Hi all:
I want to talk about something that is important and that most do not take it into account. We have to be aware that poker involves many variables but that we are people. That is what we all have in common. I find similarities in online poker as in live poker but I also find in common that respect has been lost, either when one loses a play, it has happened that online they laugh, they insult, and live the same thing has happened . I wanted to know if in some way you can control this?

There is a saying in my country, it is roughly translated as: "one who loses, has the right to be mad". And it really is so. Someone lost, while playing the game where it is imperative to win and that just hurts.
I play chess a lot, and when I lose a game I don't get pissed or excited, but when I lose a hand in poker, especially if I feel that I played correctly, I can get carried away and get mad.
Although I don't recall calling people names, or shouting or typing something wrong, I usually keep it to myself, which doesn't mean I don't get mad. The same goes for everyone probably, difference being that not all can discipline themselves not to talk afterwards.
Basically - don't take it to heart, as it is a part of the game unfortunately.

Well, I really do not care for this. You can always meet nice people on the tables and have some fun chat with them. I actually do not have open chat window when I play. Realy very rare. On PS you have an option to block players chat.
But, as I said, I never care for what they talking about. Usually on insult comment I just reply with :)

I am pretty sure that "I actually do not have open chat window when I play" is a lieeeeeeeeeee beeeeeeeee :D

Hello friend, and respect depends on each one, I win when I lose or not disrespect anyone, like you said variables are and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I have noticed that several people insulted if they lose and others scoff when they win but somewhere is part of the game. For example, many scoff to go into Tilt, use it as a strategy, how bad strategy but ultimately, for me this wrong. But there are also many friendly people and this should be noted. Luckily with people who I have played very few insulting. greetings friend

I think that you should start from yourself. I do not react to insults in the chat, and generally very little active even rarely react to praise. The main time I have chat disconnected. Thinking my point isn't quite right.

Not sure what sites and what times of day you’re all referring to.

I rarely see anyone at any table I’m on, Stars, Party, 888 who ever chats.

Not that I mind the silence. I’ve been around a long time. Seen plenty of chatterboxes and insult slinging. I’m not online to chatter anyways. Save the talk for home games or the casino. Run your mouth at a casino and see what happens

I was not talking about CC games. In CC games ugly behavior, insulting, are not allowed. With this people is easy to handle. And, people at CC are nice friendly people.

I was talking about other games.

Not allowed but still happening! I had people calling me out and saying stuff about my play during my hands that they weren't even part of. I could bet my life here and now that my opponent made the decision based on what 3rd party was saying (and this even happened in the league). Similar things happened during the KO event where a worse hand won and people started saying all kinds of stuff. Luckily these situations didn't involve me, but it is still ugly to see.
Just because CC community is friendlier and there are rules, doesn't mean that players are immune to bad behavior.

As oppose to that, I can honestly say that I am seeing far less talk in all the cash games and tournaments outside the CC events and freerolls online. That being said, you might want to reconsider when to close the chat window :)

You always can make screenshoot and report them. And , my opinion, you should do that.
I am really always very mad when I see people insult others, or make comments when someone is in hand, at CC games.

Some people really like to insult other players when they are on tilt and when hiding behind their monitor. Other do it intentionally to get and edge in the game. Anyway you can always turn off the chat or report somebody if he is too harsh. I personally do not care and let them write whatever they decide.

I don’t ever play with my chat visible, I am usually in my stats tab. But I have looked at chat from time-to-time, and do know what you are talking about. I started gaming in college and trash talking became an everyday thing while doing that. For a lot of people, this is the case. It also doesn’t help anything when you have Hellmuth and Matusow on TV deriding other players’ play every time they lose. People think that talking smack gets them noticed, and sometimes they do it to knock other players off their game.

My advice would be headphones for live poker and get away from the chat tab on your online clients.

Yah this ^ is totally unacceptable. Typically done by players who are pretty much clueless about poker.
Report that sh1t every time! (please)

chat open at all times

I think paying attention to the table talk can add to your information and be an important tool .You may get a sense of your opponents mental state , how he/she thinks certain cards should be properly played, etc . Granted , most of the postings will be useless and plenty of it will be unpleasant , but that's part of the online style . If you are likely to be upset by what someone says to you then keep the chat turned off . Bur it would be better to get control of your own emotions .

Yes, that's the problem. Lack of respect. And it's not about poker but about breeding, education and modern society. Also people don't follow English chat only rule often.

10+ years ago, when playing online poker, the chat was actually good! It was fun meeting other players from around the world & having conversations with them. Lots of laughs too.

It sure went into the sh1tter though :(

So I am just playing a cash game at PS, and there is this player who trash talks about russians.. For example, whenever someone wins a hand vs a russian player (5 of them at the table) he makes comments like:
-wow you crushed a russian, great
-sick spot, i love when i destroy a russian
-LOL you crushed 3 russians in a row - mwa

Would you spend/waste 5 mins into reporting him or not, and if you did, what would you expect PS to do about it?

Now the chat is mainly insults at the end of the game, yes insults. This is especially noticeable between players from the same country.

The internet trolls are everywhere and they show up at the poker tables as well. Unfortunately there are people who seem to more interested in being an idiot in chat then actually playing poker, or do not understand situational concepts in poker.

If I have an issue with a person I usually just turn chat off.
