In my case, however, it's a kind of addiction. Fortunately, not threatening and under full control. In addition, it brings regular profit. I smoked for many years and I managed to quit smoking. I think poker would be much more difficult.

I think gambling is still addictive, especially if initially it turned out to win big money, a person gets used and wants more, but then everything goes sadly.......

Hi all!

Gambling enters into the addictions that we all know as obvious but there are many more addictions than we are aware of, food, screens (tv, pc, mobile) adrenaline, fear. We are practically addicted to the system we live in which is completely unnatural.

I wish you to be able to maintain balance, get the positive out of poker, use it to your advantage, something that helps is having natural habits as much as possible, there are no excuses for being in the middle of the city. :)

I think that the real Question should be are you addicted to Gambling. because if you are then that is your Weakness so really they are the same thing.
Am I addicted to Gambling Most definitely NOT!
Am I addicted to Poker YES! I have to admit I am.
What the difference is that in Gambling you have to Invest your own money to try and win more money, which I rarely do. Sure I have had Days out at the Racecourse Gambling on the horses. But I manage the amount of money I am willing to lose. I have 2 lots of money on me, one for expenses, meals and drinks etc. and a 2nd bank-roll for the horses I am going to wager on.
The 2 never meet, and If at the end of the day I have lost my 2nd bankroll then I have achieved what I intended and that was having a fun day out at the races. I consider that money well spent. If I return with any money in my stake pocket then that in itself is a bonus, and of course if I have more money than I started the day with I have had a brilliant day out.
Poker for me though is not Gambling, If I play on-line I am playing with money I have already won from Free-rolls and people who I have played against in SnGs. If I have never deposited any cash, how can it be considered gambling when my money is safe at home or in the bank.
I have on occasion visited Casino's and bought into Tournaments, But the same rule applies to a Casino as it does with the Horses, I have 2 pocket's of cash and one is for the poker game the other for expenses, the 2 never mix and I consider the buy-in, the price the I pay for a days entertainment. Just as I would pay to enter a Cinema or a Show at my local Theatre. You have to keep it FUN!

When the fun Stops, STOP!

Gambling is a addiction, very hard to quit. Always saying to yourself, oh I can win this time. Once you lose again, you say to yourself I can win this time. That's what one of my , friends use to say to me at racetracks. He would say it at casinos, as well. At bingo halls he would say it. I figured he had a problem, so he went and got help, before he was going to lose everything. Now he is so disciplined, in everything he plays. He is doing good ,ever since he got help in , 2018. Happy for him.

Addiction-consequent disease

Most of the time drug addiction develops people who already have somekind of psychologigal deficiency, mental healt problem, lack of social contact or skills etc.

I think you can look gambling addictions as well mainly consequent disease. Here in finland people who have problems with their playing is indentifiable by that they have other problems also. And there study made about this also.

I learned to play cards before I learned to read. If this is a disease, then I have been sick with it all my life.

IF you refer to poker i don't think it is gambling, there is a bit of luck involved, most part. But i think you can have an edge if you play!

If it

If it is only a game a free time thing that's okay. But if you can not stop and lose and lose money has to ask help. It is a mental illness addiction.

gambling itself is neither an addiction or a weakness. of course some people may end up being addicted to gambling however you can also get addicted to things that seems ¨harmless¨ like eating or playing video games. the most importnt thing is to control yourself and if you cant, then avoid gambling is the best decision you can make.

Weakness or an addiction?

Hello. For me, poker is neither. It is a skill that strong-will people are successful at playing.

Poker, like any other strategy game, has elements of intelligence within it to maximize your odds, but at the end of the day bad beats happen all the time and it's still gambling. Never ever rationalize a problem like gambling addiction. Poker is meant for hobby and occasional fun, and should never ever put strain on your financial situation. Every hand you play should be considered dead money. Its only an addiction or a weakness if you let it become that, in which case stop immediately.
