Maybe that is mostly a thing of the past though. Today almost nobody chat on online poker sites, and some sites like ACR have completely removed the chat function. So I find it pretty unlikely, that anyone - male or female - would be turned off from online poker because of toxic chat in 2023. Even during the past 5 years it has declined a lot. But of course there are still exceptions, and the lower stakes, you play, the more likely you are to run into someone, who dont understand, that the chat is not for insulting other players. And just to make it clear, when it comes to live tournaments, I totally think, it makes sense to have events for women only :)
I've never once been insulted at a live tournament, but once online I had another player refer to me with a very vulgar word. I'm really surprised that Debi had a problem at a live game because most men have at least a little Sir Galahad in them. I can't picture them letting an insult to a woman go unchallenged. I guess if they were all lowlifes it would be different.

The poll is not about being in favor of women only games but rather opinion on it being fair to men. Pls be clear on that.
Correct comment, I wrongly used short hand text to highlight current poll stats. The poll/topic of discussion is asking do you think it is fair on men to have woman only games not specifically are you in favour of woman only games.

There is a big difference between in favour of and if it is fair to men, you are very right. The two views can get intermingled and thank you for pointing this out.
Hi Yes you are correct, I used short hand text wrongly to quote up to date poll stats. The poll/discussion is clearly asking do you feel it is fair on men to have woman only games, not are you in favour of woman only games. Apologies for my rushed, under thought out last post.

It may also be interesting to see how a separate are men only games fair on woman type poll or discussion thread may me perceived, just a thought but for now this thread and poll are asking specifically for individual opinions and votes on wither or not the community feels it is fair on men to have woman only games.

I would not already bother with that bud. With the result of this thread that women only tourney is fair to men, then a men only tourney is certainly likewise fair to women. What is good for the gander is good for the goose. LOL

I understood your question I think, although I did babble a bit on my take of it all. <3 I love that we can all chat here kindly about it :) Open discussions are the best, I love seeing everyone's view on this as well. Even if they differ from my own perspective.
I think you made an interesting thread. :)

Thank you Billiboo, I agree it is important that everyone can express their opinions freely and great to hear different perspectives. Well done for being brave enough to be honest about your opinion when it differs from the majority. I am glad that the community can embrace everyone and allow for freedom in speech, that's what its all about. :)

I like your thought process however maybe still worth asking the question as some of the new perspectives I have heard put forward hear is that woman are a minority with regards to percentages of players via men and by allowing woman only games this helps to potentially bring more woman to the game. This argument would not be valid in a men's only game so the poll may be significantly different :sneaky:. Although just a thought, I am not aware of any men only games which is why I started this thread to try to understand/explore if the common consensus is that woman only is fair or not for men, and importantly why. :)

Feminist's are always wanting "Equality" between the sexes, yet when it comes to somethings they want more than an equal split, Women only events are unfair to Men, sure I would allow Women only sporting events like Boxing, Football and Rugby etc, because lets be honest Men are usually faster and stronger and could run rings around Women.
But when it comes to Poker, it is the intellect and brain power that matters not your physical strength, So having Women only poker games only divides the Sexes even more.
I have always advocated Women's rights in the workplace with equal rights for both, but when it comes to events where strength and speed has no place, Why does there have to be a division?
As far as I can see, Women want equal rights, as long as they are more equal than Men!

How many live tournaments have you played in? This is a huge and well known issue for women in live tournaments. It is not about me having a single problem - there have been too many to count. Not just for me - but me witnessing other women being disparaged and treated poorly by men at the tables. This is a continual topic of conversation.

You either didn't read the thread - or you choose to ignore the reasons for women's events. It has nothing at all to do with skill.

Morning! I cannot stop thinking about what you said about rudeness during live games.
I am seriously wondering how much worse it is at a casino and why there is no one to monitor or watch. It seems to me that it is on the casino to create a safe place for women to play. Maybe that is where a root of the problem is? That and staff just sitting there observing awful behaviour and not putting a stop to it?
I was a bartender for many years and you work at a good place when this is not tolerated. I have insane stories of rudeness but always handled it.
I am picturing casinos in a very dark light.....

Personally have no issues with women-only events whatsoever and do not think they are unfair to men purely because of the disparity.

Anyone who does likely needs a broader view/understanding of the current state of the poker world…

A lot of the casinos I play in are very good if it goes too far. However my single worst experience was when a guy (much younger than me) kept putting his hand on my leg. I repeatedly told him to stop but he wouldn't. I finally had to call the tournament director over and he talked to the guy - but let him stay in the seat next to me. He should have moved him.

I once got laughed at when I wanted to play a cash game in an Austrian casino - I played and I took a nice amount of money from them + I gave them a smile on the way out!

I know a lot of female poker players who have had bad experiences, humiliated by ugly words, as well they belong in the kitchen and not at the poker table...

Do we need only women's games, live and online? YES, for as many women as possible to get involved in poker, to feel safe in the game...to be confident in their game, and in the end, they don't care what the male population will say about it!

I find it amusing that the buy-in is much lower.

@Debi
I have a suggestion - every next year let the entire month of March ( International Women's Day, March 8 - we should take the whole month) be only female CC games! :D

That is insane Debi... <3 He definitely should have been moved....I think the casino should have booted him out and taken responsibility of the situation. Thank you for sharing this, definitely pops a light on the situation I did not know. Little grateful I play online poker only right now :)

That is crazy too...it is a weak mind and mental game that would do that sort of play! I bet you took their money mwahahahah!!! I find that being underestimated is a very nice tool to use in life, and with poker it is the best! <3 Well done :) and I hope you curbed their laughter next time.

it seems simple, but it is a very complex question, since mental capacity, intelligence, these things, are not related to gender.
I don't see much sense since there is no physical dispute within poker, where a man could take some advantage.
personally it is a question that can generate a great discussion.:unsure::unsure:

I apologize for not doing a better job with wording in my reply. I didn't mean to imply that this was about a single tournament, nor that I didn't believe you. I was merely making a statement about the quality of all the men at the table who wouldn't speak up. :(

I've played in 65 live tournaments since October of 2018 when I began, and most of 2020 was lost to Covid. Aside from the three during my recent trip to Vegas, they were all played in New England: Most at Foxwoods, a dozen or so at Manchester and Dover in New Hampshire, and a few at Mohegan Sun. All of them, except a few over the past year, were low priced at between $60-$125. They were also composed almost exclusively of players from the New England area who are pretty much what you would call "regulars".

I wasn't doubting you were telling the truth, and thought that you were talking about men being verbally rude and disparaging to you in regards to the game, and not sexually harassing you as you described in your reply to @billibooo.

That is disgusting and the casino should definitely have moved him, preferably out of the casino. I'm very sorry that you have had to put up with that sort of thing, and it is something that no business should stand for.

No apology needed!

I was talking about both actually. I am quite shocked that you have not experienced or witnessed this at all. (but glad to hear!) It is quite prevalent and as I said a common discussion among female poker players. It is the number one reason most women are afraid to venture into live poker.

We actually conducted a poll with female poker players last year (not on the forum) and this came up a lot in the poll comments.

I think this is a case of equity vs equality <3 There is a very big difference between those two words and that might be what is tripping us all up.

So with equality in mind, I still hold my ground on my first post which was based off of my online perspective BUT with equity in mind you all have very good points with live games. Thank you for enlightening me on the issues and not taking my questions as negative. <3 It was simple a question of equality that sparked a very good debate.

We also have jobs as reasonably intelligent humans to take a stand against seeing these actions over doing nothing. We all have struggles with our gender roles but I do not want them to divide us. <3 Look out for the person sitting next to you. please. There are more nice people around than mean ones. We just have to stop being silent <3 Casinos seem to have more work to do too on this matter.

Thank you very much for taking the time to discuss this with me people <3 I hope you all have a beautiful day <3

Thinking on it, I may have. I always keep as much distance as possible between myself and the players next to me at the table. On at least two occasions I can remember feeling a knee pushing against my leg, and not immediately pulling back as I would do if I pushed into someone else's leg. So I moved a little the other way, and that was the end of it. Who knows, just some guy spreading out or maybe it was intentional.

The reason why I really hadn't heard much about this sort of thing is because, aside from CardsChat, I'm really not involved in any away from the table interactions with the poker community. Unlike when I was shooting competitively where we would talk and get to know each other in between rounds/stations, I haven't had the opportunity to talk about things like this in regards to poker. I did however hear a few stories about some instructors in the shooting world. :)

I think its fair, its like a club thing, women connect with one another differently. So I'm sure they get a kick out of it just for the competition, there are tons of tournament for us boys, most all tourneys are filled with us guys, with that being said I'm not into the new age feminism putting men down just by being straight!

People are taking very wrong definitions on feminism, it means the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.

Anything else is a jerk move <3 not feminism.
