Great board! I've been trying to find a way to fund a bankroll of some sort and this board has opened my eyes to the 500,000 play chip buy-in tourneys at FullTilt. Never knew that you could use play chips to cash and was stuck playing useless satellite freerolls :K

So thanks a bunch for this board, going to rack up FT playchips as much as I can in a week and either find a way to sell em, or buy-in to one of these tourneys. Looks like it's easy picking to be honest.

I'm up to 18,000 play chips after yesterday and today... Playing 2-3 table Sit N' Gos to make the chips. 6th in a 90 player 2,000 buy-in yesterday and picked up a 10,800 prize. Came 1st in an 18 player 2,000 buy-in SNG today and came out with 14k chips and just pulled in 4k from some sitdown table.

Things seem to be progressing on smoothly :)

I was once at 5 million play chips on FT. This was before I even considered playing for real money and I blew it all gambling at the 10k/20k :/

I was experimenting with some 1k/2k, thinking I would start the transition to the new level. I lost a couple hundred grand at first, then went on a HUGE heater. Bankroll stands at 3.4 mil.

By the way, since I began my challenge on full tilt I have played 13,025 hands total. Over the entire challenge I have been winning at 244 BB/100.

@ 5/10 I won at 755 BB/100 over 2938 hands
@ 25/50 I won at 214 BB/100 over 656 hands
@ 100/200 I won at 180 BB/100 over 2727 hands
@ 300/600 I won at 47 BB/100 over 6180 hands
@ 1k/2k I am winning at 72 BB/100 over 485 hands.

Thanks to everyone supporting me! I think I can hit 10 million in the next couple weeks :)

Goto www.pokersource.com
Pick up the free money they offer there.
No credit card needed, you'll get a $50 roll for nothing.

I tried something like this at Pokerstrategy.com. They gave me $50 and hence my poker career began.
I'm now attempting to play professionally with the 1K I've built up despite never depositing my own money.

Remove link if it aint allowed like

Are you folks going to play in the 500,000 freeroll once you amass all these chips?

I give some credit to Full Tilt for trying to help people out starting a bankroll from scratch. There are so many freerolls that if you have the desire to get started playing money games, you can.

I would if I could... but I have no way of depositing. My credit card, etc. won't work. I guess it's b/c I'm from the US. But I plan on moving on to real money anyway in a week or so.

My internet's been spotty this week so not much to report. Bankroll is 2.33 mill.

i know you can buy gift certificates from fulltilt. also a debit card sometimes works. but i like the idea of doing it from scratch i did it. and believe me you repect that $2 stack a lot more in 2nl after doing so.

OP, I know you said you have "no way" of depositing, but don't you have a friend on stars or fulltilt that can transfer you like $100 and you give him cash?

What an interesting thread! I am just starting to return to Poker after a 2 year break and thought I would have a look around to see what people to with their time these days and I have learned loads already, you can even sell play money chips! There does seem to be some disagreement over whether this sort of challenge could help you in a real money environment and my main concern would be the lack of pressure, after all, losing a whole load of play money isn't going to ruin your life. On the other hand, it all counts towards experience I suppose.

i definately think playing poker of any kind will help your game. IMO if you can win over 1 million playchips you can beat the micro's. you do however have to be able to adjust to the conditions you play under. as far as pressure you can't just go to the cashier and get another million playchips you start with 1,000 thats it. to practice good bankroll skills is the big key here IMO. i started with nothing and now have over $140 and still growing so i know it can be done. and i will say i've never been a winning ring game player before becoming one with playchips first. i also learned alot here at CC as well.

To be clear, at micro they charge a rake.Where as playchips, players can keep getting chips without investment. This is the opposite of rake.
The skill level is higher at micro and a tougher game to beat imo.

People are just dead wrong about this not helping poker skills. I will describe what skills it will help in a second.

Now, you do risk skewing your poker style terribly if you do not approach this logically, but there is a simple bottom line here.

Poker is poker. Period.

It's just that you will be up against a greater percentage of drooling zombies in playmoney than you will be at say.. 200nl. ;)

So you adjust, and play the game that wins.

There is one style that will win here, and it will win all the way up through the micros, and that is the TAG style. That said I never play a TAG style against this level of player, because it is unfun to me. I play loose/passive preflop and tight aggressive post. If the table lets you limp, then limp. Only attempt to isolate with the giant hands.

But why am I telling you this, you are already winning...

But playmoney is fine for developing many skills that remain useful. Reading flop texture, understanding and calculating pot odds, and the real money maker at playmoney is in the enormous amount of implied odds situations you will face. It's just these mountain range sized edges will go away when you advance to cash.

Then.. you adjust again.

Poker is poker.

Totally agree; it's a great way to learn poker and develop skills. I still go to the PS playmoney sit and go's; almost every night. When I started playing last year, this is where my husband directed me to go to learn the game.

Since I am still a novice at poker, I go there to 'practice'. I have also built up about 50k in playmoney and have started to try the higher limit games.

Also, another way to build up playmoney chips is to go to the PS Test site. You get double the amount of your chips when you transfer them to the regular PS site.

My poker copilot trial ran out :(

Well BR is 3 mill after registering for the 500k 40$ freeroll. It's been 30 min... and I'm CHIP LEADER. I had kings twice in a row and took stacks both times. I'm in 1st of 44, 18 pay. I've got aces, gotta go!

We're at the 2nd break now. I'm in 2nd place now. There are 19 people left, and I've been absolutely destroying the tables. I've won 12 of the last 14 pots, and I would have been a dominating chip leader if I hadn't doubled up some guy for 8k chips with AKs < QQ.

Oh well, I'm at 10,525 chips and I'm basically in the money let's see if I can take it down for the huge prize of 5 dorra!

i think a rake and a BR are 2 different things. yes you can get more playchips if you dip under $1000 but it's a long way to be able to get to millions again. as far as the skill level at micros being higher i agree. but for me anyway 2nl was whole lot easier to beat than 1k/2k playchips. tbh i'm not sure i was able to beat the 1k/2k playchip level. i find it so much easier to put people on a range of hands at the micro's(well 2nl) than playchips and the pots are for the most part 3 or less seeing a flop. not the 5 or more a in playchips.
