Live MTT games are alluring to me. It's like playing a game of Survivor... who can outwit and outlast everyone else. It's very exciting when you look at it that way. At least to me. And then the prospect of winning a sizable amount of money for doing so just adds to the fun.

Yeh going on the actual show would be sick! good fun, would love the challenge.

Every aspect of the game fascinates me. The math, the strategy, the lifestyle, the excitement of a hand holding up (or sucking out as it were), the whole damn thing. I play because I love poker (and have loved poker for a very long time, only recently did it occur to me that I could learn strategy and actually make it profitable for me), and because it seems like the absolute perfect career path for me. No boss, no hours, no office. I can live wherever the hell I want, go wherever the hell I want, and do whatever the hell I want. Plus it strongly appeals to the math nerd in me.

I think he deliberately wants to sound like a sociopath because he thinks it's cool or whatever. Real sociopaths don't make it that obvious usually.

In fact, he actually contradicted himself. Misanthropy requires an expectation to go unreached -- it's a broken idealism. Ergo, no actual sociopath is misanthropic.

I grew up playing games ... all different kinds
Card games most any kind, board games, backgammon and it's variants.
The online poker boom just makes it a lot easier to find a game.
And when I can keep my head where the sun shines, I can pick up a few bucks,

Its my place of Zen.

When I'm at the table, I don't think of anything. Not my work, not my wife, not my responsibilities, nor my bills. Just me, the cards, and a bunch of people I try to be friendly to with the same time at war with.

Oh yea, and the feeling of your heart in your throat on that first hand you decide to play or bluff. Love it.
This is what its like for me at the table also. I got started because my friend has been playing for years , and he has won a lot playing, and started teaching me a few months back.

I play for the fun factor mainly :) If I cash then its a bonus :)

I have always loved playing cards for money even as a kid. I learnt how to play poker by watching it on the poker channel on sky and then I bought a dvd for dummies :)

Even though my whole family love to play cards for money no-one wants to play poker with me :(

Unfortunly, here at portugal, we are living a big crisis, and the lack of jobs make unemployement to grow.
Me, as a 41 years old "boy", it is hard to find any new job (as my old job closed three years ago), so i started to look for any other kind of oportunities, trying to make my survival in any way.
This hard situation got worse after my wife get without job also, and with a 3 years old kid, we NEED to find any kind of income.
So i tried to find any income at the web, as there aren't any jobs at the moment for people that is older than 18/20 years....
Poker seem to me to be a nice way to try to get some money so i started to play, first for fun, and lately more serious....

As you also know, this is not as easy as it seem at tv, so i am not getting my survival from poker.... Nevertheless, we must try because there is not any other real way to try to get some food at the table, so i am trying, and if this do not change i think i will keep trying for some more time....
But, without having some cash at our account, in order to play real money tournments it is a bit hard to get survival from poker... It is not playing some freerolls and cashing out as soon as got some money in it (i can not afforth to let it grow, because i need money to my dailly expenses), and there is not any philanthropist person that look to me and think "i will help this family with some cash at its PS/FTP account", so i think that play poker to me, will end at a near future.... As to my future, well, i really just don't know how it will be.....

I play poker because it is one of the most interesting games I have encountered, with numerous factors which must be taken into consideration before making a decision. This is why it's so interesting.

I first started playing home games after work on weekends with friends that I worked with ,when I was a teenager & in my early 20's.We didn't play for much everyone would throw in $25 bucks or so.My buddy Randy was always the the Shark to beat & if any of us other players could knock him out the game would go much easier. It was the thrill, excitement, fun, competition, cashing out & love of the game that got me so interested. There wasn't no internet then and poker we did play was mostly 7 card stud & 5 card draw that we played. Now instead of home games I play mostly on the internet and occasionally @ my local casino.Live play tournaments @ a casino definitely is heart pounding inside. That excitement is what keeps me coming back to play more.

It's easier and cheaper to play at home, versus a local casino, which is quite a distance away, and doesn't offer the same mix of games and stakes that online offers.
