 20% of your monthly income you can risk playing them, until you have a good bankroll you will not worry about risking free money.

If you have bankroll behind you shouldnt be scared..

If you put 80% of your bankroll in a tournament of course you will be scared.
