I believe that poker is a game that involves strategy and to be more effective in our decisions to have a better outcome in the long term. But as every game will always exist a quota of chance and luck. It is a process that involves Strategy, decision and luck. But it is not profitable to handle a game to luck or at random, handle a method, a strategy that involves good results is a long-term that the fate play on our side.

To me poker is a game. Obviously it is a form of gambling. However I say its more of a game because of the skill level and thinking levels, and pshychology involved in the game. I mean the possibilities are literally endless and that's the best part of the game!!

Its not chess, and its not roulette.. its in that middle ground. a person with a solid grasp on the math side, the psych side, and the game theory end, that can roll with the punches and bankroll fluctuations should be able to out grind the average player.

that said, the last hand i played at a live 2/5 game, i got all my money in preflop with K K, vs A K suited. and the A K drew out on me, as its supposed to 1 out of 3 times. 2/3 time the kings hold and i double up. theres the randomness, the gamble if u will..

ive also hit runner runner on someone with trips when i was basically dead.. so the luck runs for everyone sometimes.

I think poker is a game, yet it is possible to gamble within the game.

It's a game, but sometime you must gamble.Sometimes you need luck to win this game,so you need gamble for that. But there are players, who play this game only on luck.

It is hard to say. For someone is just gambling, for someone is just game.Money is a big part of the poker and money is closely related with gambling. If you play for fun and if you post some limits with money poker is a game. But if you constantly lose money and looking for culpruit in the game you probably say poker is gambling. For me poker is a beautiful game. When you play rationally poker is a game, and this can only be.

Consider casino games versus poker games. When someone on the casino floor wins big, the house takes their picture with their winnings and posts it so everyone can see what a great decision they made to play there. In fact, anyone that plays the casino games has made a poor decision because the house has the edge in every game offered. The casino lays odds and the players take them. Same thing applies to sports books.

In poker, you take on the roll of the casino. Your job is to lay odds that the weaker players take. Odds that will not be in the weaker player's favor if you have learned proper bet sizing. You also have to be able to spot a bluff and be able to determine how often that's happening so you can assign odds to the possibility of a bluff. If you do your job and keep the odds in your favor, you will have an edge.

You're gonna win some, you're gonna lose some but in the long run, you will win overall if you play with the odds in your favor. If you're not winning, clean your game up. And no matter what, don't tell the fish what they did wrong, congratulate them with a smile on your face and move on to the next hand. Rec fish don't mind losing to the nice guy, be the nice guy and get your money back.

Short answer, it's not gambling if you can't lose in the long run.

I think if the game is on the money - gambling. Read poker just gambling incorrectly. Poker can be played for chips is a sports poker. This poker needs to be developed. In this game develops thinking, strategy, patience, and more.

I think, that you must have so many skills,so you can. Of course, it`s very important, but , in my view, luck means more

In my opinion, this game is a combination of more than just luck and skill.
It can be reviewed from diffеrent angles, from a different player. Thats why here are alot of opinions, which dont concur and also being identical by theirself.
So at all, Im still thinking that there are alot more than luck and skill for being successfull poker player. Probably most of you will be agreed there are more factors under the word Poker.

dipstick2, I disagree, skill, as Joe777, in the long term will be ROI+. Variance influence all players and downsing dosen't means unlucky, otherwise is the benefit of weak players continue to play as they play.

The way I look at this subject is that the things we have no control over is luck. What two cards we are dealt is luck. The 5 cards that come to the board is luck. From there it's all skill. It takes a long time and a lot of serious work to become a real skilled player. But anyone can have a great skilled game at any level. I think sometimes when talking about the answers to this question, some think about skill as it applies to pros that play high stakes. Anybody can be a pro at the level they play in. I used to know 2 players that always played at 5nl and they always came out a winner. And I asked one why didn't he move up since he had a good game, He said shit I can win more money at that level than he ever had at 10nl or 25nl. He is a pro at his level. So when a player uses the skill he has to win way more than he loses at his level, he can be considered a pro. For me, that is what I'm focused on. I want to be a pro at my level and I'm going to work toward the goal. Matter of fact, I just reached my goal of building my BR to a point where I'm ready to move up to 25nl and I'm all ready playing as high as $10 buy ins for MTTs. But the move sure won't be today, because I so tired i may fall asleep at the wheel that guides this thing.
