Hi,
For me it is a sport, especially the tournament part of it.
Due to the competition it represents, it can only considered as a sport.

for me, an intellectual sport is chess, poker has nothing to do with sports, and even more so with intelligence, any fourth grader can count to five, and every five-year-old child can distinguish suits, if it seems to you that sitting at the computer and playing tournaments for several hours you are doing "sports", I must disappoint you,you are spoiling your health more, both physical and mental

in my country they are preparing amendments that would prohibit gambling, including through the Internet, despite the fact that I have been playing poker for many years, if they are accepted, I will only be in favor, because everyone who plays, if he turns back,he will understand that he gave more money and health to poker than he received

I mean chess is a sport aswell so by all means poker is also a sport, since you need to use your brain a lot in poker and chess is kinda the same as poker where you need to use your brain and be a few steps ahead of your opponent some goes for chess where you need to think a few steps ahead inorder to make the right move.

I don't think so, the intellectual leads me more towards culture and not to the game, poker is many things but I don't know if it is intellectual

Hi.
In general, I think that poker is not a sport. But certainly poker is an intellectual game of chance.

It's surely a mental game, just like chess, and u can develop a lot of life changing behaviors by studying complex concepts of poker.

For me, poker is an intellectual sport. The goal of sports competitions is to find out which of the rivals has the best skills in the same conditions. Poker, like other sports, is a test of a person's qualities. And if in speed skating participants compete who is faster and quicker, in poker - who is more attentive and able to think clearly. There and there is the same goal, the same spirit of competition. This is one of the main reasons why poker can be called a sport.

Poker is governed by clear rules that have been formed over the years of development of the game. The game is based on strategy and tactics, which corresponds to the second important principle of any sport. Poker players develop their skills and it directly affects the result of participation in competitions. As a sport, poker is closest to chess, so the success of professional chess players at the poker table is not surprising. Thanks to this, poker became one of the sports that participated in the World Mind Sports Games, held in London in 2012, simultaneously with the Olympics.

Poker is definitely a mental sport for me.
A mental chess game between me and my opponents, as if I were playing simultaneously on a 9-person table with 8 other players, where the goal is for each player's chips to reach me, i.e. checkmate. A small but not negligible difference to chess in poker is that there is a luck factor here, but this is also the beauty of poker, because it is so attractive to everyone that even a beginner can beat even the world champion (in chess, say this unimaginable), and if you make a bad decision during the hand, the "river" can still give you a win.
I love Poker! 🤗

Absolutely, that's how most of us view it.Otherwise, fewer people would participate in this lovely game.
If you play for the short term, luck may play a part. But in order to succeed over the long haul, professional poker players rely on their mathematical abilities. This is due to the fact that in poker, your opponents are other players, not the house. To guarantee they can maximize the profit margin from the around 40 million visitors that come to Las Vegas each year. The leading casinos are known for hiring math grads. :geek:

people who say that poker is not a sport because it doesnt require physical activity . i kind of agree but at the same time i dont . because when you play poker adrenaline kicks in , and when you use your brain the whole time you get physical fatigue , when you play for hours you get really exhausted and also thirsty and hungry etc

but yes i tend to agree that it is a game rather than a sport

Yes, and to conclude, just think a little about tilt.

It's a mind game.

And as already said, it is impossible to have poker without a bet.

Poker is an intellectual sport. At least that's what I think. Of course, we often meet lottery players at the tables, but in my opinion, successful players are players who consider poker more of an intellectual game than a game of chance.

Of course. Is there still a question about that?

I may have a question about whether poker belongs to a sport. But there is no doubt that this is an intellectual game.

Absolutely, poker is an intellectual game, a mind game like chess or many other card and board games. It is definitely not gambling. Good players who make good decisions have an advantage and will be successful in the long term whereas in gambling everyone has the same chance. Of course luck plays a part but in the long term skill is the deciding factor.

Well, of course, poker is unlikely to be included in the Olympic program in the near future), but they may well recognize it as an intellectual sport

It’s a thinking game. I don’t agree with people who call it a sport. Sport requires physical activity in my opinion. It is a form of mental activity for sure, but not really “that much” the way many people play the game.

I don’t really understand your point about “betting”? Poker without betting just isn’t poker anymore.
Totally agree with you.
