I am an everyday user of marijuana...whether im high or not has absolutely no difference in my gameplay....i also am on painkillers for a bad accident i was in a few years back...i i wouldnt say i .get high though...just normal...with my meds i i play normal.. without i cant play at all...i cant even get out if bed without them nevermind think about hand ranges lol

Works both ways for me. If I am tired I get impatient and if I am in no rush it really helps me play better.....thing is I've smoked so long it probably really doesn't affect me at all

Heck no! I used to toke up and go to play live tournament poker with my brother and he was watching me from the rail. A straightforward playing girl went all in on me and I called. She had the nuts.
My brother took me outside and chewed me a new one and said if your going smoke weed stay home and smoke it but dont come and play.
After this I gave it some thought and realized he is absolutely correct.
My intuition is turned off when I am stoned. I stopped smoking on poker days and would never get stoned and play.
Xanax however is an awesome poker tool.

It's good you recognize your limitations (or your bro did) Most people should't play high/drunk,,,,i would't recommend it for everyone,it does change your way of thinking. Me.I have toooo much fun! lol

I think that many players just want to play with opponents who use something before the game, because they often make the wrong decisions because of alcohol or other substances before the game.

As a seasoned but semi-retired smoker I will share.The initial effect for a seasoned smoker is a huge increase in focus,thinking ability yes even decision making but upon smoking more some hours later it tends to have the opposite effect and turn into a heavier sedative than the initial and the same can be said for playing guitar or such things.the initial "buzz" gives ability to blend and harmonize like second nature but again takes the opposite effect when overdone.Treat your lungs well because abuse of a good thing takes a heavy toll eventually.

It seems to help when i just smoke but drinking a disaster waiting to happen. weed doesnt seem to have near the negative impact i really like adderall but only helps when im running 6+ tables if im trying to play 2 seems to have negative effect

Better to read books, and improve your game with traditional methods.

Playing under the influence of anything is not good for your game. You should take or drink nothing that may affect your thinking ability. Even bad music could screw you up. Grab a glass of water, relax, and make sound decisions.

Playing stoned, on an even playing field?

I can't do pot anymore, but I see it as a potential advantage; if your opponents are stoned, and you aren't.
If you do partake a little, and get a good buzz, enough to distract you from poker focus, it can affect negatively. If your opponents are habitual pot smokers, it may not affect them at all; might set them straight, getting to their 'maintenance high".

Playing high can make you to do some crazy bets when normally you don't do its and sometimes in poker is good to play like this so might be good to play high sometimes but I won't make a rule of it.

Each to their own but then there are alot of surgeons that use beta-blockers such as Propanolol before they take to patients with a scalpel , my doctor prescribes Beta-blockers for Anxiety and having tried Propanolol I can say with out a shadow of doubt it helps neutralize tension, anxiety, Stress and helps with focus...

If any Drug could be taken at the tables it should be nootropics, Cognitive enhancers as they are the number one drugs taken by Uni-students/College-students before most big exams and during study for increased performance... My GP told me she her self has used them for exams lol

I think Those who like a drink, a smoke, a game of poker and a believable alien conspiracy theory are regular every day people... We all love a little some thing special every now and then... doesn't quite mean we're all suffering from leprosy and should be cast out from society... though some would spit on us if they had the chance. Most people i know can keep their little pleasure from running their entire lives but then there are the few who indulge just too much which isn't great for them.... Look At Phil Hellmuth he has a terrible habit... Yes of course drinking and smoking sometimes it's something we all do or have done.But smoking or get high cause you think you can play better it's another thing.Addiction it's something we have to avoid it can take just a bit before we become addicted .
